Qiao Nuo woke up again, and it was already the next morning.
She seemed to be in a hotel. As her mind cleared, memories of last night slowly came back to her, and her heart leaped into her throat!
She sat up abruptly and checked her clothes!
Fortunately, her clothes were intact on her body, but she immediately felt something was off. After she had gone to throw up last night and returned to the private room, she had only drunk one glass of wine before feeling dizzy and then lost consciousness.
Qiao Nuo still felt uneasy. Glancing at the time, it was already ten o'clock. She quickly called the company, only to be informed that Lu Ling had been dismissed that morning, reportedly by a direct order from headquarters.
She was stunned. What had happened?
Qiao Nuo rubbed her temples, washed up, checked out of the hotel, and left. There was no way to return to Jin Mansion; she could only head straight to the company.
In the taxi, Qiao Nuo took out her phone and scrolled through today's news when a gossip headline suddenly caught her eye.
It read: A well-known actress was assaulted at a hotel last night and discreetly went to the police afterward.
The article included a photo, and although Qiao Nuo initially hesitated to click on it, she froze when she recognized a familiar figure in the image.
It was Ruan Shengyu, and the other figure with a black bag over their head looked remarkably like Lu Ling! And there was Mr. Zhao as well!
If it was Lu Ling, then it made sense that Lu Ling was directly fired by the headquarters today; it was clearly Jin Chengyan's doing!
How dare Lu Ling lay a hand on Ruan Shengyu? He must have a death wish!
However, Qiao Nuo quickly thought about why Lu Ling would even encounter Ruan Shengyu. Surely, Ruan Shengyu must have bodyguards around her...
She didn’t dwell on it too much and headed straight to the company.
To her surprise, the office was buzzing with gossip about the incident. How could Lu Ling be so audacious as to act against a rising Female Star? Who was this Female Star meeting with in such grand attire?
As Qiao Nuo had gone to the restaurant with Lu Ling the day before, she was naturally bombarded with questions. Just then, her phone rang; it was a call from the school.
The teacher informed Qiao Nuo that Qiao Chen had gotten into a fight at school and had been given a one-week suspension. She needed to come pick him up immediately.
Qiao Nuo was furious. After all the effort she put into finding a school for Qiao Chen, he had gone and gotten into trouble again!
She quickly took leave and rushed to the school, dragging Qiao Chen back home.
Qiao Chen had some injuries on his face, but Qiao Nuo didn’t even want to tend to them; she felt utterly powerless.
“Qiao Chen, what do you want me to do? It’s not easy for me to find you a school, and yet you still get into fights. Tell me, what was it this time? No one at this school should be saying your family is bankrupt or anything like that! If you don’t give me a proper explanation today, don’t even think about resting!” Qiao Nuo stood in front of Qiao Chen, shorter than him but radiating an undeniable authority!
Qiao Chen remained silent, merely lowering his head.
The stubborn expression on his face was strikingly similar to that of Qiao Nuo.
Seeing Qiao Chen remain silent only fueled Qiao Nuo's anger further, and she reached out to hit his shoulder.
“Qiao Chen, are you trying to drive me crazy? If you keep this up, I won’t care about you anymore.” Qiao Nuo was genuinely upset; why did her eighteen-year-old brother still act like a child who hadn’t grown up?
She turned away, took a deep breath, but the tears still wouldn’t stop.
Yesterday, she had drunk too much and her stomach was in pain, and now her brother was being so thoughtless.
“Sis, please don’t cry. I promise there won’t be a next time…” Qiao Chen still wouldn’t say what had happened, but he was indeed acknowledging his mistake.
Qiao Nuo ignored him, shook off his hand, and went into her room, slamming the door shut behind her.
The small rented apartment fell into a heavy silence.
