Wu Rong had no expertise in treating wounds, and seeing that the injury wasn't deep, he couldn't discern how it had happened.
"How could you be so foolish?" Wu Rong complained, though his gaze was filled with concern. "Does it hurt now?"
Rao Jie felt a sense of comfort and replied, "It doesn't hurt if I don't touch it."
Wu Rong wrapped his arms around Rao Jie as she sat down, but he couldn't help glancing at her wound, feeling a mix of discomfort and worry.
Nestled in Wu Rong's embrace, Rao Jie hesitated for a moment before speaking up. "When I went home this time, my parents want me to stay there."
"No way," Wu Rong responded immediately, as if he had heard an impossible suggestion.
Rao Jie chuckled awkwardly. "They're just considering our reputation. They don't oppose our relationship, but living together right now seems inappropriate. I've thought about it; I spend most of my time at school and the dessert shop anyway, and I only go home to sleep at night."
At this point, Wu Rong finally frowned and helped Rao Jie sit up. "When did we start living together? You won't even sleep with me every day; how can that be considered living together?"
Seeing Wu Rong's barely contained anger, Rao Jie swallowed hard and said, "Even sharing the same house doesn't seem right. It's only temporary anyway; I might have to go somewhere else to study pastry soon. I..."
"No!" Wu Rong's tone suddenly turned serious. "Did you agree to this?"
Rao Jie paused, hesitating before nodding. "I don't think it will have much impact. Besides, it's my parents' suggestion. I still need to discuss my future plans with them; it's better not to escalate any conflicts."
Wu Rong's expression darkened. "What do they matter? You can live your life however you want; just inform them about it. They didn't care before, but now they act like they're responsible for your decisions. Don't you think that's too late? Rao Jie, you're too easily swayed by others."
Wu Rong was genuinely angry, and Rao Jie could sense it. "What do you want me to do? Ignore their opinions? This isn't about breaking us apart; it's just a legitimate request from my parents. Why should I refuse? Our family dynamics are different; not many parents are as open-minded as yours. Most children still have to listen to their parents until they get married."
Without thinking twice, Wu Rong said, "Then let's get married."
Rao Jie paused in surprise; she didn't want to discuss such a serious topic at this moment.
"Wu Rong, this is only temporary—at most one semester, or even less than that. Once I finish my thesis, I can go elsewhere. As long as I'm not in Yun Cheng, I won't need to stay at home anymore. We..."
"Not even for a day!" Wu Rong stubbornly interrupted her explanation.
Rao Jie felt a sense of frustration; she realized that arguing with him was futile. She had so many concerns that he simply couldn't understand. Unlike Wu Rong, who seemed carefree and focused on his happiness, she could only strive to maintain balance and avoid creating more complications between them.
Knowing that arguing wouldn't work, Rao Jie decided to soften her approach and pleaded gently.
But even trying to kiss him didn't change his mind; Wu Rong was resolute in not letting her go and showed no signs of relenting.
To Wu Rong, it made no sense to care about how Rao Jie's parents treated her.
However, for Rao Jie, they were still her biological parents; she couldn't afford to sever ties with them entirely over personal grievances.
