Chapter 0: The Agreement Between Two
Qin Xi curled up on the sofa, her pale complexion and sharp chin giving her an almost fragile appearance, as if she would shatter with the slightest touch.
Mu Jinhang had been restraining his feelings, not wanting to make Qin Xi dislike him even more. At that moment, he finally couldn’t hold back and pulled her into his embrace.
Qin Xi stiffened slightly but did not push him away.
Mu Jinhang's heart soared with joy. “Qin Xi, I…”
“Let me go,” Qin Xi suddenly spoke, her voice hoarse and choked.
“Are you still thinking about finding Ji Li?!” All of Mu Jinhang's joy was washed away, leaving only a torrent of jealousy and anger. He wished he could tear Ji Li, who was far away in France, into pieces!
“I don’t want to find him,” Qin Xi gently shook her head. “Don’t you understand? I can never love you again. I don’t love Ji Li either; I just want to stay far away from both of you and never see you again.”
She smiled sadly. “You’re all the same. You claim to love me but do things that cause me pain!”
“No! You can’t leave!” Mu Jinhang’s arms tightened around the woman in his embrace like entwining vines.
He deeply regretted it.
Why hadn’t he believed Qin Xi back then? Why hadn’t he investigated? In the end, a simple scheme had clouded his judgment with anger, leaving Qin Xi wounded and broken.
"You have no right to refuse me! How long do you plan to torment me?" Qin Xi cried uncontrollably, struggling desperately. "Mu Jinhang, let this be my last plea to you. Just let me go. I won’t return to France to find Ji Li. I don’t want anyone else; I just want to live a good life with Ning Bao."
As for the rights and wrongs, she no longer wished to pursue them.
Her pleading cries tightened Mu Jinhang's heart, making him feel utterly helpless, as if the wounds he had inflicted on Qin Xi were being reopened once more.
But how could he bear to let her go?
Mu Jinhang closed his eyes, swallowing hard. "Give me one more chance. Qin Xi, once I recover, if you still want to leave, I will let you go!"
Qin Xi was taken aback but then nodded. "Okay!"
With this agreement in place, Qin Xi felt a glimmer of hope and no longer resisted Mu Jinhang as fiercely. She took care of his injuries with great care, personally making soup for him every day. Sometimes, they could even chat like they used to.
Mu Jinhang understood the change in Qin Xi all too well; it brought him both joy and pain.
After half a month in the hospital, Mu Jinhang returned home to recuperate. The doctor made regular visits for check-ups, and each time, Qin Xi was present.
She hoped for Mu Jinhang’s swift recovery so he wouldn’t have to endure the hardship of sitting in a wheelchair every day. Yet deep down, it felt as if someone was struggling within her, wishing to stay by Mu Jinhang's side just a little longer.
The two cautiously maintained this rare and warm relationship.
Ning Bao no longer called Mu Jinhang "bad uncle." Sometimes he even willingly shared his comic book collection with him. Mu Jinhang would tell him about all sorts of interesting things in the world, leaving Ning Bao in awe.
Most of the time, Mu Jinhang's attitude towards Ning Bao was rather cold.
Ning Bao's existence constantly reminded him that she was the child born from Ji Li's despicable schemes that had caused his breakup with Qin Xi.
Qin Xi also knew that Mu Jinhang could not accept Ning Bao in his heart.
It didn’t matter; after all, she and Ning Bao would be leaving soon.
However, Mu Jinhang's right leg had not yet healed and was still encased in thick plaster.
The doctor had said that since the bone was injured, it would take at least six months to recover. If the healing did not go well, he might suffer from long-term complications.
Qin Xi was engulfed in deep anxiety and guilt.
If Mu Jinhang hadn't learned about Qin Zhiruo's plan first and rushed to find her, he wouldn't have been in such a condition. She should be the one sitting in a wheelchair now.
That night, Qin Xi couldn't sleep. She got up and walked out to the balcony, only to see Mu Jinhang standing there on the phone, pacing back and forth. Yet his right leg was clearly still in plaster!
