“I said to promote it vigorously, can’t you understand?”
“Smash—”
Qiao Nuo had just reached the door when she heard a furious shout from inside the room, followed by the sound of a phone being smashed onto the floor.
Qiao Nuo shrank her neck, thinking that this was the second phone Jin Chengyan had broken since they met!
Why does he have to take his anger out on his phone?
“Knock, knock, knock…” Qiao Nuo freed one hand to knock on the door. Although she wasn’t sure if entering like this would get her thrown out by Jin Chengyan as well, she bravely knocked anyway.
“Get lost—” Jin Chengyan shouted angrily, clearly not wanting to see anyone.
But looking at the steaming bowl of porridge on the tray and the medicine that Qi Doctor had insisted he must take, Qiao Nuo could only push the door open and step inside.
Sure enough, Qiao Nuo saw Jin Chengyan sitting there with a pale face, filled with anger. He noticed someone was coming in and thought it was A Shan. Just as he was about to yell, he caught sight of Qiao Nuo and swallowed his words.
It seemed he had no intention of directing his anger at her.
Feeling relieved, Qiao Nuo said, “Didn’t you say you were hungry? Since you’re sick, I made you some porridge. And I brought the medicine that Qi Doctor insisted you must take… Even if you’re angry, you should eat something…”
She placed the tray on the bedside table and stood up straight. After saying all this, Qiao Nuo didn’t know what to do next.
Should she just leave, or stay to watch him eat his porridge and take his medicine before departing?
But thinking back to how Jin Chengyan had treated her roughly last night, even if he had mistaken her for someone else, Qiao Nuo still felt a knot in her heart.
She didn’t want to be someone else's substitute; even if he was drunk, she didn’t want that.
Yet, seeing Jin Chengyan like this now, it seemed he couldn’t remember what had happened last night.
Had he forgotten about it, or did he simply not want to bring it up?
Qiao Nuo chose to believe the former.
“Water,” Jin Chengyan said, his brow slightly furrowed, his voice still a bit hoarse.
But just moments ago, he had been shouting with such vigor at the person on the other end of the phone!
Qiao Nuo pouted as she looked at Jin Chengyan’s outstretched hand, realizing he wanted her to fetch him some water! But the distance from the headboard to him was barely half a meter!
When the expected water didn’t arrive, Jin Chengyan lifted his head and shot her a slight glare.
Only then did Qiao Nuo reluctantly pick up the glass of water from the tray and hand it over to Jin Chengyan.
“By the way, thank you for not retaliating against me. Qiao Chen has already gone to school. You probably choose to believe that I am innocent in this matter with Ruan Shengyu. I’ve always said that if one is upright, they need not fear shadows. I have no grievances with Ruan Shengyu, and I won’t go against a girl just for you.”
Hearing Qiao Nuo's words, Jin Chengyan suddenly raised his head, his gaze sharp as he looked at her.
"Oh? Then who would you do such things for? Shen Fengye?" The sick Jin Chengyan seemed to speak even more harshly.
Clearly, she and Shen Fengye had long since severed ties; why was he bringing it up now?
"Don't bring up things that don't matter. I'm letting it slide because you're sick. You should rest well; I need to go to work," Qiao Nuo thought it best to keep her distance from Jin Chengyan at this moment.
Jin Chengyan was sure that Qiao Nuo's change of topic was merely a cover-up, and he called out to her.
"Qiao Nuo, I don't remember if I've mentioned this before, but since you are now my lawful wife, you should keep your distance from other men." Jin Chengyan's cold voice reached Qiao Nuo's ears.
"Huh?" Qiao Nuo couldn't grasp what Jin Chengyan was getting at.
"Yan Beiting." The three words that came from his mouth sounded particularly awkward to Qiao Nuo.
