Noticing Su Mingxian's hesitation, Shen Chi gentlemanly placed the key on the dining table and said, "You three can share the big bed, and I'll take the simple bed."
"Is that really okay?" Su Mingxian asked, her expression a mix of embarrassment and satisfaction at Shen Chi's thoughtfulness.
Shen Chi raised his gaze, taking everything in. With a slight smile, he replied, "There's nothing to feel embarrassed about. I won't be here all the time."
"You all settle in first. I'll have someone look into things over there," he continued, pulling out a pen and paper. With swift strokes, he wrote down a series of numbers. "This is my contact information."
Su Mingxian reached out to take it, noting how strong and fluid his handwriting was—just like him: decisive and efficient to the point of being intimidating. Just then, a faint scent of tobacco wafted into her nostrils, and when she blinked again, Shen Chi had already moved past her toward the door.
"Hey—" Su Mingxian instinctively called out, immediately regretting it after the words left her lips.
Shen Chi suddenly turned around, his deep phoenix eyes locking onto hers. "Is there something else?"
His voice remained cold and devoid of emotion. Su Mingxian awkwardly chuckled, her hands clenched tightly as she stammered, "Um, well, since we've moved into a new place, we should follow the old tradition of warming up the kitchen. Plus, since you and Fang Dahai took time out of your busy schedules to help us, as a thank you... how about I treat you to dinner tonight?"
She forced herself to suggest this without expecting him to accept; it was just a customary gesture.
To her surprise, Qian Qian took it seriously. She rushed in from the living room and timidly tugged at Shen Chi's hand. "Daddy, can we have dinner together tonight? Mommy's cooking is really delicious!"
Shen Chi paused for a moment before narrowing his eyes at Su Mingxian. Just earlier she had been crying and demanding a divorce; now she wanted him to stay for dinner?
"Alright."
"What's wrong with you?"
After the person left, Su Mingxian felt incredibly frustrated.
On the other hand, Qian Qian was overjoyed. "Mommy, Mommy, Daddy said he would come back for dinner tonight!"
Su Mingxian twitched her lips and gave her a firm tap on the forehead. "I know, look at how happy you are, you little traitor."
Upon hearing this, Qian Qian immediately covered her head and made a face. "Mommy can't be mad at me! Besides, I didn't lie; Mommy just wants Daddy!"
"You dare to be stubborn? Take this!"
"Ah! Mommy, I was wrong! Hahaha, please forgive me this time!"
Soon, the room was filled with the sounds of playful scuffling, bringing a bit of laughter and joy to the cold home.
Shen Chi stood at the door, his hand poised to knock but then withdrew. He quickly walked downstairs instead.
Fang Dahai was in the car, anxiously checking the time. "Hey, Brother Chi Zi, you finally came down! If you don't hurry, we'll be late!"
Shen Chi silently got into the car while Fang Dahai looked at him with curiosity and joked, "What's going on? Have you fallen for the charms of a gentle woman so soon?"
Shen Chi shot him a cold glance. "Just drive."
Fang Dahai chuckled as he drove, saying, "But to be honest, I never expected Sister-in-law to be so beautiful and stylish. She's completely different from those women from the countryside. Brother Chi Zi, you really have an eye for talent."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "But about that guy with the last name Huang, should I—"
"You didn't notice he looks familiar?" Shen Chi interrupted him forcefully before he could finish.
"Huh? Familiar?" Fang Dahai blinked, appearing to ponder seriously for a moment. "Really? I didn't notice that at all."
