"What are you doing here? Didn't I tell you not to run around?"
Wang Yao's voice came from behind me, filled with accusation.
I turned around abruptly, only to meet her hollow gaze. It seemed shrouded in a layer of gray mist, devoid of any life or focus, as if she were looking through me to some distant and intangible place.
A chill swept through me, sinking my heart.
"I... I’m just..."
I stammered, but my voice felt as if it were being choked by an invisible hand, so faint it was nearly inaudible.
Instinctively, I hid the Engineering Shovel behind me, an inexplicable sense of unease spreading within me.
Wang Yao ignored my explanation, her eyes fixed on me with an expressionless stare, resembling a lifeless statue.
The air around us felt frozen, the silence terrifying, broken only by the howling wind echoing in my ears.
Suddenly, she reached out with her bony hand and grabbed my wrist with a grip so strong it felt like she intended to crush my bones.
"What do you have? Hand it over!"
Wang Yao's voice was chillingly cold, devoid of any emotion.
Her strength was astonishing; the pressure on my arm was excruciating, a sharp pain radiating throughout my body in an instant.
"Wang Yao, you're hurting me!"
Her hand clamped down on my wrist like a vice, rendering me immobile.
I felt as if my bones were about to be crushed, a searing pain radiating from my wrist.
I struggled desperately, trying to wrench my hand free from her iron grip, but her strength was overwhelming. I feared my wrist might dislocate.
"Let... let go..."
I managed to force out a few words, my voice trembling and nearly breaking into a sob.
Suddenly, Wang Yao yanked hard, and the Engineering Shovel in my hand was forcibly snatched away.
I slumped helplessly to the ground, a sharp pain shooting through my wrist as if my bones were about to snap.
Wang Yao held the Engineering Shovel, an eerie glint flashing in her eyes. She slowly raised the shovel above her head and then lunged at me with it...
I hurriedly tried to dodge, but Wang Yao was too fast, pursuing me like a specter.
My heart raced wildly, fear creeping up my spine and settling at the base of my neck.
"Don't run!"
Wang Yao's sharp command thundered behind me like a clap of thunder, making my eardrums ring.
I gritted my teeth and ran with all my might, wishing I could sprout two more legs.
But ultimately, I couldn't match her speed.
A sharp pain shot through the back of my neck, as if a massive stone had struck me hard.
Everything went black, and I lost consciousness.
When I awoke again, I found myself lying on a cold stone platform, my limbs tightly bound by heavy iron chains, unable to move.
I struggled to open my eyes and surveyed my surroundings.
It appeared to be a sinister altar, with blood-red runes painted all over the walls, emitting an eerie glow that felt like countless crimson eyes were watching me, sending chills down my spine.
I didn’t recognize any of those runes, yet I felt an inexplicable sense of overwhelming pressure, as if an invisible hand was gripping my throat, making it hard for me to breathe.
In the center of the altar stood a massive Bronze Cauldron, exuding a nauseating stench.
I struggled to sit up but found the chains too tight to budge.
My heart was filled with fear and despair; I had no idea where I was or what would happen next.
"What is this place? Why am I here?"
I murmured to myself, my voice trembling with a hint of tears.
At that moment, a heavy stone door not far away creaked open slowly with a "creak."
My heart leaped into my throat as I nervously stared at the door, feeling like a lamb awaiting slaughter, waiting for the judgment of fate.
A figure emerged from behind the door, and my pupils dilated in shock—it was Yang Mengfan!
He was truly alive. But how could he be here? What on earth was this place?
"Mengfan, please help me! I'm locked in!"
Yang Mengfan seemed not to hear my cries for help.
He stood quietly by the completely open door, motionless like a statue, his gaze seemingly piercing through the void, resting on some unknown point, as if waiting for something.
I struggled desperately to free myself from the restraints, but the chains tightened around me, causing sharp pain and making my breathing quicken.
Fear surged like a tidal wave in my heart; I felt as though I was about to suffocate.
Time passed slowly, each second stretching into eternity.
A faint sound of footsteps broke the heavy silence.
A young woman was slowly helping an elderly lady out from within the door.
In the dim light, I strained to make out the figure of the young woman, my heart racing suddenly.
That woman was Wang Yao!
My mind went blank, buzzing with confusion.
How could it be her?
What was she doing here?
What on earth is this place?
A series of questions swirled in my mind, leaving me more confused and terrified.
The old woman slowly approached me, her murky eyes glinting with an unsettling light.
"Don't be afraid, my dear. We won't take your life; we only wish to ask for a favor, just a little something from you," she said in a chilling tone that somehow felt eerily calm, each word piercing my heart like an ice pick.
Her cold laughter echoed in the room, sending shivers down my spine as if I had fallen into an ice cellar.
Wang Yao stood silently beside me, not uttering a word, merely watching me with vacant eyes. I couldn't discern whether her gaze held sympathy or indifference.
I wanted to speak, but my throat felt parched, and no sound emerged.
The old woman extended her bony hand, inching closer to me.
Instinctively, I wanted to recoil, but I was bound tightly by iron chains, unable to move.
Her fingers were icy and bone-chilling, like those of a corpse. When they brushed against my skin, a wave of nausea and fear washed over me.
Despairing, I shut my eyes tightly, unable to bear the sight of her grotesque face.
