Without having time to think, the Mutated Goat had already cornered Yang Mengfan.
It suddenly lowered its head, aiming its sharp horns at Yang Mengfan.
Yang Mengfan swiftly sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the attack, but the tip of the horn still grazed his arm, instantly staining the snow with blood.
"Yang!"
I cried out in anguish, wanting to rush over to help, but I found myself completely immobilized.
It seemed that Yang Mengfan heard my call; he glanced back at me, his eyes filled with determination and resolve.
Taking a deep breath, he hurled the Engineering Shovel at the Mutated Goat.
The Engineering Shovel arced through the air, striking the Mutated Goat's eye with precision.
"Hiss—!"
The Mutated Goat let out a pained wail as one of its eyes was blinded, blood gushing forth.
It thrashed its head wildly, trying to shake off the Engineering Shovel.
Seizing the opportunity, Yang Mengfan rolled to safety behind the Mutated Goat and then leaped up, mounting its back.
He tightly clamped his legs around the goat's neck, one hand gripping its horn while the other drew a dagger from his waist and plunged it fiercely into the goat's throat.
"Thud!"
The sound of the dagger piercing flesh was unmistakable, and the Mutated Goat let out a more anguished scream, struggling violently in an attempt to throw Yang Mengfan off.
Yang Mengfan clung desperately to the goat's neck, stabbing the dagger into its body again and again.
Blood splattered everywhere, staining Yang Mengfan's face and the pure white snow beneath them.
The brutal struggle between man and beast was horrifying to witness, sending chills down my spine.
Finally, the Mutated Goat's movements slowed, and it collapsed with a heavy thud, kicking up a cloud of snow dust.
Yang Mengfan rolled off the goat, gasping for breath.
He struggled to stand up, taking one shaky step after another toward me.
His body was covered in blood—his own and that of the Mutated Goat.
After subduing the Goat Monster, Yang Mengfan let out a long sigh and wiped the blood from his face.
He turned around and walked towards me, a hint of concern on his face as he tried to help me up from the ground. I struggled to rise but found my body aching all over, unable to muster any strength.
"Are you okay?" Yang Mengfan's voice was a bit hoarse as he asked with concern.
I shook my head, gritting my teeth. "I'm fine, not dead yet."
Just then, an unexpected change occurred! The Goat Monster, which had been knocked down by Yang Mengfan, suddenly let out a low growl and sprang back up from the ground.
It crouched low, its limbs spread wide like a drawn bow, ready to strike. I watched in horror as my heart sank, a chill running from my feet straight to the top of my head.
"Watch out!" I screamed desperately, my voice sharp and piercing with fear.
However, my warning came too late.
The Goat Monster moved with astonishing speed, darting towards Yang Mengfan like a bolt of black lightning.
Caught off guard, Yang Mengfan was violently knocked to the ground by it.
The massive body of the Goat Monster pinned him down, its sharp claws thrashing wildly, poised to tear him apart.
"Yang Mengfan!" I cried out in despair, my vision blurring with rage and fear.
I couldn't just stand there and watch him die! I didn't know where the strength came from, but I struggled to get up from the ground and stumbled forward.
I raised the dagger in my hand and thrust it fiercely at the Goat Monster.
However, my attack was like scratching an itch on a thick-skinned beast; it had no effect whatsoever.
It didn't even glance back at me. Instead, it swung a massive hand, swatting me away like a fly.
I crashed heavily to the ground, feeling as if my insides had been rearranged. My vision blurred, and a wave of metallic sweetness surged in my mouth. I struggled to get up but found that I couldn't even move a finger.
In my dazed state, I saw the Goat Monster open its gaping maw, revealing sharp fangs as it lunged for Yang Mengfan's neck...
Yang Mengfan's scream abruptly ceased, as if an invisible hand had choked it off.
His voice, still tinged with disbelief and terror, echoed in my ears, lingering long after it had faded.
I watched helplessly as the monstrous Goat Monster effortlessly tore apart Yang Mengfan's body, as if playing with a rag doll.
Warm blood spilled forth like blooming red flowers on the ground, creating shocking splashes of crimson.
Fear and despair overwhelmed me like a flood breaking through a dam, drowning me instantly.
My mind went blank, replaying the horrific image of Yang Mengfan's death over and over again.
I struggled to get up, stumbling as I ran away into the distance.
I dared not look back, fearing I would see the bloodthirsty eyes of the Goat Monster and its blood-soaked claws.
My legs felt as heavy as lead, each step draining every ounce of my strength.
My lungs burned with pain, and my breathing became increasingly rapid.
Behind me, the shrill cries of the Goat Monster grew closer, like the death knell echoing in my heart with each beat.
Just when despair was about to consume me, a vague figure suddenly appeared on the distant hillside.
I couldn't make out what he was doing, but in the next moment, I heard a whoosh by my ear as something zipped past me.
Immediately after, a sharp screech from the Goat Monster pierced the air.
Gradually, the cries of the Goat Monster faded away, replaced by an eerie silence.
I forced my exhausted body to keep moving forward.
Suddenly, my foot slipped beneath me, and I lost control, tumbling into a snowdrift. It felt as if every bone in my body was about to break from the impact. I let out a pained groan but found myself too weak to get back up.
