Lu Tianyang walked over and took her hand, unsure of what to say. He had lost control and was afraid of losing her. Ye Ya pulled her hand away, feeling that there was no basic trust left between them. "What more do you want, Lu Tianyang? Just say what you need to say."
"I'm sorry, my wife. I... I just need you to stop contacting Xiao Lin, okay?" Lu Tianyang held onto her hand tightly, stubbornly seeking a response.
"Lu Tianyang, I'm not your toy. I'm a person. All I've done is talk to Xiao Lin for a moment. Did you catch me in the act?" Ye Ya forcefully shook off his hand, her clothes already torn beyond wear. She felt as if that garment represented her heart, brutally shredded by him.
After speaking, Ye Ya opened the wardrobe and saw it filled with Fu Wan Jing's clothes. She took a deep breath; there were still many guests outside, and she couldn't hide away forever.
However, the thought of wearing Fu Wan Jing's clothes was unbearable for her; it was like sharing a man—impossible.
Lu Tianyang approached and noticed the clothes inside, momentarily stunned. "I didn't put those there."
Of course, they weren't his; Fu Wan Jing had already moved in. She didn't want to argue with him anymore—it was pointless.
Taking a deep breath, she wrapped herself in a towel and went to grab her phone from her bag. She called Tao Momo, asking her to bring over some clothes as quickly as possible.
Tao Momo, anxious at the thought of needing to bring clothes, asked, "Xiao Ya, what's going on?"
"Mo Mo, it's nothing serious. Just hurry over and come in through the back door; I'll have Guo Ma pick you up." Ye Ya hung up the phone, relieved that Guo Ma was around today.
She couldn't afford to lose face today.
"I'm sorry, my wife," Lu Tianyang said as he looked at her distressed state, suddenly feeling like a complete jerk for what he had done to her.
Ye Ya scoffed coldly. When he was forcing her, did he ever stop to think about what this meant? Was he expecting a slap followed by a sweet reward?
Not wanting to engage with him any further, Ye Ya walked into the bathroom and took a shower. Lu Tianyang stayed behind, filled with regret. He could sense that Xiao Lin's feelings for her were different from his own; in his panic, he had only succeeded in hurting her.
After finishing her shower, Ye Ya glanced at the time. Tao Momo probably wouldn’t arrive so soon, but she really didn’t want to wear Fu Wan Jing’s clothes. Just looking at them made her feel amused.
Fu Wan Jing treated this place as her home, while Ye Ya had only met Xiao Lin once, and under such circumstances, she was treated like this.
Lu Tianyang remained silent. Seeing Ye Ya’s distant demeanor, he couldn’t help but wonder if it was because her old lover had returned.
At that moment, Guo Ma knocked on the door. Hearing Guo Ma’s voice, Ye Ya quickly brought the bag inside. If she could help it, she never wanted to enter this room again. The last time the Lu Family took Chen Chen away, she saw Fu Wan Jing sleeping in this room like a hostess, and she truly didn’t want to stay here any longer.
After changing clothes, Ye Ya finally felt a sense of security. She looked at Lu Tianyang and said, “You wouldn’t want me to embarrass you again, right? I’ll head down first.” Her politeness was overwhelming; there was no trace of affection in her eyes as Lu Tianyang followed her downstairs.
Chen Chen was being held by everyone, playing happily and completely unaware that her mother had just been through a fierce battle. When Ye Ya held Chen Chen in her arms, she finally felt grounded.
The dinner was set at the Lu Family’s residence, where the servants had already prepared the meal. Looking at Chen Chen, Ye Ya used the excuse that Chen Chen was hungry to escape from the dinner.
“Sit down and eat together; just leave the child with the nanny,” they insisted. Reluctantly, Ye Ya had no choice but to sit down.
Xiao Lin noticed that she had changed clothes and that there was a bruise on her wrist—one that hadn’t been there when she went upstairs just moments ago. Did Lu Tianyang lay a hand on her?
“Xiao Ya, what happened to your hand?” Xiao Lin asked softly as he sat beside her. His words naturally caught Lu Tianyang’s attention. When he turned to see the bruise, his heart ached; however, he thought to himself that Xiao Lin had no right to care about his wife.
Ye Ya glanced at him and shook her head. “It’s nothing; I just bumped into something accidentally. Let’s eat; everyone should have more.” She looked again and realized it didn’t hurt at all. The pain in her heart caused by Lu Tianyang’s roughness and distrust overshadowed this minor injury—it didn’t even compare to the hurt inside.
After dinner, guests began to leave one after another. As Xiao Lin was about to depart, he gently patted Ye Ya on the shoulder. “Xiao Ya, I’m back. If you need any help, just let me know; there’s no need to be polite with me.”
Ye Ya felt that he was still as warm as he had been in high school. “Xiao Lin, thank you.”
Lu Tianyang, standing nearby, found his own hands to be quite bothersome. “I can take care of my wife myself, no need for Mr. Xiao to worry.”
Having spent many years in the military, Xiao Lin looked at Lu Tianyang. “I hope you can keep that promise. Don’t think that just because Xiao Ya is alone, you can bully her. I will not let anyone who harms her go unpunished.”
The two men stood on either side of Ye Ya, and the air was thick with an unspoken tension. Suddenly, Lu Tianyang pulled her waist closer. “Of course, she is not only my wife but also the mother of my child.”
