Qin Xi and Ning Bao moved into Mu Jinhang's villa.
Perhaps he had long anticipated that Qin Xi would compromise. By the time she arrived, the room had already been arranged according to her previous descriptions to Mu Jinhang. The entire space appeared warm and sweet, exuding a cozy atmosphere.
He had even specially prepared a children's room and a playroom for Ning Bao, with soft carpets on the floor to prevent any falls or injuries. His thoughtfulness was even more touching than during their romantic days years ago.
Unfortunately, Qin Xi had vowed five years ago never to love this man again.
No matter how well Mu Jinhang treated her, she could not forget the pain he had once caused her—the despair of lying on the operating table still haunted her heart.
"As long as you stay by my side, I won't force you to do anything else," Mu Jinhang said, holding Qin Xi tightly, feeling the warmth in his embrace. "Qin Xi, I will wait until you fall in love with me again."
"That's impossible," Qin Xi replied, a deep weariness etched on her brow.
Mu Jinhang felt a sharp pain from her words. Gripping her shoulders, he shouted, "Why is it impossible? I once thought I could never forgive your betrayal and wished for your disappearance, but now I regret it. Qin Xi, nothing is impossible if you just try to accept me..."
Qin Xi suddenly laughed.
It turned out that Mu Jinhang still believed she had betrayed him.
In reality, she had never had an affair with Ji Li; everything was merely a trap designed by Qin Zhiruo. How could Mu Jinhang trust that so easily?
"What are you laughing at?" Mu Jinhang stared at her intently.
Qin Xi shook her head in silence, too tired to explain again.
She had spent two whole years trying to clarify things, but he refused to believe her. Why should she waste her breath once more?
Thus, Qin Xi and Ning Bao settled into the villa.
She maintained a cold attitude towards Mu Jinhang, making every effort to ignore his presence and refraining from initiating any conversation with him.
As Mu Jinhang spoke to her, she would only respond with a word or two when pressed, otherwise pretending not to hear him.
This left Mu Jinhang feeling distressed and helpless.
He didn't know how to please Qin Xi enough to earn a smile from her.
Every day, Ning Bao would ask Qin Xi, "Mommy, where is Daddy? Why are we living in this bad uncle's house?"
The earlier altercation between Mu Jinhang and Ji Li at the flower shop had left Ning Bao with a very negative impression of Mu Jinhang, leading her to refer to him as the bad uncle.
Qin Xi forced a smile and replied, "Daddy is working in France. He'll be back in a while."
She thought that children have short memories and would stop asking about it soon.
Then she felt a pang of sadness for Ji Li.
After Ning Bao went to bed, Qin Xi stepped outside the villa and saw Mu Jinhang and the servants still searching for the diamond ring in the pool.
The ring was one she had thrown away.
Mu Jinhang had bought that pair of diamond rings at the Charity Gala, and after he slipped the women's ring onto her finger, she had angrily tossed it into the pool right in front of him.
Now it was late autumn, and the night air was cold.
Mu Jinhang had been searching for that ring in the pool since the afternoon, and even now at night, he still hadn’t found it.
He had been in the pool for over eight hours.
"Stop looking!" Qin Xi heard her voice tremble. "I was lying to you; I didn't throw away the ring."
In the pool, Mu Jinhang stood still, faintly catching a glimpse of a flicker of light glimmering in her palm.
He let out a sigh of relief. "At least it wasn't lost."
Qin Xi tightly clenched her hands, pressed her lips together, and turned to leave.
Back in her room, she opened her palm and stared blankly at the ring resting in her hand.
In truth, she had lost the original ring.
This diamond ring was merely another creation of hers from the past.
Even though she no longer loved him, why did she feel such heartache seeing him dive into the water time and again to search for the ring?
She even regretted being so impulsive as to throw it away.
No, she shouldn't be feeling this way about Mu Jinhang.
In the darkness of the night, Qin Xi sat on her bed and began to cry silently.
