Chapter 19: Chaos in the Hospital Room
The hospital room was quiet.
Qin Xi had not slept well all night, her mind constantly occupied with thoughts of Ji Li and Ning Bao. Since she hadn’t returned home last night, they must be very worried about her.
Especially Ning Bao, who needed her to coax him to sleep every night. She wondered if he had cried or fussed since she wasn’t there beside him.
As Qin Xi was lost in her worries, the door to the hospital room suddenly swung open, and Chairman Qin, Qin Madam, and Qin Zhiruo all walked in together.
Qin Madam immediately began to scold her. “Xi, how can you be so shameless as to steal your sister’s fiancé? Don’t you care about your reputation at all?”
Qin Xi was taken aback. “What do you mean by stealing a fiancé? I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t play dumb! If it weren’t for you, how would Mu Jinhang have proposed to break off his engagement with Qin Zhiruo?” Qin Madam’s finger nearly poked Qin Xi in the eye. “Now that you’ve grown up and think you’re independent, you forget the kindness of the Qin Family that raised you. You don’t know how to honor your parents and are competing with your own sister for a man…”
“Do you even deserve to be my parents? Besides, Qin Madam, you’re not even my biological mother!” Qin Xi interrupted angrily, her gaze shifting to Chairman Qin. “Chairman Qin, ask yourself honestly, have you ever fulfilled your responsibilities as a father over the years? Have you ever cared about me? You only have eyes for Qin Zhiruo; where is your daughter in your eyes?”
“Shut up!” Chairman Qin shouted in anger. “Don’t forget that your life was given by the Qin Family; you have their blood running through your veins! Even if you refuse to acknowledge it, I am still your father, and you must listen to me!”
He glared at Qin Xi coldly. “Mu Jinhang is your sister’s fiancé. You need to stay away from him; don’t force me to sever our father-daughter relationship!”
Qin Xi looked at the man she had always known as her father. Although she had long realized he never considered her his daughter, hearing him say those six words—severing their relationship—still caused a sharp pain in her heart.
From that moment on, she had only Ning Bao as her family.
Qin Zhiruo sobbed weakly, "Sister, I really love Mu Jinhang. Please don’t compete with me for him. I've been by his side for the past five years, and you already have Ji Li. How can you be so selfish as to take Mu Jinhang away from me?"
Listening to these accusations and complaints, Qin Xi felt utterly confused. These relatives, connected by blood, repeatedly stabbed her with their words, refusing to let go even after five years.
At that moment, Qin Xi missed Aunt Zhang and Zhang Shu dearly; they were the only ones who treated her like a daughter, caring for and protecting her. Unfortunately, they were long gone.
"What are you doing?" As the ward descended into chaos, Mu Jinhang entered with an icy demeanor, his cold gaze sweeping over the Qin family. "Get out! All of you!"
Chairman Qin's face darkened. "Mu Jinhang, how can you speak to your elders like this? I am your Uncle Qin..."
"Don't you understand human language?" Mu Jinhang coldly stared at him. "Bodyguards, get in here and remove these irrelevant people!"
"Remove" was essentially a euphemism for "kick out."
Chairman Qin, Qin Madam, and Qin Zhiruo had stormed in to confront Qin Xi but ended up being thrown out in disgrace.
Mu Jinhang turned to the bodyguards with a chilling tone. "If you let these chaotic people in again, you can consider yourselves dismissed!"
"Yes, yes!" The bodyguards broke into a cold sweat.
He had thought the Qin family was there to visit Qin Jie but was surprised to find them causing a scene in the ward. Fortunately, nothing serious happened; otherwise, given Mr. Mu's concern for Qin Jie, he would have surely dealt with them harshly.
The ward fell silent once more.
After such a commotion, Qin Xi missed Ning Bao even more and couldn't help but plead with Mu Jinhang again, "He's my only family. Please let me go out; I really want to see him."
Tears fell like broken pearls onto Mu Jinhang's hand, burning his skin and piercing his heart.
Did she really love the child she had with Ji Li that much?
Mu Jinhang's gaze was complicated as he gently wiped away her tears. "I can let you call that child, but I will never release you!"
