The next day, after finishing her morning routine, Ye Ya felt a lingering tension about facing the Lu Family. If she had a choice, she would prefer to avoid it altogether. However, marrying Lu Tianyang meant that she had to confront this reality.
Seeing the troubled expression on her face, Lu Tianyang placed a piece of water chestnut cake into her bowl. "Xiao Ya, don’t worry. This time, it’s Mom and Dad who want us to come back, so you don’t have to worry about them making things difficult for you. I’ll be right by your side."
"Yeah, I know I have to face it eventually. I’m fine." Ye Ya glanced at Chen Chen in her arms. The little one had just finished crying for quite a while, and she had finally managed to soothe her. She hoped that Chen Chen would behave well for the time being.
As they arrived back at the Lu Family home, Ye Ya stood at the entrance and took a deep breath while Lu Tianyang guided them inside.
As soon as they stepped in, Lu Old Man eagerly rushed over to see Chen Chen. Du Huiru and Lu Jianming were seeing the child seriously for the first time. Chen Chen had grown quite a bit since birth and was much more adorable now, with sparkling little eyes that were incredibly endearing.
"You men don’t know how to hold a baby; let me hold her," Du Huiru said. Despite her reservations about Ye Ya, she was very fond of Chen Chen. Her desire for grandchildren was already quite strong.
"Don’t worry, dear," Lu Tianyang whispered as he discreetly held Ye Ya's hand. He noticed that her palm felt a bit cool and tightened his grip.
Ye Ya felt somewhat reassured; as long as Grandpa and Grandma liked her, that was enough. As for herself, she didn’t mind much; she just needed to do what was expected.
Lu Jianming looked over at the two standing aside. "Stop standing there like fools and sit down."
"Dad, does this mean you approve of our marriage? I knew you wouldn’t be so heartless as to abandon your son," Lu Tianyang said as he pulled Ye Ya down onto the sofa at the other end.
Lu Jianming snorted and shot him a fierce glare. "You think if I don’t agree, you won’t get married?"
"Dad, Mom, please have some understanding for your son. Besides, isn’t this the first time I’ve brought both my wife and child home?" He had been urged to marry every day before; now he was showing remarkable efficiency.
"What are your plans for the wedding?"
"Dad, we’re thinking of scheduling it for the end of the month, but we still want to consult you and Mom."
"This wedding needs to be done properly; don’t embarrass the Lu Family again." After saying this, Lu Jianming glanced at Ye Ya. His words were double-edged, and Ye Ya understood their implication well. She didn’t care what others thought; what mattered was that Lu Tianyang believed in her.
"Ye Ya, don’t think being the Young Mistress of the Lu Family is an easy job. If you do anything to embarrass the Lu Family again in the future, I won’t let you off easily," Du Huiru warned sternly.
Ye Ya looked into his eyes, faintly sensing that she seemed to be stepping into another cage. She nodded, "I promise I won't do anything to embarrass the Lu Family again."
"Good, then sign this agreement first." Du Huiru shot a glance, and a servant immediately handed over a document.
Lu Tianyang took the agreement first and glanced at it. Each clause was directed at Ye Ya, stating that if she harmed the Lu Family's reputation in any way, she would have to unconditionally agree to sign for a divorce and leave with nothing.
"Mom, what are you doing? I willingly married Ye Ya; I can't sign this agreement." Lu Tianyang looked at the document, feeling it was unfair to Ye Ya.
Du Huiru raised an eyebrow. "Why can't you sign? If she truly loves you and genuinely cares for the Lu Family, then this agreement shouldn't be an issue. If she refuses to sign, it means she's only after the Lu Family's wealth. If that's the case, why should we recognize her as a daughter-in-law of the Lu Family?"
Ye Ya picked up the agreement and examined it amidst Lu Tianyang and Du Huiru's arguments. No wonder they were so quick to agree; they had already thought out their strategy. Indeed, she and Lu Tianyang were legally married now, making them a legitimate couple in the eyes of the law. Naturally, for the Lu Family, such an agreement could protect their interests.
"Mom, Ye Ya won't sign this agreement. Forget it; if you don't agree, then I don't care anymore. Honey, let's go." Lu Tianyang couldn't let Ye Ya sign something so completely unequal.
Ye Ya knew this was the Lu Family's bottom line. If she didn't agree today, Lu Tianyang would forever be caught in the middle.
"I can sign this agreement, but I must add one clause."
"What clause?" Lu Jianming asked.
"It must state that if one day I divorce Lu Tianyang, the child must belong to me. This is my only requirement; if you don't agree, then there's no need for me to sign." This was Ye Ya's bottom line. Don't blame her for being pessimistic; Chen Chen was her life, and for her child's sake, she had to do this.
"Honey, we won't get divorced; there's no need for you to worry about this agreement. The one who wants to marry you is me." Lu Tianyang never expected his parents would present such an unreasonable agreement forcing Ye Ya to sign.
