William followed her finger and took the ice water, swallowing it down as if it were medicine. "Cough, I have something to tell you," he said. He felt his throat loosen up a bit, and when he spoke again, his voice was a little louder.
"Okay, go ahead."
Elena had considered just bluffing her way through, but seeing William looking so serious, she dismissed the idea. She sat upright, looking serious and waiting for him to speak.
William is getting nervous again.
His Adam's apple bobbed up and down, his eyes darting around, and it seemed that as soon as he thought about what he was about to say, he started to blush.
"I..."
William coughed lightly again.
"Elena, we've known each other for a while, and you know how I feel."
He had prepared a very sentimental and moving confession, but now, all the gorgeous words were completely forgotten.

He was saying he wouldn't change his mind.
But Elena didn't believe him.

William's voice lowered with obvious disappointment.

William looked up in disbelief.
This answer was not what he had expected.
"You are an endearing person, and I have no reason not to like you," Elena touched her ear, feeling a bit embarrassed. "I don't want to lie, I did have a crush on you, but I am also aware that it's not love."
"Moreover, the more important thing is, I can't accept your identity."
"I mean it, to be a princess? I've never thought about it in my whole life." Looking at William's gradually dimming eyes, Elena felt a bit of regret, but she gritted her teeth and continued, "There's no freedom in royal life. Elena said this not to make him feel guilty.
"You're really great, William. You're the second best man I've ever met, after my older brother."
She lightly patted William's shoulder, "I believe you will meet a better girl, a girl who loves you with all her heart and effort."
William forced a smile, but that's not you.
"Can I hug you for a moment?"
After a moment of silence, he smiled and asked, "Shall we consider it a final embrace before parting ways?"
"Okay," Elena opened her arms.
William's embrace was strong, as if he wanted to merge Elena into his body, but it was just for a moment, a strong moment, and then he let go. Letting go of Elena, he also let go of his relentless love for her.
