Chapter 41: Entrusting My Life to You
Mu Jinhang moved swiftly.
Qin Xi had no idea how many people he had brought with him, but by the time dawn broke, Ji Li suddenly burst into the room.
"Xi, since you don't like it here, I'll take you somewhere else." Although his tone remained gentle, there was an urgency that was unusual for him.
Qin Xi guessed that he must know Mu Jinhang had arrived.
"Let's wait until Ning Bao feels better," she said, feigning calmness while her heart raced with anxiety. She couldn't help but wonder how things were on Mu Jinhang's side.
Ji Li didn’t give her a chance to delay; he grabbed her hand and headed outside, with bodyguards closely following them.
Qin Xi felt increasingly anxious.
As they reached the ground floor, Mu Jinhang had already stormed in with his men, surrounding the entire house. Every door and window was blocked by someone.
In an instant, the atmosphere became tense!
"Let go of Qin Xi!" Mu Jinhang glared coldly at Ji Li, his gaze sharp as an icy blade that pierced through the heart. "Ji Li, you can't take her away!"
Ji Li smiled and replied, "Then let's see about that!"
As soon as he finished speaking, both sides' bodyguards sprang into action.
Ji Li held onto Qin Xi's hand and quickly moved toward the door.
"Let go of me!" Qin Xi struggled fiercely, glancing back at Mu Jinhang repeatedly.
Mu Jinhang pursued closely behind.
Ji Li found himself blocked at the door once again.
“Mu Jinhang, don’t push me!” Ji Li's gentle face twisted into a semblance of madness, an aura of terrifying hostility radiating from him that made Qin Xi shiver involuntarily.
“What will you do even if I push you?” Mu Jinhang stepped closer, inching forward. “Just let Qin Xi go, and I’ll let you leave. Otherwise, you won’t even make it out that door!”
“Is that so?” Ji Li suddenly curled his lips into a smirk.
In the next moment, he raised his hand, the dark muzzle of the gun aimed straight at Mu Jinhang. “If you take another step forward, don’t blame me if this gun goes off!”
“Ji Li, you’ve lost it! Are you really going to kill him?” Qin Xi shouted anxiously, her eyes fixed on Ji Li’s hand, terrified he might pull the trigger at any moment.
“Murder isn’t a crime on this island,” Ji Li replied coolly. “Mu Jinhang, don’t think I’m joking. You can test it if you don’t believe me.”
Qin Xi quickly shook her head at Mu Jinhang. “Don’t come any closer! Please, don’t come any closer…”
But Mu Jinhang continued to advance.
Bang! Bang!
Bullets whizzed past his feet.
“Mu Jinhang, don’t move! Don’t come any closer!” Qin Xi shouted uncontrollably.
She trembled all over, her voice shaking. “Ji Li, don’t shoot! I’ll go with you! I’ll go with you right now!”
“No!” Mu Jinhang clenched his fists, staring fiercely at her. “I won’t let you leave with him!”
“I don’t even like you! I’m going with him willingly. What right do you have to interfere with my freedom…” Qin Xi fought back tears but choked on her words, unable to say anything more.
“Then you definitely can’t leave with him; otherwise, what if you end up liking me?”
“That’s enough!” Ji Li closed his eyes for a moment, suppressing all the pain within.
He gripped the gun tightly, aiming it at Mu Jinhang’s chest. “If you’re so eager to die for her, I can grant your wish.”
He was about to pull the trigger.
“No!” Qin Xi didn’t know where she found the strength, but she broke free from Ji Li's grasp and lunged in front of Mu Jinhang.
Unexpectedly, the gunshot did not sound.
The air was deathly silent.
She heard Ji Li’s gentle yet bittersweet voice: “Xi, I will let you go.”
Qin Xi turned back in disbelief and saw Ji Li throw the gun to the ground. He looked at Mu Jinhang and said, “Xi is willing to give her life for you; what reason do I have to keep her?”
He stared deeply at Qin Xi for a moment, then turned and slowly walked away.
Mu Jinhang did not stop him.
The sunlight stretched his shadow long and lonely on the ground, leaving behind a desolate silhouette…
