"Chapter: You Really Should Die"
"Mm..." Qin Xi slowly opened her eyes, the sharp scent of disinfectant filling her nostrils.
The hospital room was eerily quiet, with only her presence. It was only when she glanced at the electronic calendar on the wall that she realized she had been lying there for three days.
Her throat felt dry and scratchy, an unbearable discomfort.
Qin Xi felt weak all over and struggled to prop herself up, reaching out with great effort for the cup of water on the bedside table.
Just as she grasped the cup, her entire body tumbled off the bed.
"Crash!" The cup shattered on the floor.
Qin Xi's hand was cut by the shards, blood oozing out in a rush, quickly staining her palm and creating a gruesome sight.
Suddenly, the door to the room swung open.
"Sister, you're awake!" A slender figure appeared before Qin Xi.
Startled, Qin Xi looked up to see Qin Zhiruo's delicate and charming face lit with joy as she reached out to help her. "Sister, why are you sitting on the floor?"
"Let go." Qin Xi tried to shake her off.
Qin Zhiruo caught a glimpse of a tall figure reflected in the cabinet behind Qin Xi, just entering the room.
She immediately spoke softly, "Sister, let me help you up first. We'll have the doctor check you properly afterward."
“Stop pretending!” Qin Xi pushed Qin Zhiruo away.
Despite her frail body and lack of strength, Qin Zhiruo stumbled backward, her face streaked with tears. “Sister, I didn’t mean it. Please don’t be like this. I just wanted to care for you. When you act like this, it makes me so sad.”
Qin Xi had long seen through the facade of weakness that concealed Qin Zhiruo’s cruelty. She retorted sarcastically, “Care for me? Then give me back my blood!”
“Sister, do you really not trust me? If I return your blood, will you believe me and stop resenting me because of Mu Jinhang?” Qin Zhiruo choked on her words, grabbing a shard of glass from the floor, ready to cut her wrist.
“Qin Zhiruo!” Mu Jinhang shouted urgently as he rushed in and snatched the shard from her hand, his face filled with concern as he checked for any cuts on her skin.
Qin Xi stared blankly at the man before her, instinctively reaching for his sleeve.
“Qin Xi, you really deserve this!” Mu Jinhang harshly brushed her hand away, lifting Qin Zhiruo into his arms and delivering a hard kick to Qin Xi’s thin shoulder.
“Ah!” Qin Xi cried out in pain as her back slammed against the hospital bed, darkness clouding her vision.
In that moment, all the memories flooded back: how he had forced her to donate blood to save Qin Zhiruo, even wanting to drain her completely…
Yes, she had sworn three years ago that she would no longer love this man and would stop entangling herself with him, becoming a joke in everyone’s eyes.
Letting go of someone she had loved deeply for two years was an immense pain for her.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down Qin Xi’s face.
Qin Zhiruo looked guilty. “Mu Jinhang, it’s all my fault. I made Sister so sad.”
“It's none of your business.” Mu Jinhang gently reassured her, but then turned to Qin Xi with a cold gaze. “Who are you pretending to be so weak for? Hah, do you think that by imitating Qin Zhiruo, I would feel sorry for you? Unfortunately, this pitiful act will only make people dislike you more! Compared to Qin Zhiruo, you're just a poor imitation!”
“Enough!” Qin Xi stubbornly lifted her head, desperately trying to ignore the pain in her heart. “Mu Jinhang, I don't need to learn from that hypocritical woman! Don't worry, I will do it—I will never cling to you again!”
The last words seemed to drain all the strength from Qin Xi's body, leaving her unable to stand.
It was laughable; after being hurt so many times, Mu Jinhang still had such a profound impact on her.
But she had to preserve the last bit of her dignity!
Qin Xi gripped the edge of the hospital bed tightly, trembling as she stood up, her hand gradually loosening its hold on the sheets.
On the stark white bed, glaring crimson marks were starkly imprinted, deeply shocking Mu Jinhang's eyes.
He suddenly squinted and realized that Qin Xi's right palm was covered in blood.
At that moment, Mu Jinhang felt an uncontrollable pang of pain in his heart.
