Su Mingxian listened, her face turning awkward. "Ahem, that's not true."
Though she said that, she wished she could find a hole to hide in. If she didn't understand what was going on, then she would be a fool.
So it turned out that Hou Tianzhen was Shen Chi's person; no wonder he could find her so quickly.
Shen Chi looked at her for a long moment before turning away. "In that case, come with me."
Su Mingxian instantly lifted her head. "Go with you? Where to?"
"Of course to my place. Where else could we go?" After saying this, he fixed his cold gaze on Su Mingxian. "Are you unwilling?"
"I—" Su Mingxian furrowed her brows, while Shen Chi narrowed his eyes. "You ran away from home and traveled thousands of miles to Shanghai, didn't you come to find me?"
Su Mingxian stared at him in shock. "You knew all along?"
Shen Chi glanced at her and then set down his teacup. "You caused such a commotion back home; I couldn't possibly not know."
Su Mingxian couldn't help but twitch her lips and licked them nervously. "Ahem, since you already know, there's nothing more to say. I don't regret it."
"And then?" Shen Chi continued to stare at her directly.
After a moment of shock, Su Mingxian took a deep breath. Just as she was about to speak, Shen Chi smiled. "It's been years, and your courage has certainly grown."
Su Mingxian looked utterly bewildered.
Shen Chi, with a furrowed brow, gazed at her intently and said in a deep voice, “You don’t need to worry about things back home; I’ve already taken care of it. You and the girls have suffered these past years, but don’t worry. As long as I’m here, you won’t be bullied again.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Su Mingxian's eyes brimmed with tears, her eyelids reddening as the tears began to fall uncontrollably.
With tear-filled eyes, she looked at the cold man before her. She had waited a lifetime for this moment; even in death, she had not received such words from him. Yet, just when she had decided to let go, they came unexpectedly.
Su Mingxian cried uncontrollably. She thought she was strong, that her heart was as hard as iron. But Shen Chi's words pierced through her defenses, revealing that all the grievances and wounds of the past years had never truly faded; they had always lingered.
Seeing her so heartbroken, Shen Chi’s expression softened. He sighed and reached out his hand. “Don’t cry—”
But Su Mingxian instinctively recoiled. She fought to hold back her tears, though her voice still trembled. “No need.”
“What do you mean no need?” Shen Chi asked, momentarily taken aback.
Wiping her tears away, Su Mingxian turned to face him with a smile on her lips. “I mean there’s no need to complicate things. I haven’t relied on you for the past seven years, and I won’t start now.”
Shen Chi’s expression gradually darkened as he processed her words. “What do you mean?”
“Let’s get a divorce.” Su Mingxian’s eyes were filled with tears, yet her demeanor remained calm. Shen Chi stared at her in shock. “Divorce? Because of that guy named Huang?”
His sharp gaze scrutinized his wife before him—her short hair framing a delicate face with dark eyes and red lips. Her almond-shaped eyes sparkled with clarity and emotion, still glistening with tears, making her even more beautiful than he remembered.
Yet, the gentle feeling that once lingered in her memory was gone. From the moment she saw him, there had never been a blush or a racing heart. Although her eyes were filled with tears, they were all sadness, distance, and indifference.
Divorce was something he had never considered. Could it be that she had truly changed her heart?
The thought of that boy with peach blossom eyes made Shen Chi's gaze grow even colder.
Su Mingxian let out a long sigh, her expression as calm as water.
"It’s not that," she said, raising her eyes to look at him indifferently. "Shen Chi, we were wrong from the very beginning. Divorce is the best choice for us."
