Du Huiru was remarkably efficient; by the afternoon, the divorce certificate had already been delivered. Ye Ya held it in her hands, staring at the document that signified her complete separation from Lu Tianyang. Strangely, she felt no joy at all.
That evening, Xiao Lin came over again. Ye Ya instructed Guo Ma to prepare a couple more dishes. Xiao Lin had originally planned to take Ye Ya out to celebrate her new beginning, but Ye Ya was not in the mood and preferred to stay home with her child.
Guo Ma harbored no fondness for Xiao Lin, feeling that he bore some responsibility for the current state of affairs between the young master and Lady.
"Xiao Ya, don’t dwell on the past. Things are different now. I’m back and I will protect you," Xiao Lin said, his tone reminiscent of years gone by. But Ye Ya was no longer the same person she used to be.
"Xiao Lin, I’m sorry. Thank you for your kindness, but right now, I don’t want to think about anything else. I just want to raise Chen Chen well." Time had indeed changed her; the initial beauty of their past lingered in her heart. She thought that perhaps the most beautiful feeling was to preserve that memory without shattering it.
"I won’t rush you. Take your time and eat more," Xiao Lin replied with a slight smile, serving her some food. He realized he had been too eager, but it didn’t matter now; she was single again, and he felt he had the right to pursue her.
After Xiao Lin left, Guo Ma approached her. "Lady, do you really want to be with Xiao Lin? I think he’s not as good as the young master."
"Guo Ma, I don’t want anyone right now. I just want to focus on raising Chen Chen. I’m too exhausted to deal with relationships," Ye Ya said before heading upstairs to sleep. She couldn’t bear to return to that room; the pain from last night still reminded her of the intimacy they had shared, and now they were like strangers.
Letting go seemed best for both of them; they were both tired, like two hedgehogs wanting warmth but unaware that holding too tightly only caused more pain.
She entered the children's room and decided to sleep there instead. That other room felt suffused with Lu Tianyang’s presence—inescapable and overwhelming.
Tao Momo received news from Qi Fan and immediately called Ye Ya. Concerned about waking the child, Ye Ya stepped outside before answering. As soon as she pressed the answer button, Tao Momo's voice blared through like an alarm, "Xiao Ya! You divorced Lu Tianyang? What happened? Are you hurt?"
Hurt? Emotionally yes, but physically? That bastard had put her through so much that even walking was painful now. The thought made Ye Ya grit her teeth; did she really want to share this with Tao Momo?
"I did. It’s complicated and hard to explain right now, Mo Mo. I’ll tell you later; I need to be with Chen Chen," Ye Ya replied calmly, perhaps because she had long prepared herself for this divorce.
Lying in bed, she watched Chen Chen sleep soundly like a little piglet. The child could already crawl and would likely be walking soon after the New Year. Ye Ya gently pressed a finger against her nose and smiled at how quickly she was growing up. Having a daughter by her side made life feel a little less difficult.
"Chen Chen, you need to grow up well; Mommy loves you." She took hold of the little hand, and instinctively, the child grasped hers back tightly.
Lu Tianyang dragged Qi Fan into a drunken stupor, and Qi Fan couldn't just leave him be. He didn't want to hand Lu Tianyang over to Fu Wan Jing either, but where on earth was he supposed to take this idiot?
After a moment of thought, Qi Fan decided to call Ye Ya. However, she immediately hung up the phone and lowered her voice, “Hello, Qi Fan? What’s up? Chen Chen is sleeping.”
“Ye Ya, Lu Tianyang is really drunk. If he keeps drinking like this, he might end up with a bleeding stomach.” Qi Fan exaggerated the situation; in truth, he didn’t think they were at the breaking point. Looking at Lu Tianyang, who was shouting Ye Ya's name even in his drunken state, did it seem like they were about to break up?
“Qi Fan, just call Zuo Kai. I have nothing to do with him anymore.” Ye Ya rubbed her temples. How could he drink so much every day without drinking himself to death?
“Ye Ya, you really aren’t going to care about him? Just listen to him; he’s still calling your name while drunk.” Qi Fan moved the phone closer to Lu Tianyang.
“Damn woman, what does Xiao Lin have that I don’t?” Lu Tianyang cursed intermittently for a while before Ye Ya hung up on him.
In the end, he simply didn’t believe her. He didn’t trust a word she said.
Ye Ya turned off her phone, her head pounding. She couldn’t sleep either. But what right did she have to meddle in Lu Tianyang's affairs? Feeling restless, she finally turned over and called Zuo Kai.
Zuo Kai was on his way to the bar when he saw Ye Ya’s call. “Lady, what can I do for you?”
“Tell that bastard Lu Tianyang to drink less. And remember, don’t say I told you so. Oh, and don’t call me Lady from now on.” After saying that, Ye Ya hung up. In truth, Lu Tianyang was an adult; did he really need her worrying about him? She didn’t want to care about him anymore.
Zuo Kai was unaware that they had divorced. When he received Lu Tianyang from Qi Fan, he was taken aback. Was the president really this drunk?
With no other choice, Zuo Kai had to take Lu Tianyang back to the Lu Family. Not long after dropping him off, his phone rang again—Long Shaoxue was sick. Zuo Kai thought to himself that surely the president hadn’t forgotten about Long Shaoxue.
Sighing, Zuo Kai drove over and found Long Shaoxue still tied up. “Why haven’t you untied her?”
“She tried to escape, so we tied her up. Didn’t the president say not to be polite with her?”
“Go get a doctor.” Zuo Kai loosened the ropes around her; the delicate skin on her body had been marked by the bindings.
