Chapter 8: The Uncompromising Madman
Qin Xi's phone fell during her escape, and she had no idea how things were on Mu Jinhang's side.
In the quiet, desolate night, she spotted faint lights in the distance. Despite her fear, she steeled herself and walked toward them.
When she reached the illuminated area, Qin Xi realized it was actually a Mental Hospital.
No wonder it was built in such a remote location.
Standing outside the fence, Qin Xi wanted to borrow a phone from the security booth to make a call, but suddenly two dark figures appeared beside her.
The shadows noticed her too. One of them rushed over and covered her mouth, fearing she might make any sound that would attract attention.

Looking closer at the person beside Zhang Shu, she was stunned to see Aunt Zhang!
Ji Li had clearly witnessed Zhang Shu and Aunt Zhang die in the earthquake. At that time, she had been suffering from severe morning sickness and was in poor health, so Ji Li had taken care of their affairs back home.

“For the past five years, Aunt Zhang and I have been locked up in that Mental Hospital, nearly tortured into becoming real lunatics,” Zhang Shu said, wiping away his tears. “If it weren’t for the thought of you still being out there, we wouldn’t have been able to hold on much longer. How could we have escaped?”
The family reunion happened in such a way that Qin Xi felt both joy and heartache.
Zhang Shu was calmer than Aunt Zhang and briefly explained what had happened years ago.
It turned out that after the earthquake five years ago, they hadn’t been harmed but had been unable to find Qin Xi.
The couple was very anxious, thinking that the Qin Family had deliberately hidden their daughter away from them, preventing them from seeing the girl they had raised with so much effort.

In response, Ji Li used his connections to have them committed to the Mental Hospital.
Over the past five years, Zhang Shu and Aunt Zhang had escaped three times, only to be captured and placed under strict surveillance each time.
Eventually, the two decided to feign madness to lower the guards' vigilance, and tonight they finally seized the opportunity to escape.
