Recently, rumors began to circulate within the palace.
These rumors gradually spread, with some claiming that although Hong Hui was intelligent, his character was too weak to handle great responsibilities in the future; others said that Minjin was autocratic in the harem, disregarding the other consorts.
Although there was no solid evidence for these rumors, they nonetheless influenced people's perceptions of Minjin and Hong Hui to some extent.
Upon hearing these rumors, Minjin was filled with anger.
Someone must be scheming behind her back.
She did not panic but decided to respond calmly.
“Chun Qiu, go find out where these rumors originated,” Minjin instructed her companion Chun Qiu.
Chun Qiu took her leave to investigate. After some effort, she finally discovered the source of the rumors—Ning Pin.
Upon learning the truth, Minjin resolved to confront Ning Pin personally.
She wanted Ning Pin to understand that she was not someone to be easily bullied.
Minjin, accompanied by Chun Qiu, arrived at Ning Pin's palace.
Seeing Minjin's sudden arrival, Ning Pin felt a bit flustered but managed to maintain a facade of composure as she welcomed Minjin.
"Your Majesty's presence truly brings glory to this palace," Ning Pin said with a forced smile.
Minjin shot her a cold glance and replied, "Ning Pin, there's no need for your pretense. I came here today to ask you if you are the one spreading those rumors about me and Hong Hui."
Ning Pin's heart sank, but she feigned innocence, saying, "Your Majesty, what do you mean? I truly do not understand."
Minjin snorted coldly. "Even now, you still want to argue? I have already found out that these rumors were spread by the maids and eunuchs under your instruction. What exactly is your purpose?"
Seeing that her scheme had been exposed, Ning Pin dropped the act. She spat out fiercely, "Yes, it was me. Why should you and your son receive the Emperor's favor? I refuse to accept it!"
Minjin looked at her crazed expression, feeling both anger and helplessness. "Ning Pin, you are being foolish. In this palace, only by treating the Emperor and others sincerely can one gain respect and happiness. What you are doing will only lead you to a path of no return."
But Ning Pin refused to listen to Minjin's words; she shouted defiantly, "I don't care! I just want to see you both lose favor!"
Seeing her so stubborn and unyielding, Minjin chose not to say more. She stated solemnly, "Ning Pin, the mistakes you've made will not be easily forgiven. I will report this matter to the Emperor for his judgment."
With that, Minjin turned and left Ning Pin's palace with Chun Qiu.
Ning Pin watched Minjin's departing figure and collapsed onto the ground.
She had lost.
Her fate was about to change.
Upon returning to her palace, Minjin immediately informed Long Huan of the situation.
Long Huan was furious upon hearing this.
He had not expected Ning Pin to be so bold as to spread rumors within the palace, disrupting the order of the harem.
"Your Majesty, Ning Pin's actions are truly unforgivable. She has not only harmed me and Hong Hui but has also disturbed the peace of the harem," Minjin said.
Long Huan nodded and replied, "I will punish Ning Pin severely, so she understands the consequences of betraying me and violating the rules of the harem."
Soon after, Long Huan ordered Ning Pin to be demoted to a commoner and had all the palace maids and eunuchs involved in this matter punished with caning.
Ning Pin was cast into the cold palace, her ambition and jealousy ultimately leading to her downfall.
After this incident, the harem returned to tranquility once more. Minjin and Hong Hui managed to weather this crisis, and their lives gradually returned to normal.
Minjin also became more aware that in this deep palace, one must always remain vigilant to protect oneself and one's family.
