Under the cover of night, Liu Ying stealthily entered the Qintian Observatory's library. For days, she had been pondering a question: since Lord Xu Shu once served at the Qintian Observatory, there must be traces of the records regarding the Tianshi Market Camp Howl.
"Miss, what do you see here?" A Fu asked, holding up a candlestick and pointing to a dusty bookshelf.
Liu Ying approached for a closer look and noticed a small symbol carved into the edge of the shelf, strikingly similar to the patterns on the Bronze Mirror. She gently pressed the protruding part, and with a "click," the bookshelf slowly moved aside, revealing a hidden door.
"What...?" A Fu gasped in surprise.
"Shh," Liu Ying gestured for silence. "You stay outside and keep watch. If anyone comes, just say I have returned home."
The secret chamber was cold and damp as Liu Ying moved forward with the candlelight. The walls were adorned with Celestial Patterns, identical to those she had seen in the cave that day.
A Bronze book box lay quietly on the table, covered in dust. Liu Ying carefully brushed off the dust and discovered that nine copper rings were embedded at the mouth of the box, each capable of rotating to reveal different star symbols.
"What is this...?" Liu Ying concentrated, recalling the star arrangements her grandfather had taught her. Following the order of Tian Shiyuan's twenty-eight constellations, she began to turn the copper rings.
With a "click," the book box opened in response.
Inside was a stack of yellowed Notebooks, unmistakably in Xu Shu's handwriting! Liu Ying eagerly flipped through them, reading carefully by candlelight:
"The terrain of Tianshi Market Camp Howl is peculiar and corresponds with Tian Shiyuan. It is said that during Great Ancestor's time, an ancestor of the the Yu Family crafted a magical bronze mirror here that could deduce Tian Ji. However, this mirror could not withstand its burden and ultimately shattered into four pieces..."
Liu Ying's heart raced: wasn't this the very mirror she held?
"The the Yu Family has guarded this secret for generations until that Great Fire twenty years ago. I have discovered hidden mysteries within Tianshi Market Camp Howl; it seems someone is plotting something sinister. Today's sighting of Tai Bai is an ominous sign. I have hidden evidence in..."
The following words were blurred and indistinct. Just as Liu Ying attempted to decipher them, she suddenly heard A Fu's voice from outside: "Miss, be careful! Someone is coming!"
Liu Ying hurriedly tucked the Notebook into her bosom and turned to leave, only to find that the entrance to the secret chamber had been blocked.
"Indeed, you are here." A cold voice echoed. "The female official of Qintian Observatory dares to privately peruse confidential texts?"
In the candlelight stood Steward Xu from the Xu family. Behind him loomed two men in black, hands resting on their knife hilts, exuding a menacing aura.
Liu Ying's mind raced: " Steward Xu, your words are mistaken. I am the female envoy of Qintian Observatory; reviewing texts is my duty."
"And what about this?" Steward Xu sneered as he raised an object. Liu Ying focused her gaze and realized it was a torn page from the very Notebook she had just seen! Boldly inscribed were the words " Tianshi Market Camp Howl Confidential."
"Speak! What do you know?" Steward Xu advanced a step closer.
At that moment, an unusual noise came from above in the secret chamber. Steward Xu looked up, and Liu Ying seized the opportunity to take out the Bronze Mirror, reflecting its light into his eyes.
"Ah!" Steward Xu instinctively shut his eyes as Liu Ying darted past him.
"Catch her!" Steward Xu roared. The two men in black drew their knives and pursued her as Liu Ying sprinted away, weaving through rows of towering bookshelves.
Suddenly, a light flickered ahead, revealing A Fu holding a candlestick to illuminate the way for her.
"Miss, hurry! I'll hold them off!" A Fu exclaimed, preparing to throw the candlestick at their pursuers.
"No!" Liu Ying grabbed his arm. "We can't use fire in the library!"
Just then, the pursuers were upon them. In a critical moment, an arrow whizzed through the air and embedded itself in a bookshelf. The cloaked figures recoiled at the sight.
Seizing the opportunity, Liu Ying pulled A Fu and fled from the library. In the darkness of the night, she thought she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure darting past the eaves.
Could it be Xu Yuan? But he should be in the palace at this hour...
"Miss, look!" A Fu pointed at the arrow. A piece of paper was wrapped around its shaft, inscribed with the words, "Wait for the rabbit; the time is not yet right."
The handwriting... Liu Ying's heart stirred. Could it be that person?
