“Lu Tianyang, don’t get ahead of yourself. I absolutely didn’t mean that.”
Lu Tianyang glanced at her, signaling her to stop explaining; he understood. “Alright, dear, no more explanations. Let’s eat. I want to have two extra bowls of rice tonight.” He felt that being back here had even improved his appetite, and he picked Ye Ya up and carried her downstairs.
With so many servants in the house, Ye Ya pushed against him. “Put me down! I can walk by myself. What if someone sees us? It would be embarrassing.”
“Who would dare laugh?” Lu Tianyang scoffed, ignoring her protests as he carried her down.
Guo Ma seemed particularly cheerful tonight, having prepared a lavish dinner. “Young Master, Lady, take your time eating. I’ll go upstairs to help Young Miss sleep.”
Ye Ya felt like crying; Guo Ma was clearly trying to send Chen Chen away so that the two of them could be alone.
“Alright, let’s eat. There are so many dishes; you need to eat more. Look at how sharp your chin has become. You can’t eat properly without me around, can you?” Lu Tianyang said as he served her food.
Ye Ya sighed and picked up her chopsticks. “Lu Tianyang, when you’re around, I’m too angry to eat.”
The dinner was indeed plentiful, and Ye Ya ended up with a full belly, feeling too stuffed to move. Lu Tianyang had the servants bring over two cups of digestive tea, and they settled on the sofa to watch TV.
As they watched financial news, Ye Ya couldn’t help but think of Long Shaotang. “Hey, Lu Tianyang, are you really planning to acquire the place under Longmen?”
“Don’t you like it? That Long Shaotang is really shameless for daring to set his sights on you,” Lu Tianyang replied with a frown. He was still furious about Long Shaotang’s intentions towards his woman; it was like asking for trouble.
“Lu Tianyang, let it go. Really, making enemies with Longmen won’t do you any good. It’s better to have more friends than foes. Besides, Long Shaotang hasn’t actually made a move against me. When you asked why I went to see Xiao Lin that time, it was actually to check on Long Shaotang. I just wanted to confirm whether that jerk had really laid a hand on me. Fortunately, he’s somewhat decent; otherwise, I would have dealt with him myself.”
Now that they were both divorced, they could discuss this matter calmly. Back then, Lu Tianyang had been like a bull out of control in the arena; he wouldn’t listen to anyone's advice. But things were different now; Ye Ya didn’t have to worry about his mood anymore.
Lu Tianyang fell silent for a moment. "Wife, I'm sorry."
Ye Ya took a sip of tea and changed the subject. "There's no point in discussing this. Let's forget about the Longmen situation. I don't want you to get into a conflict with them because of me." Although Longmen's overall strength couldn't compare to the Lu Family, they were still part of the underworld and engaged in business. It wouldn't be wise to offend them entirely; Long Shaotang had learned his lesson.
"Wife, you still care about me, don't you? Alright, I'll listen to you. I won't pursue the acquisition of Longmen anymore." Lu Tianyang held her hand tightly, refusing to let go. Ye Ya struggled a bit; she felt it was necessary to have a serious talk with this man.
"Lu Tianyang, I think we really need to talk. First, I'm not your wife; we're divorced. Second, please don't touch me; we don't have any relationship now, so respect me. Third, you are not allowed back in my bed."
"Why not? I don't care! Are you saying we can start over? Wife, does that mean I should pursue you again?" Lu Tianyang pondered for a moment before releasing her hand. "I understand now; I'll pursue you again. Will you agree to be my girlfriend?"
Ye Ya rolled her eyes. "Lu Tianyang, you're too naive. Is this how you ask someone to be your girlfriend? Don't mess around; I hate that."
Lu Tianyang sighed. "I got it—no messing around. Just wait for me a moment; I'll be right back."
Ye Ya had no idea what he was up to but watched as he hurriedly drove away. She couldn't be bothered with him anymore; they were nothing to each other now.
Ye Ya went upstairs to check on her daughter. Chen Chen had already been lulled to sleep by Guo Ma. Back in her room, she thought about needing to go south again tomorrow to finalize matters at the factory. This couldn't be delayed any longer; she had prepared many things already and couldn’t afford any slip-ups at this stage.
Half an hour later, Lu Tianyang returned with flowers he had bought from somewhere and directly stuffed them into her hands. "Do you like them? This was all the shop had left; I can get you a prettier bouquet tomorrow."
Seeing the sweat beads on his forehead, Ye Ya sighed. "Lu Tianyang, did you run out just to buy these flowers? What's wrong with you?" They were indeed beautiful flowers, but didn’t they already have a garden at home?
"Isn't it normal for guys to give flowers when pursuing girls? Don't you like them?" Lu Tianyang felt a bit frustrated; he thought Ye Ya would appreciate them.
"Lu Tianyang, have you ever pursued a girl before?" Ye Ya found him quite foolish.
"Wife, besides you, I've never pursued anyone else! Besides, is there really a need to pursue? Those women usually come after me! But don’t worry; I’m not interested in any of them." Lu Tianyang hurriedly clarified his innocence, afraid she might misunderstand him as some kind of playboy.
“Then what about Fu Wan Jing?” Ye Ya raised an eyebrow, speaking as if she truly believed him. Could his words be trusted?
