Around eight o'clock, villagers of all ages gathered at my home. uncle Zhang glanced at Hui Kong with a respectful expression.
" Master Hui Kong, we are truly grateful for your help in clearing those fish scales yesterday," he said.
Hui Kong waved his hand dismissively. "It's nothing."
"Which family in the village has White Lime?"
uncle Zhang paused for a moment. "My family has some. If you need it, I can have someone fetch it for you right now."
Hui Kong nodded. "Make it quick; I need it urgently."
By the time uncle Zhang returned with the White Lime, Hui Kong had already led the villagers to the cemetery. I hurriedly followed them outside.
The cemetery was not far behind my house; it took just a few minutes to reach it. Hui Kong surveyed the densely packed graves, his expression serious.
"Sprinkle the White Lime on these graves," he instructed.
The villagers exchanged glances, then began to sprinkle the White Lime as directed. Soon, the entire cemetery was covered with it.
Hui Kong nodded in satisfaction. "Now everyone take three incense sticks and place them at each grave."
Although the villagers were puzzled, they complied without question. Before long, every grave had incense sticks inserted into it.
Hui Kong scanned the area, his gaze finally settling on one particular grave.
"This is the one," he said.
uncle Zhang hurried over. " Master Hui Kong, is there something wrong with this grave?"
Hui Kong nodded gravely. "There is a mother bug of the Mermaid Curse in this grave; the others are all larvae."
"Remove the incense from the other graves, then dig this one up," instructed Hui Kong.
The villagers did not dare to hesitate and quickly got to work. At first, everything seemed normal, but halfway through, an unexpected change occurred. The soil on the surface of the grave began to writhe.
The villagers were startled and dropped their shovels.
"What... what's happening to the soil?"
"Could there be some kind of monster hidden inside?"
"What should we do now?"
Hui Kong's expression turned serious. "Don't be afraid, keep digging."
"Under this soil lies the mother worm. Once we dig it out and sprinkle White Lime on it, they won't survive."
Although frightened, the villagers gritted their teeth and continued digging at Hui Kong's words. Soon, a pit was uncovered.
Inside the pit, countless Gu Worms writhed, sending chills down their spines. The villagers had never witnessed such a scene before; they collapsed in fear, unable to utter a word.
Hui Kong shouted urgently, "What are you waiting for? Quickly sprinkle the White Lime in!"
"If those Gu Worms crawl out, everyone in this village will die."
Upon hearing this, the villagers panicked and disregarded their fear, grabbing the White Lime and throwing it into the pit. As soon as the White Lime touched the worms, a cloud of black smoke billowed up.
The pit emitted a rustling sound that was spine-chilling.
Hui Kong reminded them, "It's best to burn these Gu Worms."
"Otherwise, they will always be a disaster."
uncle Zhang hesitated slightly. "Isn't this... not quite right? After all, this is our ancestral grave."
Hui Kong let out a cold snort. "Cutting the grass without removing the roots, and the spring breeze will bring it back."
"You should understand this better than I do."
uncle Zhang gritted his teeth. "Burn it."
As soon as the words left his mouth, someone threw a spark into the pit.
The flames roared to life instantly.
I watched everything unfold before me, feeling a wave of melancholy wash over my heart.
This is humanity.
Selfish and self-serving; no one would mention how my sister died.
As long as they could survive, they were capable of committing any heinous act.
It was truly pitiful and tragic.
