Qi Fan was furious. He had kindly offered to take her to the hospital, only to be met with a slap from this woman. "Tao Momo, you... you shrew! Why did you hit me?"
Tao Momo's hand still stung as she looked at Qi Fan, whose face was flushed with anger. "Who told you to touch me?"
"You think you're so noble for not going to the doctor for that messed-up foot of yours? In a few days, Lu Tianyang's wedding is coming up. How can you be a bridesmaid like this? Honestly, with your condition, you shouldn't even go out and scare people," Qi Fan fumed. This woman was pushing his limits time and again.
"I already said it wasn't intentional! I'll go see a doctor myself; I don't need your help, Young Master," Tao Momo thought to herself, feeling that it was all his fault anyway. If it weren't for him, would she even be in this situation?
She got out of the car and limped toward the hospital. Xiao Ya's wedding was just around the corner, and she really couldn't afford to have any issues. So despite her reluctance, she had no choice but to go.
Just a few steps in, she felt herself being lifted off the ground. "Hey! What are you doing? Put me down!"
"Stop pretending to be tough, woman," Qi Fan replied irritably.
"Mind your own business! Just put me down; I don't need your help!" Tao Momo protested, hitting his shoulder with all her might. Qi Fan suddenly paused. "Keep it up, and I swear I'll throw you down."
Tao Momo believed he could actually do it and was afraid he might really let her go. Instinctively, she tightened her grip around his neck and closed her eyes.
Seeing her like this made Qi Fan's lips curve into a slight smile. "Keep talking back, and I'll drop you right here. So shut it."
Tao Momo loosened her grip on his neck. "I refuse to be quiet! If I close my mouth, am I still human? You jerk, put me down; I can walk by myself."
"Tao Momo, can't you act a little more feminine?" Qi Fan thought about throwing her down in frustration, letting her fend for herself.
"Qi Fan, can't you show some masculinity and gentlemanly conduct?" Tao Momo retorted, making it sound like he had any right to criticize her when he was just a big jerk himself.
The accusation of lacking masculinity struck deep. After pondering for a moment, Qi Fan decided he wouldn't bother with any gentlemanly behavior at all.
With Tao Momo still in his arms, the annoying woman continued to nag him. In a moment of irritation, Qi Fan leaned against a pillar outside the hall and kissed her directly.
Tao Momo was stunned, her eyes wide open, completely unprepared for the fact that this jerk actually dared to kiss her.
No matter how she struggled in his embrace, he refused to let her go.
After a long while, he finally released her. Seeing the misty look in her eyes, he suddenly panicked.
"Qi Fan, I hate you," Tao Momo said as she wrestled herself free from his arms.
Qi Fan set her down, momentarily at a loss for words. "Be careful with your feet. If you fall again, it could really be serious."
"I don't need you to worry about me. I don't want to see you," Tao Momo felt a surge of anger burning fiercely in her chest. How dare he kiss her? She was so furious that she almost wished to extinguish her own feelings. That despicable Qi Fan had actually kissed her; it was infuriating. From now on, they would be sworn enemies.
"Alright, just sit here and don't move. I'll go get you registered," Qi Fan said as he pushed her onto a nearby chair to rest before heading off to handle the paperwork.
Tao Momo felt a tumultuous wave rising in her chest. She wasn't sure if it was anger or anxiety; all she knew was that she didn't want to see this jerk hovering around her any longer.
But for the sake of being a bridesmaid, she had to endure it. If her foot was truly injured and she couldn't attend the wedding, that would be far worse.
After a while, Qi Fan returned with the registration slip. Seeing her sulking silently with a serious expression made him feel somewhat uneasy.
"Don't be angry anymore. Let's go see a doctor about your foot. If you really feel wronged, I'll let you kiss me back later."
"Ugh, how shameless can you be?" Tao Momo scoffed. There was no way she would allow such an embarrassing situation to happen again.
"Fine, it's my fault for being shameless. Can we just go now?" Qi Fan didn't want to waste any more time arguing with her. Noticing that she was reluctant to move, he simply picked her up and carried her inside.
The attending doctor adjusted his glasses as he observed them. "You two are really having quite the argument. What are you doing being so rough? Look at how you've hurt the girl."
"Doctor, we're not in a romantic relationship," Tao Momo interjected quickly upon seeing the doctor's expression, feeling like she could spit blood from frustration.
“Alright, no need to explain. Let me take a look,” the doctor said with an understanding expression. With Qi Fan standing by, showing no intention of explaining anything, Tao Momo felt that her entire reputation was being ruined by this jerk.
At the Lu Family, Ye Ya had just finished showering and was about to blow-dry her hair when her phone rang. She glanced at the screen and saw it was a call from Tao Mama. Puzzled, she wondered why Tao Mama would be calling at this hour. “Hello, Tao Mama.”
“Xiao Ya, why hasn’t Mo Mo come back yet? It’s already past eleven, and I can’t reach her phone; it’s turned off.” Tao Mama knew that her daughter was with Ye Ya tonight, but it shouldn’t be this late without any sign of her returning.
“Is she still not home, Tao Mama? Don’t worry, Qi Fan is taking her back. I’ll call Qi Fan to find out what’s going on.”