Ye Ya reached out and pulled Lu Tianyang down beside her. "Darling, since you have so much confidence in our marriage, why worry about this agreement?"
"Alright, I agree to add that clause." Lu Jianming clapped his hands in approval.
The new agreement was quickly reprinted. Ye Ya signed the unequal treaty without hesitation. From start to finish, she never intended to take any of the Lu Family's wealth; thus, the agreement didn't seem like a big deal to her.
The agreement was signed, officially acknowledging Ye Ya. However, Lu Tianyang's expression remained dark. Upon returning to his room in the Lu Family estate, Ye Ya walked over and tugged at his sleeve. "Why are you still angry?"
"Have you been thinking about divorcing me for a long time? Why did you agree to sign that agreement? Do you even realize it offers you no benefits? How could you be so foolish? Where did your usual sharpness go?" Lu Tianyang was truly exasperated with her. Honestly, how could this woman be so dim-witted? Even if she refused to sign, his parents would never be able to do anything to him.
Suddenly, Ye Ya stood on her tiptoes and kissed him, her lips brushing against his as she looked at him with a mix of defiance and affection.
Lu Tianyang found himself at a loss for words. The number of times this woman had taken the initiative to kiss him could be counted on one hand.
After the kiss, Ye Ya wrapped her arms around his waist. "Why are you being so unreasonable? You come in here blaming me, but I’m doing all of this for you. Do you want me to always be caught between you and your family? Besides, how am I being foolish? With you by my side, I feel anything but foolish. You will always treat me well, right, Lu Tianyang?"
He truly felt helpless against her charm. Lu Tianyang smiled wryly and held her tighter. "Of course I will always treat you well. You're so foolish; what would I do if you weren't by my side?"
"Exactly! I don't care about anything else as long as you're good to me and Chen Chen." The reason she was determined to marry Lu Tianyang was that she found warmth in him.
"Wife, if you kiss me again, that would be even better."
Ye Ya playfully covered his eyes with her hand. "Then you can't look at me."
Just as Ye Ya was about to lean in for another kiss, Du Huiru's voice came from outside the door. "Lu Tianyang, come down and check the guest list."
"Okay, Mom, I got it." Lu Tianyang replied while noticing Ye Ya's nervous demeanor. He embraced her and kissed her again.
"Wife, don’t worry. I will protect you from now on; don’t blame Mom."
"I understand. Just go downstairs quickly." Ye Ya knew all too well that in Du Huiru's eyes, she had tarnished the image of her most proud son. How could she let things go easily? Yet for Chen Chen and Lu Tianyang, what was a little grievance worth?
One day, she would make sure that everyone in the Lu Family knew that she, Ye Ya, was worthy of Lu Tianyang.
In the afternoon, the child stayed at the Lu Family estate while Ye Ya and Lu Tianyang returned to the Ye Family home. Before they left, Du Huiru stuffed several bags of food into their car, reminding them not to forget the noodles from the Lu Family. After all, they couldn't lose face for the Lu Family while out in public.
Sitting in the car, Ye Ya still felt a bit of fear towards the Ye Family, but this time was different; she was no longer alone. Lu Tianyang was by her side.
Leaning against Lu Tianyang's shoulder, she watched as the car slowly drove away from the Lu Family home. "Lu Tianyang, if Grandpa continues to oppose us, would you mind?" In every family, when a daughter gets married, a generous dowry is expected. Yet she had almost nothing to offer. To others, she seemed unworthy of Lu Tianyang, and she even felt that standing beside him was tainting him.
"I wouldn't mind. Your grandfather isn't foolish; he probably can't wait to acknowledge you now." Lu Tianyang's words resonated with Ye Ya. Yes, for the Ye Family, having someone marry into the Lu Family would undoubtedly bring them honor. She was no longer that worthless Ye Ya from before.
But isn't it even more tragic? To the Ye Family, would she always just be a pawn in their game of interests?
"Lu Tianyang, can we keep the wedding as simple as possible?"
"Sure, I understand. Don't be afraid; I'll always be here." Lu Tianyang held her hand tightly. He knew she lacked a sense of security. With so many guests around, there were bound to be those who would mock her behind her back. All he could do was protect her to the best of his ability.
Upon returning to the Ye Family home, Ye Tao couldn't help but rush out to greet them as soon as he heard the car.
Zhao Meiqin sat nearby and saw Ye Tao's nervous demeanor. She pinched a grape hard in frustration. "It's just a worthless person who got kicked out; what's there to be so anxious about?"
"Zhao Meiqin, watch your words. Xiao Ya is now part of the Lu Family," Ye Zhen interjected. He hadn't expected Lu Tianyang to actually marry her; in terms of work capability, Ye Ya's personal talents were beyond reproach.
