As the two chatted, they realized it was almost noon, and each returned home with excitement in their hearts.
Upon arriving home, Jin Liang went straight to Sister-in-law's room. Zhao Lihong looked up and blushed when she saw him. "Why are you back so late after dropping off your brother?"
"Sister-in-law, I have something to tell you," Jin Liang said as he recounted the events of the morning with Xiao Lei.
Zhao Lihong was taken aback. "How could this happen? But it’s a good thing that you and your brother will have to be more discreet from now on."
"Once Xiao Lei tells Mom, we can separate at home. How great would that be?" Jin Liang said happily.
"That would be wonderful," Zhao Lihong replied, playfully poking Jin Liang on the head with her delicate finger.
In his excitement, Jin Liang suddenly hugged her curvaceous body. Just then, they heard Zhen Yujuan calling from outside, "It's time to eat!"
It turned out that Jincun had just gone out, and the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law had been discussing having meals together in the future. Otherwise, it would be inconvenient for Zhao Lihong to cook while taking care of the children.
"Jin Liang, why are you in your sister-in-law's room?" Zhen Yujuan asked as she saw them coming out together.
"Oh, I just came back after dropping off my brother and wanted to say a few words to Sister-in-law," Jin Liang quickly replied, thinking to himself that soon he wouldn’t have to lie anymore.
Chapter 7
Xiao Lei returned home at half past eleven. He saw his grandparents and father having lunch but noticed that his mother, Xiao Cai, was not there. He figured she must still be out.
“Let’s eat, Xiao Lei,” Dad called out.
“Okay,” Xiao Lei replied, then went to the kitchen to bring out the food. He sat at the table, eating while thinking, Why hasn’t Mom come back yet? She promised me this afternoon that we would go to the woods.
“Xiao Lei, what did Jin Liang want with you this morning?” Grandpa asked.
“Oh, Brother Jincun went out to work this morning, and I went to see him off,” Xiao Lei hurriedly explained.
“Why didn’t Jincun tell us he was going to work out of town?” Kehu said.
“It’s good for him to go out; you can earn money outside. Staying at home won’t lead to much success,” Grandma remarked.
They chatted while eating, and after a while, they finished their meal. Seeing that Mom still hadn’t returned home, Xiao Lei went back to his room to lie down and rest for a bit. He could afford to relax; after all, he was going to do some physical activities in the woods with Mom in the afternoon.
Lying on his bed, he thought about how charming it was when he and Mom did those things together. He remembered how she called out earlier and what she had said to Jin Liang this morning. The more he thought about it, the happier and prouder he felt, and before he knew it, he drifted off into a light sleep.
When he woke up, it was already past two in the afternoon. He quickly got up and went outside to ask, “Grandpa, has my mom come back yet?”
Grandpa, who was shucking corn in the yard, replied, “Not yet.”
Hearing this made Xiao Lei anxious. Why hadn’t they returned by this time? He hurriedly went outside to wait.
Meanwhile, Hu Xiuying and her daughter were in the city, wandering around the market. Xiao Cai hadn’t been to such a lively market in a long time and even bought a piece of clothing for herself. She wanted her mom to buy another one for her, but Hu Xiuying was reluctant to spend the money and decided against it. Around noon, they ate noodles at a noodle shop. Hu Xiuying thought about heading back home, but Xiao Cai wasn’t done shopping yet and insisted on visiting more stores. Reluctantly, Hu Xiuying accompanied her. By the time they were shopping around, it was already past one in the afternoon. Remembering that she still needed to go to the woods with Xiao Lei later, Hu Xiuying felt a bit anxious and said to Xiao Cai, “Xiao Cai, it’s getting late; let’s head back.”
"Mom, can we play for another half an hour?" Xiao Cai wasn't done exploring yet.