A hint of indescribable sadness flickered in Xiao Lin's eyes as he glanced at Ye Ya. “Xiao Ya, I’ll be leaving now. Take care of yourself.”
“Goodbye,” Ye Ya waved, but to Lu Tianyang’s eyes, it seemed like a reluctant farewell filled with deep affection for Xiao Lin.
Ye Ya didn’t look at Lu Tianyang as she turned to walk inside and took the child from Guo Ma’s hands. “Grandpa, I’ll take Chen Chen home now.”
“Stay here for the night,” Lu Old Man said reluctantly, unable to bear the thought of Chen Chen leaving.
However, staying meant she would have to sleep in that room—the very room that felt like a nightmare when she recalled it.
No one wanted to relive a nightmare, and neither did Ye Ya.
“Grandpa, Chen Chen’s things aren’t here; she’ll recognize the bed. If you want to see her, I can bring her back later,” Lu Tianyang said, noticing Ye Ya’s troubled expression. He remembered her saying she would never sleep in that room again because Fu Wan Jing had once slept there. The thought of the wardrobe being filled with Fu Wan Jing’s clothes gave Lu Tianyang a headache; he had no idea about these matters.
With Lu Tianyang speaking up, Old Man Lu finally relented. Ye Ya let out a small sigh of relief as she hugged Chen Chen and walked out of the Lu Family's gate.
Lu Tianyang drove up to her and stopped in front of her. "Get in the car."
Ye Ya knew that this man would not let her leave alone. She longed to hold Chen Chen and simply be together in silence. If she didn’t get into his car, she feared she wouldn’t even make it out of the Lu Family's gate.
Given that, Ye Ya decided not to struggle any longer and obediently sat in the back seat, where Chen Chen was staring at her with wide eyes.
Ye Ya didn’t want to look at Lu Tianyang even once more. In his eyes, she feared she appeared as if she were having an affair. When someone doesn’t trust you, everything you say is wrong.
When they arrived at Yiju Mountain Villa, Lu Tianyang got out of the car and saw Ye Ya holding Chen Chen all the way. "Wife, let me hold the child. You must be tired."
"No need, I can manage," Ye Ya replied, unwilling to talk to him. However, Lu Tianyang's tone was grating, and in the end, the child was handed over to Guo Ma.
Ye Ya didn’t want to argue with him in front of Chen Chen. It was better to calm down; arguing wouldn’t solve anything. Their marriage had been somewhat dysfunctional from the start, and they truly needed a moment of calm.
"I’ll sleep in the guest room tonight. Let’s all take a breather."
"No way! I won’t allow it! Our bed is so big; why should you sleep in the guest room?" Lu Tianyang immediately opposed her. Couldn’t this woman understand his heart? All he wanted was a word of reassurance, a promise.
"Lu Tianyang, can you stop being so childish? Do you really want to force me like today? Do you find that entertaining? If you think this is fun, then go ahead; let’s just end it so I can have some time to cool off." With that, Ye Ya began to unbutton her shirt. After all, they were at home; she had plenty of clothes. It wasn’t like being at the Lu Family where she feared being caught off guard and pushed into a crowd without any dignity left.
Lu Tianyang pressed her hand down, stopping her from unbuttoning further. "That’s not what I meant! Today was my fault; I apologize. But please don’t be so close with Xiao Lin. I see how he looks at you; he wants to take you away from me."
"Lu Tianyang, are you even human? Fu Wan Jing has taken over your house; her clothes are all in your closet! I just ran into a high school classmate, and you suspect me of what? Am I your toy? When you like me, you hold me close; when you don’t like me, you push me down and trample on me?" The last few words came out as a shout. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying hard to remind herself to stay calm.
"To hell with calmness."
"It wasn't my decision for her to move in, and I don't know why. There’s no possibility between Fu Wan Jing and me, but you are different. I can see in your eyes that Xiao Lin means something entirely different to you. That’s a fundamental difference." Lu Tianyang absolutely did not mean it that way. He lost control today and regretted it afterward, but thinking of Xiao Lin ignited his anger once more. He had never lost control like this over a woman before.
Ye Ya let out a cold laugh. "You need to stop pushing me, Lu Tianyang. We both need to take a step back and reassess whether this marriage is worth continuing. We don’t even have the most basic trust anymore."
"You want a divorce? Dream on! Even if you die, you’re still my Lu Tianyang. Don’t think just because your old lover is back that I’ll agree to a divorce. Not a chance." Hearing Ye Ya mention divorce completely shattered Lu Tianyang's composure.
"Lu Tianyang, you bastard! Are you even human?" With that, Ye Ya kicked him hard. Lu Tianyang stood there without retaliating, taking the hit. He knew he was in the wrong today; letting her vent was only fair, but he would not allow her to entertain thoughts of divorce.
After a flurry of punches and kicks from Ye Ya, she noticed that Lu Tianyang remained motionless, letting her hit him. "Are you crazy? Why aren’t you fighting back?"
"I let you bully me today, so I’ll let you take your frustrations out on me. But once you're done, don’t even think about divorce. I won’t allow it; you’re still mine no matter what. If you're upset, go ahead and hit me a few more times; I can take it."
Damn it, Ye Ya was furious and threw another punch at him.
