After Hu Yuanji led the group of Tough Girls away, Li Lingfei finally turned to Yang Qianfan and said, “I really owe you my life for saving me just now. I would have been in serious trouble otherwise.” As she spoke, she adjusted her clothes and hair, which had been disheveled during the scuffle with the Tough Girls.
“Helping someone in need is what heroes do. Besides, we are both alumni of the same school; how could I not help you? There’s no need for thanks, my lady!” Yang Qianfan teased her in a playful, refined manner.
Li Lingfei found his pretentiousness amusing and couldn’t help but giggle. “You sound just like a Hero!” she said, raising her eyebrows playfully at him.
“Really? So my actions just now don’t qualify me as a hero in your eyes?” Yang Qianfan continued to flaunt his literary flair, his spirits high.
“Fine, you’re a Hero, you’re a Hero! But could you please stop calling me ‘my lady’?” Li Lingfei shivered at the term he used to address her.
“Then how about I call you ‘sister’ instead?”
“Definitely not ‘sister’ either.”
“Should I call you ‘big sister’ then?”
“Absolutely not ‘big sister’!” Li Lingfei stamped her foot in frustration.
“Surely you don’t want me to call you ‘wife’!” Yang Qianfan joked, taking advantage of the situation to tease her further.
At this, Li Lingfei nearly fainted. Her face turned bright red with embarrassment and anger as she stammered, “I... I’m not talking to you anymore.” With that, she shot him a glare and ran off.
“Hey, classmate! I was just joking! No need to take it so seriously!” Yang Qianfan called after her retreating figure.
Li Lingfei paused when she heard him calling out from behind, not continuing to run. She turned around and, standing a few steps away from Yang Qianfan, scrutinized him closely, taking in his handsome features, clear eyes, and his radiant smile that resembled sunshine. Suddenly, a wave of warmth surged within her, and her face flushed even more.
"Hey, have you eaten yet?" Yang Qianfan waved at her with a casual smile. "I'm really hungry now; it shouldn't be too much to ask for my savior to treat me to a meal, right?"
Upon hearing this, Li Lingfei was momentarily taken aback. The blush on her face instantly faded as she thought to herself, "What kind of person is he? Helping out just to ask for something in return?" But the truth was, he had indeed saved her. Even if she felt a thousand reluctances in her heart, she couldn't refuse him. Thus, she reluctantly agreed. However, Yang Qianfan's request for her to treat him wasn't because he was genuinely hungry; in fact, he had already had lunch. His true intention was merely to use this opportunity to get closer to her and fulfill his ulterior motives. Meanwhile, Li Lingfei remained oblivious to this and had no inkling of his real intentions.
They chose an unremarkable restaurant near the school for their meal, ordering two steaks and two glasses of juice. Li Lingfei hadn't eaten lunch, so she focused intently on her food without even lifting her head to glance at Yang Qianfan. On the other hand, Yang Qianfan was utterly captivated by the beauty before him as she devoured her meal. He gazed at her with admiration and couldn't help but start considering that if he truly managed to win Li Lingfei's heart this time, he would earnestly pursue a relationship.
"What are you staring at? Although this meal isn't very expensive, it will still cost me a week's allowance," Li Lingfei said when she noticed him lost in thought instead of eating. She felt quite distressed about it—not for Yang Qianfan himself but for the piece of beef on his plate.
"Oh, so your allowance is that little? If I had known earlier, I would have just asked you to treat me to a bowl of noodle soup," Yang Qianfan replied with feigned surprise, raising his eyebrows with a grin.
"Yes, so you better not waste it," Li Lingfei remarked, her gaze still fixed on the piece of beef on Yang Qianfan's plate.
"Don't worry; a hero won't waste food," Yang Qianfan declared as he began to eat with vigor alongside Li Lingfei.
"Do you usually refer to yourself as a hero?" Li Lingfei asked curiously while suppressing a laugh.
"Yes!" Yang Qianfan replied cheerfully. "I might have watched too many martial arts films!"
"Do your friends call you that too?"
"Of course! In their eyes, I'm a typical hero."
"Really?" Li Lingfei looked at him with a hint of skepticism.
"It's true. Because my eyesight is poor, they gave me the nickname 'Big Blind'."
Hearing his explanation, Li Lingfei couldn't help but laugh at his humor. She set down her knife and fork and scrutinized him, saying meaningfully, "You really are a strange person."
"Is that so? I really don't know if being called strange by a beautiful woman is a good thing or a bad thing," Yang Qianfan replied, also putting down his utensils and feigning a worried expression.
When Li Lingfei heard him call her beautiful, her face flushed again. "I can't really say whether this strangeness is good or bad, but so far, I've enjoyed our time together."
"Is that true? Then I am truly honored. You know, the most difficult thing in the world is to make others happy with one's every action," Yang Qianfan suddenly raised his glass and said with a hint of disappointment, "After chatting for so long, you haven't even told me your name, nor have you asked for mine. It's really disappointing." He finished with a wry smile and took a sip of juice.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I forgot to introduce myself." Prompted by Yang Qianfan's reminder, Li Lingfei immediately realized and solemnly introduced herself, "My name is Li Lingfei. As for your name, I've known it for quite some time." She rolled her eyes playfully, her expression genuinely adorable.
