Beside his pillow lay a hardcover book, and he looked unwell and lacking in energy. Even with his eyes closed, the dark circles under his eyes were particularly prominent.
"Stop pretending, I know you're not asleep," Elena said, patting his exposed shoulder, leaving a few faint red fingerprints on his tender skin.
"Sss, be gentle." Maxim slowly opened his eyes, holding his bruised shoulder and complaining half-seriously.
Elena crossed her arms and leisurely watched him, and Maxim couldn't keep up the act.
He slowly sat up and stretched lazily.
"What's the matter that's worth your special visit to me?"
He spoke at a leisurely pace, his voice carrying a relaxing laziness, as if even the most important matters had to unfold slowly in his presence.
Elena carefully looked at Maxim for a moment, then bent down to take the book from his side, casually flipping through a few pages before turning the book to face Maxim.
"When do you plan to submit the manuscript?"
Her fingers pressed beneath the name Luna, subtly reminding her of who knew about this.
"What manuscript?" Maxim's gray eyes pretended to naturally shift from her face to the rose garden on the right.
"Don't pretend to be innocent with me. Luna even called me on the phone."
Elena pretended to be angry, pinching her waist, with the book pages clutched in her hand. The hardcover book swayed and stopped at her waist.
Three years ago, the Snowd Family had an unwritten rule.
Any information related to Elena must not be disclosed to anyone without her consent. So Maxim will give her personal contact information to this Miss Luna, which is quite intriguing. "Come clean, what is your relationship with Luna?"
Elena is really curious. She doesn't care about the reason Maxim left his contact information, but she wants to know what Maxim thinks of Luna. After all, this is quite complicated. Luna just said she's not single.
"It's just a work relationship." Maxim is obviously stubborn.
He didn't want to say, if Elena continued to press, it would be very impolite.
She shrugged dissatisfiedly, "Luna said that if you don't submit the draft before three o'clock today, she will come over and teach you a lesson. I think she can contact me, so she should also know our home address."
Elena Tilting her head with an innocent expression, she looked at her brother and said, "I'm quite satisfied with Luna, you know. If you really like her, I fully support you in fighting for her love!"
"Alright, stop teasing me."
Maxim His sickly face now looked quite angry, with his ears turning red.
Joking should be moderate, it's not good to really annoy someone.
Elena knows very well where Maxim's limit is, so she left him alone in the courtyard with a smile, while she took the signed book and went to the living room.
The original version of the book that MK hasn't released yet, only this one, it would be a pity not to read it.
At three fifteen, Elena had only read half of her book. She glanced at her phone, eagerly anticipating a call from Luna, but instead saw Maxim coming downstairs with a dejected look on his face, as if he had been completely drained of energy. "I want to quit the novel industry," he said.
He looked at Elena with lifeless eyes and blurted out, "Give poor Zachary a perfect ending first, then you can leave." Elena pointed to the novel in her hand. "Don't you feel sorry for me at all?"
Maxim Desperate roar.
Unfortunately, his voice was weak and lacked any convincing power.
Elena She didn't even bother to look at him, and happily went back to reading her novel.
It's not that she doesn't care, but every time Maxim finishes his manuscript, he always comes back with the same conversation. She's used to it. Elena thought she wouldn't have a chance to see the legendary editor again, but the next day, just before leaving, she saw Luna.
It's a bit different from what she guessed. Luna Li does look very serious, but her face is actually quite young. If she didn't say she was already thirty, Elena would have thought she had just graduated from college. "I am Luna Li, Mr. MK's exclusive editor."
Luna Li pushed up the black-framed glasses on her nose and said seriously.
There is an undeniable scholarly aura about her.
Elena smiled kindly and said, "Please come in. Are you here to catch Mark? I thought he looked like he had been emptied out yesterday, and I thought he had honestly turned in his manuscript."
"Oh yes, Mr. MK did submit the manuscript," Luna Li said expressionlessly, "but there's a last-minute press meeting tomorrow, and he's needed to attend." "I came here because this matter is related to publicity."
She didn't explain much, but Elena already understood.
She was here to confront someone.
Those familiar with MK knew that although he was capable in his novels, he often missed meetings and was a well-known author with social anxiety in the literary world.
God knows how much Maxim can talk at home.
"He's upstairs. Do you need me to call him down?" Elena had to admit, Luna Li is cool, she really likes this person.
