"After catching a chill, I feel weak, but I still suggest we take her to the hospital for a check-up," Qi Ziluo said as he put away his stethoscope and wrote out a prescription for A Shan to collect the medicine.
He was speaking to Jin Chengyan, who stood by the bed, staring at the pale-faced girl lying there, his expression as cold as frost.
Indeed, it was Jin Chengyan who had gone to the police station first. He wanted to confront Qiao Nuo about her malicious intentions—how could she deny framing Ruan Shengyu? What kind of twisted mindset would lead her to ruin an innocent girl's reputation?
However, when he arrived, the police had called for a doctor because a suspect in custody had fainted.
Seeing them carry Qiao Nuo out of the holding room filled him with concern.
Without saying a word, he rushed forward and took Qiao Nuo from their hands, cradling her as he left. Behind him, he heard the shocked voices of the officers and their attempts to intervene, which A Shan handled.
He then brought Qiao Nuo back to Jin Mansion and asked Qi Ziluo to come over as well.
When Qi Ziluo noticed that Jin Chengyan was ignoring him, he packed up his things, patted Jin Chengyan on the shoulder, and exited Qiao Nuo's room.
It would be a lie to say that Jin Chengyan wasn't angry!
Ruan Shengyu had been violated, and he had sent people to investigate. The prime suspect was Qiao Nuo. However, after Qiao Nuo's explanation and Ruan Shengyu's lack of pursuit on the matter, it had all been downplayed.
But unexpectedly, there was another layer to this—Qiao Nuo had been orchestrating things behind the scenes to help Lu Ling and Zhao Qian bully Ruan Shengyu! All for the sake of securing a contract in the end!
Had he failed to see through Qiao Nuo, or was she simply too good at putting on an act?
He watched as the person on the bed slowly began to awaken. In her dazed state, she realized she was in Jin Mansion and saw Jin Chengyan standing at her bedside.
"Jin Chengyan..." Qiao Nuo called his name as she gradually propped herself up in bed, feeling dizzy.
All she could remember was being at the police station where they hadn’t even left her a glass of water or turned on the air conditioning. She had always feared confined spaces since childhood; with dim lighting and stagnant air, she had fainted while leaning over the table!
Now waking up in her room at Jin Mansion, she found Jin Chengyan standing before her.
Was it him who had rescued her from the police station?
“Jin Chengyan, it wasn't me…” Qiao Nuo thought about the police's relentless questioning, leaving her with nowhere to hide. Now, facing Jin Chengyan, all she wanted was to tell him that she wasn’t the one responsible.
There were no elaborate explanations, just a simple statement: it wasn’t her.
Jin Chengyan's expression was calm, making it hard to tell whether he was angry or if he believed her.
Suddenly, he sat down beside her and raised his hand to caress her cheek.
She instinctively recoiled; his hand was icy cold, as if he had just stepped out of a freezer, completely different from the warmth she remembered.
His gaze was equally inscrutable. What was he really thinking?
“Qiao Nuo, do you love me?” Jin Chengyan asked, his tone serious and devoid of any hint of jest. He was earnestly waiting for her answer.
“I just came from the police station. They asked me if I was the one who framed Ruan Shengyu, but it wasn’t me…”
“Qiao Nuo, do you love me?” Jin Chengyan repeated the same question.
Qiao Nuo felt lost; she had no idea what Jin Chengyan wanted from her!
“I’ve only met Ruan Shengyu twice—once when she came into Jin Mansion and another time at the hotel when she greeted me…”
“Qiao Nuo, do you love me?” Jin Chengyan leaned closer, finally placing his cold hand on her face.
Qiao Nuo held her breath, staring into Jin Chengyan’s eyes that were so close.
Did she love this man?
She didn’t know. All she knew was that during her most helpless moments, he had given her a contract that allowed her to change her circumstances. Though it was mutually beneficial, she was the one who gained the most!
When she was bullied by former friends and an ex-boyfriend, it was Jin Chengyan who stood up for her!
After her father's death, she was at a loss for how to cope, until Jin Chengyan saw through her thoughts and comforted her.
Now, this very Jin Chengyan was asking Qiao Nuo if she loved him.
"Yes, I like you," Qiao Nuo faced Jin Chengyan directly. She could not deny the affection she felt in her heart, nor could she deny that she indeed had feelings for him.
Jin Chengyan said nothing. She noticed the corners of his mouth curve slightly upward, unsure whether he was happy because someone admired him or if he felt satisfied by some other confirmation. In any case, he smiled subtly.
Then, before Qiao Nuo could react, Jin Chengyan's kiss descended upon her.
"Mm..." Qiao Nuo grabbed hold of Jin Chengyan, surprised by his sudden action.
He laid her back on the bed, propping himself up beside her with one hand while showering her with gentle kisses. Between them lay a thin blanket, yet she could still feel the heat radiating from his body.
With his other hand, he grasped Qiao Nuo's chin, tilting her face up to meet his kiss.
All Qiao Nuo could do was clutch tightly at the fabric of his waist, overwhelmed by a mix of nervousness and excitement.