It was unusual for Tao Momo not to have returned home at this hour; Ye Ya started to worry that something might have happened to her. She quickly grabbed Lu Tianyang’s phone and dialed. The call connected immediately, and suddenly, she heard a shrill scream from Tao Momo. “Hello, Qi Fan, is Mo Mo with you? Why hasn’t she come home yet?”
“Ah, be gentle! That hurts!” Tao Momo cried out as the doctor squeezed her foot, unable to contain her scream. Meanwhile, on the other end of the line, Ye Ya was growing frantic. “Qi Fan, what have you done to Mo Mo? If you dare to mess with her, I won’t let you off easily.”
“Calm down; I’ll hand the phone to her,” Qi Fan said, listening to how Tao Momo was calling out. He didn’t want her to explain herself directly for fear that it would only make things worse.
“Make sure you clarify things with Ye Ya, or she’ll think I’ve done something terrible to you.”
Taking the phone back, Tao Momo hissed, “Hello, Xiao Ya.”
“Mo Mo, what’s going on between you and Qi Fan? Did you two…” Ye Ya asked, noticing how they had just argued and couldn’t possibly have reconciled so quickly.
“Xiao Ya, don’t jump to conclusions. I twisted my ankle and am still at the hospital. Oh, I’ll call my mom in a bit,” Tao Momo explained before shooting a glare at Qi Fan. She then called Tao Mama, telling her that she had to go back to the shop for work and wouldn’t be coming home tonight.
Hearing this made Tao Mama feel for her daughter, but then she thought of another question. “Mo Mo, don’t overwork yourself. By the way, why are you using Qi Fan’s phone to call me?”
Like a detective uncovering a crucial clue, Tao Mama hit upon the main issue.
“I just needed him to help me out. Alright, Mom, I won’t keep you any longer; you should get some rest,” she said quickly. If her mom misunderstood and thought there was something more between her and Qi Fan, it would be impossible to clear up; she knew her mother all too well.
“Okay then, I won’t pry further. Just remember, you’re not getting any younger; if there’s someone good around you, don’t let them slip away.” As they ended the call, Tao Mama added those words with a hint of meaning behind them.
Hanging up the phone, Qi Fan couldn't help but smirk, saying, "Tao Momo, I didn't expect you to keep a straight face while lying."
"Ugh, it's all because your mother has had the worst luck for eight lifetimes."
"Alright, you two lovebirds can argue at home later. Thankfully, nothing's broken. Just take it easy for the next couple of days and try not to put weight on that foot. These are topical ointments; let's go." The doctor felt his ears ringing from their bickering.
Qi Fan took the medicine and nodded. "Thank you, Doctor. Alright, fierce woman, let's get going."
"Jerk!" Tao Momo really wanted to kick him, but after the doctor had just fussed over her foot, she simply didn't have the strength.
"Enough with the tantrums; you're just making a fool of yourself." Qi Fan decided to take matters into his own hands and picked Tao Momo up, placing her into the car.
"Well, now that we're in this situation, I doubt you'll be going home anytime soon," Qi Fan said as he started the engine. He was impressed by how easily she had lied to Tao Mama about working late.
"Take me to a hotel," Tao Momo thought it over and realized that going home would be a disaster if her parents saw her like this.
Qi Fan nodded in agreement. They fell silent as the car drove for a while. Just when they passed by a hotel, he didn’t stop. "Hey, just pull over at that hotel up ahead."
"You're spending the night at my place. With your foot like that and no one to look after you—didn't you hear what the doctor said?" Qi Fan sighed lightly.
"What? No way am I going to your place! I can't risk my reputation, Qi Fan. What are you planning?"
"Relax, I'm not interested in you like that. Don't you want to attend the wedding?"
At this, Tao Momo's voice faltered. Thinking about the wedding made her realize she couldn't afford any setbacks; if her foot got worse and she couldn't walk in a few days—what would she do?
"Don't worry; my parents are out traveling. I'm not that kind of beast; at least there will be servants at home to help you."
Qi Fan cursed inwardly. He had never brought a woman home before; it was all for her sake. Being alone in a hotel—who knew if she'd even be safe?
"You dare to touch me again, and I will not let you off the hook." Remembering that kiss, Tao Momo immediately turned her head to look out the car window, not wanting to see him anymore.
Qi Fan also fell silent. It was as if they had agreed on it; neither of them spoke during the ride.
When the car arrived at the Qi Family residence, Qi Fan opened the door and helped her out. "What are you looking at? No matter how beautiful it is here, it's not your home."
"Who cares?" If she had a thread in her hand right now, she would really want to sew his mouth shut.
"Why are you holding me again? Let me down."
"If you don't want to wake everyone up, just keep your voice down," Qi Fan said lightly in her ear. Sure enough, the woman immediately quieted down.
"Qi Fan, I hate you," Tao Momo whispered softly in his ear.
Feeling her breath, Qi Fan paused for a moment before saying nonchalantly, "It's best if you hate me. That way, you won't fall in love with me. If I get tangled up with a fierce woman like you, I'd really be in trouble."