Zuo Kai patted her face gently. "Long Shaoxue, wake up." She felt incredibly hot; goodness, this young lady was so delicate, always falling ill at the slightest inconvenience.
Long Shaoxue opened her eyes and pushed him away. "I don't need your fake kindness."
"Just lie down; the doctor will be here soon." Zuo Kai pressed her back onto the bed. Long Shaoxue had grown up in luxury, and no one had ever dared to treat her this way, especially not by binding her up like this.
She turned her head away, not wanting to see the source of her troubles. The doctor arrived shortly after and checked her temperature. "Mr. Zuo, she's running a high fever; she needs an injection."
"Can't I just take medicine? I don't want a shot," Long Shaoxue said, trembling at the sight of the thin needle.
"No, you need to get the shot. Listen to the doctor," Zuo Kai replied, watching her fear. She had been so fierce earlier, but now she was terrified of the injection.
"I won't do it," Long Shaoxue shook her head vigorously. She hated needles more than anything.
Zuo Kai held her down, his voice softening. "It'll be over in no time; just don't look." He turned her head away and signaled the doctor to proceed.
"What's there to be afraid of?" Zuo Kai wrapped his arms around her, feeling her body tremble as he spoke to distract her.
"Alright, just sleep for a bit and take your medicine when you wake up." The doctor finished preparing the syringe, explained what to watch for, and then left.
Long Shaoxue glanced around. "Is it over? Did I get the shot?"
Zuo Kai released her and stood up. "I told you it wouldn't hurt. You were just being fierce a moment ago; now you're scared of a little shot?"
Long Shaoxue looked utterly wronged. So what if she was afraid of needles? Being tied up for so long made her feel uncomfortable, and tears streamed down her face.
"Why are you crying? You're not allowed to cry," Zuo Kai snapped irritably, but this only made Long Shaoxue cry harder. "If I can't even cry, then just kill me already, you monster."
"I won't kill you; don't worry. Just stop crying and rest for a bit," Zuo Kai sighed in resignation. Did she really think she was still the pampered young lady from Longmen?
Long Shaoxue rested her head on his feet, wondering how her brother was doing and if he had managed to escape. A wave of despair washed over her.
Zuo Kai suddenly grabbed her, feeling flustered. "I told you not to cry; it's so unattractive. Our CEO brought you back, and he probably won't do anything to you. It's all because of your brother. The CEO and his wife are divorced now, and you still have the nerve to cry."
"What? My brother would never..." Long Shaoxue felt that this was something her brother would never do, and she absolutely refused to believe it.
"Enough. This situation is complicated. I'll talk to the CEO tomorrow and see if I can get you sent home. He hasn't really done anything to you, so stop crying." Zuo Kai ultimately couldn't bear to be harsh with her anymore.
Seeing her hands and feet bound with bruises, Zuo Kai frowned and went outside to fetch a bottle of medicinal alcohol. He quickly rolled up her pant leg, and Long Shaoxue looked at him warily. "What are you trying to do?"
"Long Shaoxue, my patience is limited," Zuo Kai said darkly as he dragged her foot over. At that moment, Long Shaoxue realized he was going to apply the medicinal alcohol on her bruises, and she felt a bit relieved; this man didn't seem so bad after all.
"Ah, be gentle! It hurts!" Long Shaoxue winced as her delicate skin had been bruised from being tied up for so long.
"You deserve it. Who told you to try to escape? You can't just leave without being tied up," Zuo Kai said as he rubbed the bruise firmly; it wouldn't fade without some pressure.
"Zuo Kai, that hurts! Be gentler!" Long Shaoxue pressed down on his hand, trying to stop him from continuing.
"Let go; bear with it," Zuo Kai glared at her, and Long Shaoxue had no choice but to release her grip, too afraid to speak further. Tears she had been holding back fell directly onto Zuo Kai's hand.
Those tears seemed to have a penetrating quality; Zuo Kai felt as if his hand was being pierced through. "Stop crying! If you don't rub out this bruise, it won't heal quickly. This medicinal alcohol works wonders." His grip softened slightly.
Long Shaoxue bit her lip and said nothing more, simply watching him quietly. After finishing with her foot, Zuo Kai took a look at her hand. "Does it really hurt that much?"
Long Shaoxue wanted to nod but immediately shook her head instead. "I... I can endure it."
"Extend your hand; let me see," Zuo Kai said, finding her current demeanor somewhat endearing.
Obeying him, Long Shaoxue obediently stretched out her hand. Her skin was very fair, making the two bruises stand out even more starkly. "Just endure a little longer; it’ll be over soon."
"Okay," Long Shaoxue thought for a moment before saying, "Zuo Kai, no one has ever dared to touch my feet or my hands before; you're the first."
The young lady of Longmen, once under the protection of Long Shaotang, was untouchable.
Zuo Kai suddenly lifted her chin and asked, "Has any man ever kissed you?"
Long Shaoxue's face turned crimson. "W-What do you want to do? Who would dare kiss me? My brother would kill him!"
Seeing her flustered expression, Zuo Kai's lips moved as if he were about to say something, but then he made a decision that surprised even himself—he leaned in and kissed her.
She was inexperienced and didn't know how to react. Zuo Kai found her dazed look utterly captivating; if she didn't know how, then he would teach her.
After a long moment, Zuo Kai released her, staring at her swollen lips in shock. His self-control was not as weak as he thought.
Long Shaoxue's mind was still spinning; she felt like her brain had short-circuited. "Y-You..." She struggled to find words.
"Get some sleep and stop talking nonsense," Zuo Kai said, pulling her pillow and firmly pushing her down onto the bed. Long Shaoxue realized she might have lost her voice; she couldn't even muster a curse.