When Jin Chengyan suddenly kissed her, did it mean he believed in her? Otherwise, he would never have made such a bold move!
But surely, Jin Chengyan must have been thinking of Ruan Shengyu; why would he kiss her?
"Qiao Nuo, you're not being serious," Jin Chengyan pulled away from her lips, his deep-set eyes locking onto hers as if trying to see into her very soul.
Qiao Nuo's face flushed instantly. From the police station until now, she had been unable to think clearly.
Now, caught in the whirlwind of his unexpected kiss, she felt utterly lost.
Thus, she found it impossible to take things seriously.
It seemed that Jin Chengyan, perhaps to punish her for this lack of seriousness, leaned down and playfully bit her lip. The sudden sting jolted her back to reality, and she realized they were lying on the bed in an intimate position—with him pressing down on her!
"Jin Chengyan..." Qiao Nuo whispered his name softly, disoriented from both her earlier fainting spell and the intensity of his passion now.
What answered Qiao Nuo was an even more thorough kiss from Jin Chengyan!
She felt his hand slip under her clothing, his cool fingers gliding over her heated skin.
Qiao Nuo found her mind blank, overwhelmed by a sensation she had never experienced before. She couldn’t resist, couldn’t push the person on top of her away.
All her thoughts surged to the forefront of her mind. She closed her eyes, surrendering to everything Jin Chengyan was giving her.
……
“Sir, I’ve brought the medicine…”
A Shan pushed the door open, completely unaware that Qiao Nuo was already awake. He had no idea that his young master was behaving in such a manner while she was unwell, nor did he realize how impatient his master had been!
The room fell silent for what felt like two seconds before A Shan quickly stepped back, closing the door quietly behind him.
Inside the room, Qiao Nuo’s face flushed as she pulled the blanket over herself.
She had been left nearly bare, while he looked relatively composed except for his slightly disheveled shirt.
The sudden intrusion from A Shan caused the turbulent emotions in both of them to dissipate, and it was then that Qiao Nuo felt a wave of shame wash over her.
Just moments ago, they had almost…
Jin Chengyan’s hand remained beneath the blanket, resting gently on her lower abdomen, softly caressing her.
Qiao Nuo found herself unable to resist such a gesture. She closed her eyes, her face burning with embarrassment.
She knew this was truly shameful, yet she had no reason to refuse Jin Chengyan. All she could do was grip the blanket tightly.
“Rest well,” Jin Chengyan said as he withdrew his hand from under the blanket, tucked it in around her snugly, and stood up to leave.
Qiao Nuo wanted to say something more, but Jin Chengyan’s departing figure showed no hint of reluctance.
Qiao Nuo felt an overwhelming discomfort throughout her body.
Jin Chengyan had been distant, having rejected her just days ago, telling her that their relationship was merely one of a contract. Yet today, when she found herself trapped in the police station, it was he who came to her rescue, even asking her if she loved him!
Just moments ago, when things had escalated, she sensed that his feelings were far from the typical male taking advantage of a female.
Did Jin Chengyan really need to take advantage of a woman?
With just a wave of his hand, countless women would eagerly throw themselves at him!
So, Jin Chengyan must have feelings for her too!
And she despised keeping such feelings bottled up inside.
Qiao Nuo truly disliked this sensation. She threw off the covers but couldn’t find her slippers, so she stood barefoot on the floor and dashed out.
In the corridor outside, A Shan was bowing her head in apology to Jin Chengyan. Upon seeing Qiao Nuo rush out, A Shan immediately lowered her head even further, wishing she could sink into the ground!
Jin Chengyan turned around and saw Qiao Nuo running out in nothing but her pajamas.
A tightness gripped his lower abdomen.
If it hadn’t been for A Shan barging in earlier, Jin Chengyan knew he wouldn’t have been able to hold back!
What was it that drew him in? He couldn’t quite understand.
With so many women around him, he would rather take care of himself than touch any of them; they simply felt dirty to him!
But Qiao Nuo—just a touch, just a kiss—set off an uncontrollable reaction within him!
She wasn’t even the most beautiful woman he knew; her figure wasn’t the best either, and she wasn’t particularly glamorous. Yet still, he found himself responding to Qiao Nuo!
A Shan sensed the subtle atmosphere between Jin Chengyan and Qiao Nuo and quietly slipped away.
Qiao Nuo gazed at Jin Chengyan as she stepped closer, tilting her head to look up at him.
This man was truly handsome, with sharp features, deep-set eyes, and alluring thin lips.
"Is Ruan Shengyu really your girlfriend?" Qiao Nuo asked him, her concern evident.
Jin Chengyan looked at Qiao Nuo's petite figure beneath the white nightgown and felt an overwhelming urge to take her to bed right then and there.
"No," he replied. She had never been his girlfriend.
She loved to interact with him as a friend but had never publicly claimed to be the friend of the Jin Family Young Master.
Upon receiving this answer, Qiao Nuo seemed to lose all restraint. She stood on her tiptoes, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him deeply.
