Seeing Ye Ya, Ye Qi couldn't help but start comparing. She felt a mix of anger and resentment as Ye Ya had inexplicably married the richest man in Ning Cheng.
"What are you doing here, just to watch me make a fool of myself?" Ye Qi thought of Ye Ya as her nemesis, and her anger surged upon seeing her.
Listening to their conversation, Ye Ya smirked. "Oh, so Xiao Ma came here just to settle a score over a piece of clothing?" Her words dripped with sarcasm. Zhao Meiqin slapped her palm. "What nonsense! Do you think we can't afford a mere piece of clothing?"
"I was just saying, looking at this lady's outfit, how could she possibly not afford a dress?" Tao Momo chuckled inwardly, observing Zhao Meiqin's expression—clearly furious yet trying not to show it. It amused her greatly.
"Mom, let's go. I don't want to see her anymore; just being here makes this store feel low-class," Ye Qi seethed with hatred. Ye Ya had always been a thorn in her side during their time in the Ye Family. Now that she was no longer part of it, their grandfather and father still talked about her, leaving no one to notice Ye Qi's brilliance.
"Qi Qi, stop wasting your breath on people like her. She's just an illegitimate child; let's go," Zhao Meiqin said. Ever since Ye Ya was brought back by Ye Tao, she had been like a needle pricking at her heart. The thought of that woman still occupying Ye Tao's mind filled her with hatred.
Tao Momo considered slapping Zhao Meiqin for being so infuriating, but Ye Ya stopped her. "Let it go; the resentment built up over more than ten years can't be resolved in an instant. Besides, they spent so much money on clothes; they must be feeling even more unwilling. I don’t want them to know this store is ours."
"Xiao Ya, why do you put up with them? You're no longer in the Ye Family; why endure them?" Tao Momo felt a surge of anger. This mother-daughter duo had bullied Ye Ya for years in the Ye Family; not having beaten them up already was showing them enough mercy.
"Forget it; I've lost my temper countless times over their words," Ye Ya waved dismissively. Ye Qi was the one she disliked the most, yet they shared blood.
Seeing that Ye Ya was unfazed, Tao Momo relented. "By the way, Xiao Ya, have you heard? Xiao Lin said he wants to organize a gathering. If he comes back soon..." She didn't finish her sentence; sometimes Lu Tianyang could be unpredictable. Tao Momo believed if Xiao Ya were with Xiao Lin, he would never behave like that.
"Yeah, Lu Tianyang will be there too. He can be incredibly petty at times," Ye Ya chuckled when mentioning him. It was hard to imagine that a big CEO could act like a child when jealous.
"If he bullies you, don't hold back; we'll teach him a lesson," Tao Momo thought about how Xiao Lin was also in Ning Cheng now. Lu Tianyang would have to think twice before messing with her.
"I know that; couples shouldn't threaten divorce over every little thing. You'll understand once you marry Qi Fan," she replied. Aside from his occasional quirks and being with Fu Wan Jing, Lu Tianyang was generally good and treated both her and Chen Chen well.
Fu Wan Jing had ulterior motives; she didn’t want to stir trouble with Lu Tianyang over trivial matters—it seemed pointless.
"As long as you're happy, Xiao Ya, take a look at our designs," Tao Momo began analyzing her ideas with Ye Ya regarding their creative designs, which had always been Tao Momo's forte.
The company had started to take off, but relying solely on the store's business was not a sustainable method. To expand their enterprise, they needed to change their strategy. Ye Ya and Tao Momo combined their ideas and began a new marketing approach. While they would still maintain their original store model, they planned to scale up, not just limiting sales to the storefront but also creating their own brand. From production to sales, Ye Ya intended to gradually establish their own production line.
Tao Momo's designs were like the sharp edge of a knife, unlocking the market like a key.
When Qi Fan arrived at the store, he happened to catch the two women deep in discussion in the back room. He didn’t want to interrupt but quietly listened to their conversation. Even he, the young master of the Qi Family, couldn’t help but praise their plans. Tao Momo loved design, while Ye Ya focused on marketing; together, they were like gold that would eventually shine brilliantly.
As their discussion wrapped up, Ye Ya noticed Qi Fan standing outside. "Mo Mo, Qi Fan is here."
Tao Momo glanced over and, usually so brave, looked troubled as she addressed Ye Ya. "Xiao Ya, Qi Fan said it’s his mom’s birthday tonight and wants to take me home."
"That's a sign that Qi Fan values you; he wants you to meet his family. You don’t need to worry. If Qi Fan cares about you that much, his family will surely like you," Ye Ya reassured her with a pat on the shoulder. After all, it was natural for any woman to feel nervous about meeting her partner's parents for the first time.
"Xiao Ya, you know my family is just middle-class, while the Qi Family is wealthy. I’ve heard they are particularly picky about daughters-in-law." If it were an ordinary family, Tao Momo wouldn’t be this anxious.
