Chapter 4: I Never Considered Marrying Him
Ji Li left.
Qin Xi had no idea where he went or how to face him.
When she returned to the country, she received a strange email with only five words: "Xi, I'm sorry."
After hesitating for a moment, Qin Xi called Ji Li.
The cold, mechanical voice on the other end of the line said, "Sorry, the number you dialed is not in service..."
Shortly after, Qin Xi received a substantial transfer of assets, including shares in K Group and three villas both domestically and internationally, one of which was the luxurious villa Ji Li had purchased.
Unable to reach Ji Li, it seemed he had vanished without a trace in just a few days, leaving behind only a message: "I'm fine; you don't need to worry about me."
Mu Jinhang, upon learning this, felt jealous and remarked, "If you have time to worry about him, you might as well care about me a little more."
He had thought that after Ji Li's departure, he could freely be with Qin Xi, but instead, her attitude towards him became lukewarm. Even Ning Bao showed little interest in his presence as her biological father.
"You have so many people who care about you; I'm just one less," Qin Xi said as she focused on sketching her designs.
This feeling of being brushed off made Mu Jinhang uneasy. He decided to confront Qin Xi directly and even sought a breakthrough through Ning Bao, but unfortunately, it yielded little result.
Faced with this situation, he felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness and frustration, unsure of where the problem truly lay.
The news of Mu Jinhang pursuing Qin Xi reached Mrs. Mu's ears, making her so furious that she couldn't even eat dinner.
That morning, Qin Xi was busy in her studio when her assistant rushed in, flustered. "Sister Xi, Mr. Mu's mother is here to see you. She seems quite aggressive and not someone to be trifled with!"
"Please ask her to come to my office," Qin Xi replied with a smile.
Before long, Mrs. Mu entered with an elegant stride.
The two had met before at the hospital, where Mrs. Mu had a poor impression of Qin Xi, believing that she was responsible for Mu Jinhang's car accident.
If it hadn't been discovered later that the accident was orchestrated by Qin Zhiruo, Mrs. Mu would likely have despised Qin Xi even more.
"I assume you know why I'm here, so I'll get straight to the point to avoid wasting our time," Mrs. Mu said as she sat down across from Qin Xi. Her assistant poured her a cup of coffee and then quietly exited.
Once outside, the assistant called Mu Jinhang.
Unaware that her assistant had been bribed by Mu Jinhang, Qin Xi smiled at Mrs. Mu and said, "I'm sorry, but I truly don't know your intentions. Please feel free to speak openly."
"In that case, I might as well tell you," Mrs. Mu said, lifting her chin slightly in a show of arrogance. "Qin Jie, listen carefully. I will never allow you to marry Mu Jinhang. You can forget about ever stepping into the Mu family’s door."
She expected to see disappointment or flattery on Qin Xi's face, but instead, Qin Xi merely smiled gently and replied, "I understand; I never intended to marry him."
Mrs. Mu was taken aback. "Then what do you want? Are you after shares in Mu Group? Let me tell you, don't harbor such delusions!"
"I have no intention of gaining anything from Mu Jinhang," Qin Xi stated calmly.
Having gone through so much, she was already very tired and just wanted to live a quiet life with Ning Bao, free from the troubles of love that only brought about more conflicts.
Yet, she had to admit that she still loved Mu Jinhang.
But what did love matter?
As Mrs. Mu had said, the Mu Family needed a marriage partner of equal standing, someone who could support Mu Jinhang in his career.
If Qin Xi were to marry into the family, it would only bring suffering to Ning Bao, subjecting her to ridicule and mockery from the members of the Mu Family.
How could she bear to let Ning Bao suffer?
After finishing her call, Mrs. Mu stood up and walked outside.
As soon as she opened the door, she found Mu Jinhang standing there with a blank expression on his face.
He had heard Qin Xi say that she never intended to marry him.
