He is our child.
Ning Bao disappeared suddenly after school at the kindergarten.
At that time, the teacher had instructed the children to hold hands with their friends as they exited the school gate. Older students were also coming out, and despite the security personnel maintaining order, the entrance was still chaotic.
When a scuffle broke out at the school gate, the scene became even more chaotic. In just a moment, Ning Bao was gone.
Qin Xi felt weak all over, unable to stand steadily as she clutched Ji Li's hand tightly. "Quick, call the police! We need to report this! They can definitely check the surveillance footage!"
But just as Ji Li took out his phone to call for help, Qin Xi suddenly received a strange text message: If you dare to call the police, you will never see this child again!
Even though the sun blazed overhead, Qin Xi felt a chill run through her body, trembling uncontrollably.
"Xi, don't panic. Since they sent this message, it means Ning Bao is temporarily safe," Ji Li comforted her as he held her tightly. "They probably just want to extort money from us. Let's not call the police yet; we don't want to provoke them."
Qin Xi nodded vigorously. "Money is not an issue; as long as Ning Bao is safe, I would pay any amount!"
He took Qin Xi back to his villa and poured her a cup of hot water.
Holding the cup, Qin Xi felt the warmth seep into her hands, allowing her to relax somewhat and regain her composure.
"Xi, does Mu Jinhang know that Ning Bao is his child?" Ji Li suddenly asked.
Qin Xi was taken aback. "I haven't been with him, so I shouldn't know. What do you mean?"
Ji Li grasped her hand and whispered, "I don't mean to suspect him maliciously, but I remember that five years ago, when you were pregnant with Ning Bao, he wanted to kill Ning Bao."
Qin Xi's hand trembled, and hot water spilled from her cup, burning her fingertips painfully.
"That can't be... He's been getting along so well with Ning Bao lately. How could he possibly harm her?" She shook her head repeatedly, her face pale, and the knuckles of her fingers turned white from gripping the cup too tightly.
Ji Li frowned. "How can you trust him so much? Back then, he mistakenly thought Ning Bao was my child and forcibly tied you to the operating table to get rid of the baby. Now that I'm back in the country, do you think he would just sit back and watch our family of three reunite? If it weren't for Ning Bao's connection, you wouldn't be with me..."
"Stop it!" Qin Xi shouted as she covered her ears. She truly didn't want to believe that Mu Jinhang would kidnap a child. "These are just your guesses! I need to ask him directly!"
Ji Li embraced her. "I'll go with you."
The two drove to Mu Jinhang's villa, but the butler informed them that Mu Jinhang had gone abroad for an important trade conference and wouldn't return for about a week.
Qin Xi quickly tried to call Mu Jinhang, but the line was busy. She even called his secretary, but no one answered.
Ji Li said, "I've attended similar meetings before; during the conference, communication with the outside world is usually prohibited."
"What should we do?" Qin Xi became anxious again.
Ji Li reassured her, "Let's wait a bit longer and see if the person who kidnapped Ning Bao sends any more messages."
“What if he doesn’t send any news?” Qin Xi said anxiously.
Ji Li furrowed his brows tightly. “We’ll wait until tomorrow. If we still don’t hear anything, we’ll call the police!”
They had thought Mu Jinhang would take a week to return, but unexpectedly, he arrived at Qin Xi’s apartment in the middle of the night, looking exhausted.
There had been some issues at the trade conference, which led to an early conclusion of the meeting. After finishing up, Mu Jinhang received a call from the housekeeper and returned home that very night.
Seeing the weary man standing at the door, Qin Xi’s eyes suddenly turned red. “Mu Jinhang, Ning Bao is missing.”
“What?”
“Do you know? He is our child, yours and mine, and has nothing to do with Ji Li.”