"Mo Mo, we will be part of the elite ourselves one day. You have so much potential; it's far better than those rich young ladies. Once our company grows, those so-called elites won’t dare say a word against us." Ultimately, it was about strength; once they established themselves, they wouldn’t need to rely on anyone else—this was where their confidence lay.
"Yes, Xiao Ya is right. We’ll be elites ourselves in the future; there’s no need to feel inferior," Tao Momo took a deep breath to bolster her courage.
Qi Fan walked in and remarked, "Look at you two busy bees. Mo Mo, are you ready? We should get going."
"Qi Fan, don’t bully Mo Mo; otherwise, I won’t let you off easily," Ye Ya couldn’t help but issue a warning.
"Xiao Ya, don’t worry; I would never do that," he replied quickly. He didn’t want Tao Momo to be upset and ruin her mood; after all, Lu Tianyang would make his life miserable if he upset her.
"Then let’s go." Tao Momo had initially wanted to buy her mother a dress but realized she had no idea what size to get and decided against it. She asked Qi Fan what gift he thought would be appropriate instead; however, he mentioned that his family had everything already but insisted they couldn’t go empty-handed.
The Qi Family is located in an affluent villa area. Although Tao Momo usually appears fearless, the thought of meeting her in-laws made her nervous despite her attempts to reassure herself.
As Qi Fan drove, he comforted her, "Mo Mo, don't be nervous. If I like you, my parents will definitely like you too."
Tao Momo nodded, "Qi Fan, what if your family doesn't like me?" She thought of Ye Ya and the Ye Family and Lu Family, recalling how she had barely enjoyed a peaceful life before Lu Tianyang helped her move out to live on her own.
"Mo Mo, as long as I like you, that's all that matters. Don't worry, I'm here for you," Qi Fan said, pulling over and taking her hand. He noticed that her hand was cold and quickly warmed it with his breath. "Silly girl, don't be afraid. I want you, just you."
Looking at him, a smile crept onto Tao Momo's face. "Hmm, Qi Fan, with you by my side, I'm not scared."
"Alright, let's get out of the car," Qi Fan said, reaching to pat her head but was playfully blocked by Tao Momo. "Don't mess with my hair; it'll get ruined."
Reluctantly, Qi Fan let it go and held Tao Momo's hand as they walked into the Qi Family home. It was his mother's birthday party, filled with socialites. Hearing that her son was bringing home a girlfriend filled Qi Mu with both worry and excitement.
Qi Fan's younger sister, Qi Fei, spotted them immediately as they approached the entrance. "Mom and Dad, look! Brother brought home a girlfriend! But I don't think I've seen this young lady before," she said, trying to recall if she recognized Tao Momo.
Inside the party, amidst the clinking glasses and elegantly dressed guests engaged in lively conversations, Tao Momo felt less composed than Ye Ya.
Qi Fan led her over to his parents. "Mom and Dad, I'm back! First off, happy birthday to Mom! May you have blessings as vast as the Eastern Sea and grow younger every year. This is Tao Momo, my girlfriend. Mo Mo, this is my dad and my sister Qi Fei."
"Hello Uncle and Auntie, Qi Fei. Today is Auntie's birthday. I wasn't sure what she would like, so I brought a small token of my appreciation." Although the gift was chosen by Qi Fan, Tao Momo insisted on paying for it herself to show her sincerity.
Qi Mu sized up Tao Momo and remarked that she looked decent before asking, "Miss Tao, who else is in your family? What do your parents do?"
"I live with my parents; my dad runs a food stall and my mom is a teacher," Tao Momo replied.
Qi Mu couldn't help but think that with a father running a street food stall and a mother who was a teacher, such identities would surely be the subject of laughter if revealed.
“Mom, Mo Mo is amazing. She's a fashion designer and is starting her own company,” Qi Fan said, aware of his mother's expectations for him to marry into a prestigious family. The problem was that he wasn't interested in those women. As he spoke, he tightened his grip on Tao Momo's hand.
“Oh, being a fashion designer isn't that impressive. Miss Tao made this outfit herself,” Qi Mu clearly expressed her dissatisfaction with Tao Momo. How could she possibly accept that her future daughter-in-law came from a family that ran a street food stall?
“Yes, I made this outfit myself. I even wanted to design a set for you and Miss Qi, but I didn't know your sizes,” Tao Momo replied confidently. She didn't see anything shameful about it; many socialites had commissioned her designs.
“Enough. You should keep your clothes for yourself. I'm afraid wearing them would lower my status,” Qi Mu retorted.
Hearing Qi Mu's words, Tao Momo realized that she was being looked down upon. She came from an ordinary family and felt unworthy of Qi Fan, the wealthy young master.
“Mom, Mo Mo has great talent in design,” Qi Fan attempted to continue the introduction, but Qi Mu had already lost interest.
“Brother, I'll go check on Mom. You stay here with Miss Tao,” Qi Fei said, noticing their mother's displeasure. Although Tao Momo didn't come from a prestigious background, she seemed decent enough.
