After finishing dinner, I felt a bit uncomfortable being with Jin Can Can, so I made an excuse to step outside. 0

As soon as I reached the door, I noticed the ground was covered in a thick layer of slime. A chill ran down my spine at the sight. It seemed that last night was not just my imagination; countless creatures had crawled past my doorstep! Judging by the slime trail, it must have been those Apple Snails, and they were not small—at least the size of a fist! 0

The thought sent shivers through me. Why were there so many Apple Snails at my front door? And Jin Can Can had been right there last night; did she really know nothing? Or were those Apple Snails drawn to her? 0

I dared not think further. Swallowing hard, I returned inside, feeling restless. Lying on my bed, staring at the ceiling, my mind began to race. What was Jin Can Can's true purpose for being here? Was she really Lin Kai's cousin? And were those Apple Snails somehow connected to her? 0

I spent the entire afternoon in turmoil, even ignoring Jin Can Can when she called me for dinner. By evening, I finally made up my mind. Tomorrow, I would go find Lin Kai and ask him about this cousin of his—what was her real story? 0

The night felt endless, especially when my mind was troubled. Just when I thought I might go crazy from holding it all in, I heard a rustling sound at the front door again. 0

The moment I heard it, I jumped out of bed without even putting on my shoes and rushed barefoot to the door. The sound quickly faded away, leaving me to wonder if I had imagined it. 0

At that moment, my door was suddenly flung open, and I screamed in fright once again. 0
“It’s me.” Jin Can Can was startled by my reaction, causing the bowl in her hand to drop to the floor. 0
“Jin Can Can, you scared me to death!” I clutched my chest and let out a long sigh of relief. 0
I quickly bent down to pick up the shards on the ground, feeling a bit embarrassed as I glanced at her. 0
“What’s wrong? You didn’t eat dinner, so I specially brought this for you,” Jin Can Can said, looking at me with confusion. 0
“Oh, it’s nothing, just feeling a bit unwell,” I laughed awkwardly, trying to mask my inner fear. 0
“Okay.” Jin Can Can nodded and continued watching me clean up the pieces. 0
I could sense that when she looked at me, her eyes were filled with unspoken words. 0
“What’s up?” After finishing picking up the shards, I looked up at her. 0
“Wang Yuan, do you think I’m pretty?” Jin Can Can hesitated for a long time before finally asking. 0
“Um, you’re very pretty,” I replied, scratching my head in confusion. 0
“Then why did you…” Jin Can Can began to say as her hand climbed onto my shoulder. 0
I instinctively pushed her away. 0
“Jin Can Can, even though it’s just the two of us here right now, you’re a girl and should consider your reputation,” I said earnestly. 0
“Oh! Is that so?” Jin Can Can stared at me blankly for a moment before leaving. 0
As she stepped out, I heard her murmur softly, “If only you had been here back then.” 0
The voice was too quiet; I wasn’t sure if I had misheard it. 0
Early the next morning, I hurried over to Lin Kai’s house. 0
As I ran, I prayed in my heart that I was just overthinking things. 0
However, things turned out to be beyond my expectations. 0
Lin Kai’s house was already surrounded by people; I grabbed Xiao Hu next to me and asked what had happened. 0
“Lin Kai’s house was attacked by Apple Snails,” Xiao Hu said with a look of terror on his face, his voice trembling slightly. 0
“Apple Snails?” I looked at him in confusion. 0