“Oh, her? Back in college, it wasn't really a pursuit. Later on, we just didn’t get along, and she went abroad. You already know all this, right?” Lu Tianyang spoke the truth; Fu Wan Jing was his first love, and everyone is particularly naive during their first love—he was no exception.
“Who knows if what you’re saying is true? You always lie to me. Fine, I’ve received the flowers; you can leave now.” Ye Ya waved her hand, signaling him to go. Of course, Lu Tianyang was reluctant. “Can’t I sleep on the sofa? You only said I couldn’t share the bed, but you didn’t say I couldn’t sleep on the sofa.”
What a rogue.
“Well, if someone starts off sleeping in a girl’s room, isn’t that just being a scoundrel? I can tell you have no sincerity in pursuing me,” Ye Ya said angrily, turning her head away from him. The bouquet looked nice, though; the lilies smelled wonderful.
“I do have sincerity. I’ll step out for now. By the way, your foot shouldn’t touch water. I’ll come check on it later, so I won’t disturb your rest.” Lu Tianyang actually left. He walked into the adjacent room and opened Baidu.
What a reckless move; Ye Ya couldn’t be treated like an ordinary woman. If it were someone else, would he really need to go through so much trouble?
After searching for a while on Baidu, Lu Tianyang furrowed his brows tightly. He had never put so much thought into a woman before. His situation with Ye Ya was different; they hadn’t started because of love. Now, they were in a divorced state, and if he wanted to reconcile, he truly had to put in some effort.
Once Lu Tianyang left, Ye Ya let out a sigh of relief. She walked into the bathroom and thought about his words. Instead of taking a bath, she simply washed up quickly while her mind was still occupied with matters from the factory.
Lu Tianyang knocked on the door. “Xiao Ya, can I come in?”
Ye Ya was taken aback; he actually knocked. This scoundrel usually treated this place like his own—had he finally learned to respect her?
“What is it?”
“I need to talk to you about something. It’s better if you don’t come out to open the door since I know your foot isn’t convenient right now. I’ll just come in myself.”
Look, this man is still so domineering at his core. He opened her door and walked straight in. "Have you finished your shower?"
"Yeah, I didn't take care of my foot properly. Don't worry, you can go out now."
"Alright, I asked the doctor today and brought you some medicine. Applying this will help it heal faster." For Lu Tianyang, Ye Ya's weight was nothing; he effortlessly lifted her from the computer chair to the sofa.
"The wound is much better now. Just don't move around too much. I'll apply the medicine and then leave. Are you afraid I’ll eat you?" Lu Tianyang carefully applied ointment to her wound. The ointment seemed effective; it felt more comfortable once applied.
"I am actually a bit scared, thank you." Ye Ya pulled her foot back, and Lu Tianyang looked at her and nodded. "You should rest early and stop looking at the computer. Be good; I’ll sleep in the guest room." After saying that, Lu Tianyang took advantage of her moment of distraction and gave her a quick kiss before running off.
Once outside the master bedroom, Lu Tianyang took out his phone and called Zuo Kai, who was currently in a car. "President, is there something urgent at this late hour?"
"Zuo Kai, haven’t you taken care of that trivial matter yet?" Lu Tianyang thought to himself that he could just buy that piece of land for her.
"President, it's all sorted out. Tomorrow Manager Ma will personally call Lady, and we’ll lower the price by 10%. In short, we won’t let Lady suffer any losses."
"That's good. Once it's done, hurry back," he said, wanting to prevent that woman from dwelling on that matter every day.
Zuo Kai hung up the phone and glanced at Long Shaoxue sitting beside him. "Are you tired? Just hold on a bit longer; we’ll head back tomorrow morning. If you don’t like it here, we can go back tonight." The conditions here were not as good as in the city, and he worried that Long Shaoxue might not be comfortable.
"I'm fine; I'm not afraid when I'm with you." Long Shaoxue felt reassured with him around; he was attentive and made sure everything was well arranged for her.
Zuo Kai stopped the car. "Then you should reward me quickly."
Long Shaoxue glanced over; this man was clearly waiting for her to kiss him. Seeing that there was no one around in this rural area at night gave her a bit more courage, so she quickly leaned in and kissed him.
Zuo Kai glanced around the surroundings and quickly turned the car into the nearby woods. "Zuo Kai, what are you doing here? It's really scary at night. Let's hurry and leave," the woman said, her fear evident. After all, most people are afraid of the dark, and Long Shaoxue was no exception.
Zuo Kai pressed a button, and the seat beside him reclined like a half-lying bed. "What are you afraid of? I'm here with you, Long Shaoxue. You promised me when you came."
He unbuckled his seatbelt. The darkness enveloped them, and she looked particularly anxious, which only added to the thrill of the moment.
"Zuo Kai, can we go home first? I don't want to be here. Listen, it sounds like something is calling out. I'm scared," Long Shaoxue said, growing more frightened by the second as she clung to his neck.
Zuo Kai pulled her into his embrace and gently patted her shoulder. "Don't be afraid; I'll protect you. I just want to be with you for a moment, okay? It will be quick."
"Then hurry up; I'm really scared," Long Shaoxue said, unable to refuse his request as she noticed the sweat on his forehead, realizing he must be holding back a lot.
"Good girl, don't be scared. What is there to fear?" Zuo Kai said, looking at her pitiful expression with a touch of reluctance. He decided that after this one time, he would let her go.
