The mother-in-law, frustrated and disappointed, kicked him lightly and he finally reacted, “Mom, what’s wrong?” 0

She pointed at me, her anger palpable, “Your wife says the child won’t take your surname. Are you planning to cut off all ties?” 0

Wang Ye was stunned for a moment before responding, “Tian Tian, you’re joking, right?” 0

I shook my head, “I’m not joking. I’m serious.” 0

Wang Ye sat beside me, speaking gently and considerately, “Tian Tian, you just gave birth. You’ve been through a lot. I don’t want to argue with you. Please rest well.” 0

I looked at him coldly, “I’m going to the Postpartum Care Center.” 0

The mother-in-law’s expression darkened significantly. “Jiang Tian, what do you mean? Didn’t I say I’d take care of you during your confinement?” 0

I nodded, “You did say that, but you’re getting older and your health isn’t great. I think it’s better if I go to the Postpartum Care Center. Besides, I’m using my own money, so you don’t need to worry.” 0

My parents had left me some money, enough for a little indulgence. 0

The mother-in-law’s face grew even more sour. “How much money do you have to waste like this? The baby needs milk and formula; Wang Ye still needs to buy a house in a good school district. Everything costs money. You should save some; don’t come crying to us when you run out!” 0

I scoffed, “Am I asking you for money? Didn’t you all rush to take care of my confinement?” 0

The mother-in-law was momentarily speechless, her face shifting between shades of anger and disbelief. 0

Suddenly, Wang Ping appeared in front of us, waving her phone. “I just contacted the Postpartum Care Center. Sister-in-law, can you leave now? I can drive you there.” 0

The mother-in-law was taken aback. “You little brat, where did you get a car? Where did you get the money?” 0

Wang Ping pulled out a set of car keys. "I just bought a car." 0

Her mother-in-law was so furious she looked ready to explode. "Your brother needs money to buy a house in the school district, and you're buying a car? You've never been sensible, and you’re even worse now!" 0

Wang Ping retorted, "Just because my brother is buying a house doesn't mean I have to help him pay for it." 0

The mother-in-law turned on her heel and stormed off. 0

I urged Wang Ye to go comfort his mother, but he stood there frozen. 0

I sighed. "You should talk to your mom." 0

Wang Ye stood there, at a loss for words. "Tian Tian, I..." 0

Seeing him like this made my heart ache with a mix of bitterness and sadness. 0

In my past life, he had always been like this. 0

Even when his mother made things difficult for me, he would tell me to endure it, saying that his mother was getting old and I shouldn’t argue with her. 0

Whenever we fought, he would always try to smooth things over. 0

His usual line was, "You’re my wife, and she’s my mother. They’re both important to me; how can I choose?" 0

Wang Ye couldn't stand up to Wang Ping and was called away by his mother. 0

As I watched Wang Ping, I felt she had changed—there was something odd about her transformation, something indescribable. At least it seemed she was being kinder to me now. 0

I was still lost in thought when Wang Ping suddenly called out, startling me. "Sister-in-law, I'll go drive and take you to the Postpartum Care Center." With that, he left. 0

Wang Ping drove the new car he had just gotten, taking me and the baby to the Postpartum Care Center. 0

Although the daily fees here were a bit expensive, they were within Wang Ping's means. 0

Lin Zhao Di and Wang Ye arrived at the Postpartum Care Center shortly after and began to persuade me to go back. 0

"The environment here is terrible. They only serve one dish a day; can that really provide enough nutrition?" 0

Lin Zhao Di glanced at the food on the table, wrinkling her nose in disgust. 0

"This is even worse than what I cook. Sweetie, listen to me; let's go home. I guarantee you'll recover in half a month." 0

I smiled faintly. "My wound hasn't healed yet; the doctor said I should eat home-cooked meals." 0

Lin Zhao Di placed her hand on my shoulder and gently squeezed. "Sweetie, you're still young and don't understand these things. Wang Ping isn't your blood relative; spending her money isn't worth it. Once your confinement period is over, won't she come looking for you to settle the score?" 0

I couldn't help but scoff inwardly. 0

Lin Zhao Di was truly cunning; knowing she couldn't get through to Wang Ping, she tried to find a way in through me. 0

I nodded. "Mom, you're right." 0

Lin Zhao Di smiled. "Then why not go home—" 0

"I won't go home; I'm going to pay Wang Ping back now." 0

I transferred twenty thousand yuan from the family card that Wang Ye gave me to Wang Ping. 0

Lin Zhao Di immediately received a notification about the deduction on her phone. 0

She clutched her chest, her expression contorted in pain. 0

Feigning concern, I asked, "Mom, what's wrong?" 0

Lin Zhao Di gritted her teeth and replied, "I'm fine!" 0

Her words were almost squeezed out between clenched teeth. 0

Lin Zhao Di glared at Wang Ye, shoving him with force. "Which one will you choose?" 0

"Either you take Jiang Tian home and sit the month out," she continued, "or you divorce Jiang Tian!" 0

Wang Ye looked at Lin Zhao Di. "Mom, is it really necessary?" 0

Lin Zhao Di stared back, eyes wide. "Absolutely! Jiang Tian spent so much money; I just can't stand it!" 0

Wang Ye scratched his head. "Tian Tian, what if you…" 0

I smiled and replied, "Guess which one I would choose, Wang Ye?" 0
