When Xu Shen heard his mother speak these words, he was indeed taken aback. His mother had never shared such experiences with him before. Although he had said things in the past that upset her and she would scold him lightly, today was different. Instead of reproaching him, she merely reminded him of her past experiences.
Though he could not personally relate to what his mother described and couldn’t fully understand her feelings at that time, he could tell from her words that having an illness during pregnancy was something incredibly difficult to comprehend and undoubtedly painful. While he might never experience such suffering in his life, listening to his mother talk about it made it clear that this journey had been extremely arduous—one that few could endure.
Thus, his mother’s image remained one of great strength and resilience.
