In the bathroom, Ye Ya reflected on the moment she saw Fu Wan Jing tonight when Lu Tianyang introduced her, holding her hand and telling Fu Wan Jing that she was his wife. This indicated that Lu Tianyang had no intention of hiding her.
Her thoughts were suddenly disrupted. Ye Ya reminded herself not to be misled by appearances. After finishing her shower, she stepped out to find Lu Tianyang half-reclined on the sofa, seemingly asleep. He looked exhausted; managing the Lu Family's large company must have taken a toll on him. Ye Ya couldn't help but shake her head.
The Lu Family was not really her concern. What she needed to focus on was building Moya Fashion. As a woman, she ultimately needed to have her own career.
“Wife, are you done? I'm going to take a shower too. If you're tired, go to bed early and don’t wait for me,” Lu Tianyang said as he sat up from the sofa.
“Who’s waiting for you? How shameless,” Ye Ya rolled her eyes at him. This man really knew how to flatter himself.
Lu Tianyang chuckled mischievously but didn’t dare provoke Ye Ya further; the atmosphere had finally eased a bit. He had never experienced being so thoroughly dominated by a woman, yet it seemed he couldn’t do without her.
Ye Ya was indeed tired. Besides taking care of Chen Chen, she was busy with company matters and had to deal with tasks assigned by Du Huiru from time to time. So when Lu Tianyang came out of the shower, Ye Ya was already asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he quietly lay down on the other side of the bed, watching her from a distance.
At least it felt better than sleeping on the sofa; being in the same bed felt reminiscent of their earlier days together.
In the middle of the night, Ye Ya woke up to feed Chen Chen and was surprised to find Lu Tianyang sleeping in her bed. She felt an impulse to kick him off; how dare this jerk invade her space!
Chen Chen was hungry, staring at Ye Ya with wide eyes while Lu Tianyang slept on. “Wife, you’ve worked hard,” he murmured.
“Our daughter is mine; it’s not about hard work,” Ye Ya replied sharply.
The way he spoke made it seem like he had no stake in their daughter’s care. Lu Tianyang didn’t argue with her; in his heart, he silently thought: You can’t escape my grasp; you’re still mine.
He felt Chen Chen’s diaper—heavy and surely soaked with who knows how much pee.
So, while Lu Tianyang changed Chen Chen's diaper, she continued nursing without pause. Ye Ya rolled her eyes at the sight of Chen Chen desperately sucking away while that insufferable father changed her diaper.
“Hey, change it later; let her finish nursing first,” Ye Ya finally snapped. Was there really a father like him?
“It’s fine; I’m experienced at this; it won’t hurt,” Lu Tianyang insisted, feeling it was intolerable to let such a heavy load sit under Chen Chen's bottom.
“You’re crazy,” Ye Ya conceded defeat as she cradled the baby. Surprisingly, Lu Tianyang skillfully finished changing the diaper for her.
Chen Chen was generally a worry-free child; as long as she was fed, she wouldn’t cause any trouble. Now that she had eaten, her eyes were fixed on Lu Tianyang. Ye Ya simply handed the child over to him and walked into the bathroom to freshen up.
When she came out, she saw them both on the bed, and Ye Ya couldn’t quite describe the feeling—it was warm yet felt unreal.
Lu Tianyang was a man she could never fully understand or grasp. She wondered if there would come a day when both Fu Wan Jing and she would need him, and whether he would choose to abandon her again for Fu Wan Jing.
That feeling was akin to swallowing a fly; it felt like a knife was continuously being plunged into her chest—pull it out, and it hurt; leave it in, and it throbbed painfully.
“Wife, look, Chen Chen is asleep. Let’s let her sleep in the middle tonight; don’t disturb her,” Lu Tianyang suggested, pleased with his idea. The bed was large enough, with plenty of space.
Seeing the little one lying comfortably on the bed, Ye Ya truly didn’t want to wake her. She said nothing, simply turned over and climbed onto the bed. Lu Tianyang felt overjoyed; their precious daughter had done him a huge favor. It was true what they said—daughters were like warm little quilts.
“Behave yourself; no touching,” Ye Ya whispered, sending a warning glance his way.
“I won’t move; I’m sleeping. Wife, you should sleep too. You haven’t looked well these past couple of days,” Lu Tianyang said, concern evident in his voice.
Ye Ya thought to herself that given how much he had been stressing her out, how could she possibly look good? Just surviving in the Lu Family felt like an achievement in itself.
That night passed peacefully enough; Ye Ya and Lu Tianyang managed to coexist harmoniously—of course, that was only because Lu Tianyang didn’t provoke her.
Ye Ya wanted to conduct some market research but felt no need to mention it to Lu Tianyang. However, thinking about Du Huiru made her sigh softly. It had been difficult for her in the Ye Family, and in the Lu Family, she felt equally trapped.
“Wife, why are you sighing? What’s wrong?” Lu Tianyang asked as he tied his tie, unable to hold back his curiosity. In the past, Ye Ya would help him with this; now he dressed himself without her assistance.
“I want to check out the store, but I’m not entirely at ease with leaving the child. Besides, your mother has set so many rules,” Ye Ya thought to herself, feeling frustrated—a typical ancient-style young wife.
