Chapter 4: Annulment of Engagement
The Mu Family and the Qin Family have annulled their engagement!
When Qin Xi learned this news, the elders of the Qin and Mu families were storming towards the villa to confront Mu Jinhang.
"What do you mean by this? On what grounds do you unilaterally announce the annulment of your engagement with Qin Zhiruo?" Chairman Qin angrily threw the newspaper in front of Mu Jinhang. "This engagement was agreed upon by both families back in the day; you have no right to break it!"
Facing the aggressive Chairman Qin, Mu Jinhang sneered, "I am the one getting married; why shouldn't I be able to annul the engagement?"
"You!" Chairman Qin trembled with rage and turned to Mu Laoyezai. "Old man, you personally agreed to this marriage back then. Now that the Mu Family is thriving, do you look down on our Qin Family and no longer wish to honor your promises?"
"Calm down; let me ask Mu Jinhang first," Mu Laoyezai said, glaring at Chairman Qin with displeasure.
Qin Madam interjected, "What else is there to ask? It must be because of that vixen, Qin Xi! Oh, our poor Qin Zhiruo has always been in poor health, and just when she was about to get married, Qin Xi has to steal her fiancé. My heart aches for our Qin Zhiruo."
"Shut up!" Mu Jinhang shouted sharply. "If you dare say another word against Qin Xi, get out!"
Qin Madam fell silent under his icy gaze.
"Mu Jinhang, could you please not annul our engagement?" Qin Zhiruo pleaded with tears in her eyes, looking pitifully at Mu Jinhang. "I have liked you for so many years and have always treated you wholeheartedly. But my sister is different; she likes Ji Li. Have you forgotten about her affair with Ji Li?"
"Get away from me!" Mu Jinhang coldly brushed aside Qin Zhiruo's hand, a sarcastic smile playing on his lips. "You treated me wholeheartedly? Qin Zhiruo, do you think I don't know about all the indiscretions you've committed?"
“What do you mean?” Qin Zhiruo's heart raced.
Mu Jinhang turned to the butler. “Go to the study and bring me that document on the table.”
The butler complied and soon returned, respectfully handing Mu Jinhang a white envelope.
With a loud slap, Mu Jinhang threw the document in front of the Qin family without even looking at it. “Take a good look at what’s inside!”
The envelope spilled out a stack of photographs.
Mrs. Mu leaned in for a closer look and gasped, “What... what is this? Qin Zhiruo, how could you be involved with other men!”
In a panic, Qin Zhiruo grabbed the photos, her face paling as she realized they were intimate pictures of her with various men.
“These photos must have been edited! I’ve never done anything like this! Mu Jinhang, you have to believe me. I love you so much; how could I betray you like that…”
“I’ve already investigated everything thoroughly. You don’t need to pretend to be innocent in front of me!”
Mu Jinhang had once believed that Qin Zhiruo was deeply devoted to him, that she would never betray him like Qin Xi had. But now he realized this woman was even worse, having affairs with different men. Just thinking about it made him feel sick.
However, it was perfect; he needed an excuse to break off the engagement with the Qin family. Otherwise, Qin Xi would suffer by staying close to him.
When the time comes for Qin Xi to fall in love with him again, he will proudly marry her and make her the legitimate Mrs. Mu, rather than being labeled as a seductress.
The Qin Family, aware of their guilt, left in disgrace.
Sitting in the car, Qin Zhiruo clutched the hem of her clothes tightly.
Hmph, my dear sister, you returned and immediately caused Mu Jinhang to investigate me and demanded that I break off our engagement. I will not let you off easily!
Her once delicate features twisted into a fierce expression, her eyes glinting with malice.
