After Shen Chi left, the Ruan Family fell into chaos.
“Old man, what are you doing? That is A Xia's only child! I don’t care what grievances you have with that person; that is my child, my dear grandson.” With that, she tried to rush out.
Grandpa Ruan shouted sternly, “You are not going anywhere! A married daughter is like spilled water. She brought this upon herself. I made it clear to her from the beginning; since she insists on going her own way, then she is no longer my Ruan Liang’s daughter.”
“You—” Grandma Ruan was so furious that she collapsed into her chair, while Grandpa Ruan remained unmoved, glaring at his sons with a cold expression. “You are all grown up and have your own ideas. Good! My Ruan Family’s reputation has been completely ruined by you all. Now, get out!”
The room erupted in shock at his words. Wang Fang looked confused. “Father, what do you mean?”
“What do I mean?” Grandpa Ruan glared at her furiously. “Can’t you understand plain words? When a tree grows branches, people must separate. Get out!”
This caused an uproar in the Ruan Family. Separate? And leave with nothing? Where would they live?
Wang Fang was thoroughly panicked, and Zheng Xiuzhi was equally shocked, tightly gripping her husband Jian Jun's arm. “Jian Jun, I know I was wrong! I’m sorry! I’ll go apologize to Brother Shen right now. Isn’t separating the family a bit too much?”
“Too much? If I had known it would come to this, why did we even start? Didn’t I tell you not to get involved with Brother Shen? Why didn’t you listen?” Ruan Jianjun pulled her hand away with an exasperated expression. “It’s too late for that now. My father always means what he says. Didn’t you always want to live independently? Pack your things.”
Zheng Xiuzhi looked completely at a loss. “I—I didn’t mean to—I—”
“Didn’t mean to? What about Boss Ma? And the theft?” Ruan Jianjun continued angrily, “Do you know what my father did back in the day? He was the captain of the reconnaissance battalion; he can see through everything!”
Hearing this, Zheng Xiuzhi felt utterly defeated, while Wang Fang’s cries filled the air but were of no use at all.
The commotion surrounding the Ruan Family was impossible to miss, especially for Su Mingxian, who lived right across the hall.
She felt a bit surprised.

Just then, the sound of the courtyard gate creaking open echoed through the silence, and she knew without a doubt who it was.
After dealing with the Ruan Family and learning everything from Fang Dahai, Shen Chi came straight over.
The sunset painted the sky a fiery red, casting a warm glow over the quiet courtyard where they sat across from each other in silence.
Shen Chi took a sip of tea and raised his gaze to meet hers. “I heard you thought I was dead?”
Su Mingxian nearly spat out his tea, then looked up in surprise, his eyes wide as he stared at him.
Shen Chi's lips curled slightly, a hint of coldness in his eyes as he toyed with the teacup in his hand.
"I heard you're looking for a Stepfather for my two children?"
