Chapter 14: She Is His Prey
A black BMW slowly drove into the Luxury Villa District.
This was a house that Ji Li had purchased before bringing Qin Xi and Ning Bao back to the country. It was highly secure and confidential, and he believed that Mu Jinhang wouldn’t be able to find it anytime soon.
Ning Bao was only four years old and had been frightened. Qin Xi had to hold him for a long time before he finally fell asleep peacefully.
“Your injury…” Qin Xi sat on the living room sofa, looking at Ji Li’s swollen lip, feeling both guilty and heartbroken. “I’m sorry; it’s my fault that you got hurt.”
“Fool, it’s not about blame,” Ji Li took Qin Xi's hand, his gaze gentle and affectionate. “I would do anything for you.”
Qin Xi didn’t respond to his words. She gently withdrew her hand and opened the medicine cabinet. “Let me help you with your injury. We have to attend the Charity Auction tomorrow night; we can’t let you go out looking like this.”
Ji Li's hand fell empty, and a sense of emptiness filled his heart as his expression darkened.
Qin Xi understood his feelings, but she couldn’t reciprocate them.
Five years ago, during the chaos of the earthquake, Ji Li had rescued her from the operating room and changed their identities, allowing them to live in France for five years.
She gave birth to Ning Bao in France, and if it hadn’t been for Ning Bao crying out for his father, she wouldn’t have pretended to be Ji Li’s wife.
Qin Xi was grateful to Ji Li, but that was all she felt. As for any other emotions, she didn’t want to deceive Ji Li.

This world-class Charity Auction was grand in scale, having been held for ten years, taking place in different countries each year and inviting people from various industries around the globe.
As night fell and the lights began to shine, Qin Xi walked into the hall of the Charity Auction, arm in arm with Ji Li, instantly attracting the attention of many.
She wore a fairy dress from this year's Dir Spring Summer Dream Collection. Her exposed collarbone was exquisite and beautiful, with sheer fabric fluttering around her, her figure swaying gracefully. Who would have thought that she was the same Qin Xi who had lost all face five years ago due to her entanglement with Mu Jinhang?
"How... how could it be her!" In the crowd, Qin Zhiruo clung to Mu Jinhang's arm, staring incredulously at Qin Xi as she slowly entered the hall. Even her meticulously applied makeup could not hide her panic.
"What's wrong with her? Shouldn't she be here?" Mu Jinhang squinted slightly, his deep gaze locked onto Qin Xi.

Qin Zhiruo desperately tried to mask her shock. "Mu Jinhang, don’t misunderstand. I—I’m just surprised. Is that really my sister? Or is it a woman who looks very much like her?"
She spoke with an unconscious urgency and panic, even letting go of Mu Jinhang's hand as she hurried toward Qin Xi, wanting to confirm if it was really her.
Qin Xi was quietly conversing with someone when she suddenly heard a familiar voice that she hadn't heard in a long time. "Sister... Sister, it's really you! So you're still alive! That's wonderful!"
Qin Xi frowned slightly, and as she turned her head, Qin Zhiruo grabbed her hand.
Looking at the feigned surprise on Qin Zhiruo's face, she instantly recalled the malicious and triumphant smile from five years ago when she leaned against Mu Jinhang. Anger surged within her.
"Slap!" Qin Xi pulled her hand away and slapped Qin Zhiruo across the face, sneering repeatedly. "Qin Zhiruo, how dare you still call me sister? It's truly disgusting!"
The sudden turn of events left Qin Zhiruo stunned, a clear handprint appearing on her fair face.