“Wife, if you want to go, just go. It’s fine. I’ll talk to my mom about it. From now on, you can go wherever you want; just remember to come home,” Lu Tianyang said as he looked at her with pain in his heart. “Wife, marrying me has caused you so much distress; I’m sorry.”
This jerk suddenly speaking such sentimental nonsense caught Ye Ya off guard. “Just know that! Go tell your mother then. And by the way, I’ll do what I want without you worrying about me.”
“Alright, as long as you’re happy. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you smile. If you’re unhappy here, we can move back; we can always come back on weekends to visit.” It was just like before; they could manage just fine.
"Alright, go have breakfast. I can already imagine your mother complaining that I'm up preparing it," Ye Ya thought to herself. She had come to realize that being too kind often led to being taken advantage of. With so many servants in the Lu Family, did she really need to supervise breakfast preparation personally?
Sure enough, Du Huiru was still fuming from the previous night, unable to express her anger. Upon seeing them come down, she immediately put on a stern face. "Ye Ya, have you forgotten the twelfth family rule? It's only natural for a daughter-in-law to get up and make breakfast for her in-laws."
"Mom, there are plenty of people in the house. Besides, Xiao Ya stayed up all night taking care of the baby and didn't get much sleep. Can you stop targeting her all the time?" Lu Tianyang interjected. It was more effective for him to speak up than for Ye Ya to defend herself.
"See? She’s only been married for a short time and already acting like this. What will happen in the future?" Du Huiru glared at Ye Ya, who showed no signs of remorse. If it were Wan Jing, she would never behave this way.
"Mom, she is my wife, not a servant. Taking care of the baby is hard enough as it is. If you think we need more help around here, I can hire a couple more servants."
"Enough! What’s there to argue about so early in the morning? I can see that Xiao Ya is indeed struggling with the baby; let the servants handle these chores."
Ye Ya was somewhat surprised that it was Lu Jianming who said this. He had never been fond of her, but perhaps he felt resigned now that things were settled.
As a result, Du Huiru was so furious that she lost her appetite for breakfast. Ye Ya no longer cared about their feelings; through Fu Wan Jing, she had come to terms with her situation.
It was impossible for the Lu Family to like her at this point; since that was the case, she didn’t want to continue compromising herself.
After breakfast, Du Huiru was so upset that she made plans to go shopping with someone else, preferring not to be at home with Ye Ya.
Ye Ya took her plans and realized that some details required her personal investigation to ensure everything was properly arranged. She called Guo Ma in and instructed her to keep a close eye on the child. Guo Ma had been with her for some time now, and Ye Ya felt relatively at ease with her.
"Guo Ma, I'm stepping out for a bit; could you please watch Chen Chen for me?"
"Lady, you’re too polite. Taking care of Chen Chen is my responsibility as well; feel free to go," Guo Ma replied. Besides Guo Ma, there was also a postpartum doula and a professional nutritionist taking care of Chen Chen. In the Lu Family, Ye Ya truly didn’t need to worry too much.
After organizing herself, Ye Ya headed downstairs and saw the old man practicing Tai Chi in the garden. She walked over and said, "Grandpa, I need to step out for a while; I won’t be back until later."
"Mm, go ahead," Lu Old Man replied. For Chen Chen's sake, he reluctantly accepted Ye Ya but sighed inwardly at the thought of Wan Jing. If he had his way, he would prefer Lu Tianyang to marry Wan Jing.
As Ye Ya walked out of the Lu Family gate, she felt an immense sense of relief wash over her.
When Tao Momo arrived at the store, her heart ached at the sight of Xiao Ya. "Xiao Ya, are you okay? I wanted to come see you, but you said not to. Lu Tianyang is such a bully; next time I see him, I’ll definitely give him a piece of my mind."
Seeing Tao Momo's frustrated expression, Ye Ya smiled. "Mo Mo, just relax here. Do whatever you want and forget about the Lu Family. Don’t worry, I’m doing well. I came out today to take care of some company matters."
Xiao Yu brought in a cup of tea. Noticing that they were engrossed in conversation, she quietly set down the tea and left. Ye Ya hadn't been here for quite some time; she really missed the days when they were all together.
After discussing with Tao Momo, Ye Ya decided to choose the venue first. Originally, Tao Momo was supposed to go with her, but a few regular customers arrived just before they left and specifically requested Tao Momo's professional service.
Ye Ya felt confident going alone. As she walked down the bustling street, memories flooded back to when she and Tao Momo had just started their business. At that time, they never imagined their Moya Fashion Store would succeed. Now they had opened several branches and gradually gained some recognition in the industry.
The office space couldn't be too remote; while the rent might be lower, it would also lower the prestige of their brand. Being newly established, Ye Ya was cautious. She planned to start with wholesale and expand once they had a stable customer base.
She believed that one day, both she and Tao Momo would have their own stage.
However, just as Ye Ya finished inspecting potential company locations, she unexpectedly ran into an acquaintance—Jing Hao—who was casually draping an arm around a blonde beauty.
Jing Hao still had that same taste. She wanted to pretend she didn’t recognize him, but Jing Da Gongzi wasn’t having it; he felt it would be wrong not to throw a few jabs at Ye Ya.
"Ye Ya, I didn’t expect your ambitions to be so grand that you even managed to snag my cousin," Jing Hao remarked with a hint of sarcasm.
