Chu Sheng looked at the Black Ability Orb in his hand, its eerie glow flickering under the dim streetlight, resembling something sinister that made him uneasy. The invitation from Heishan sect seemed suspicious; it was likely not a good sign.
“Lin Yue, you should head back,” Chu Sheng said, shoving the Ability Orb into his pocket with a stern tone.
Lin Yue looked worried. “Where are you going?”
“Nothing much, just handling some personal matters,” Chu Sheng forced a smile, not wanting her to worry.
As he watched Lin Yue walk away, Chu Sheng immediately activated his Rapid Ability, darting into the night like a gust of wind. The masked man had only left a short while ago; perhaps he could still catch up.
The city was far from quiet at night, with vibrant neon lights flashing all around, dazzling to the eyes. Chu Sheng weaved through the streets like a ghost, silent and unseen. The Merit Book in his mind buzzed, as if reminding him of something important.
Suddenly, a shadow flashed past around the corner. Chu Sheng squinted; that familiar aura belonged to the masked man he had just seen!
“Gotcha,” Chu Sheng smirked, slowing his pace and trailing from a distance.
The Masked Man walked slowly, occasionally glancing back. Chu Sheng was prepared; whenever the man turned around, he slipped into the shadows, holding his breath. He had been a hitman before and knew all about stalking.
Suddenly, the Masked Man stopped and looked around cautiously. Chu Sheng quickly hid behind a utility pole, his heart racing. This guy was quite alert; no wonder he was part of Heishan sect.
A cold wind swept by, rustling the fallen leaves on the ground. The Masked Man stared in one direction for what felt like an eternity before turning to continue walking.
Chu Sheng let out a sigh of relief; sweat beaded on his forehead. This guy was sharper than he expected.
After following for nearly half an hour, the Masked Man finally stopped in front of a dilapidated warehouse. Chu Sheng hid around the corner, watching as he entered a password and pushed open the iron door of the warehouse.
Once the Masked Man went inside, Chu Sheng quietly approached the entrance. Just as he reached the door, a wave of sinister energy surged toward him, causing him to shiver. This energy felt eerie, reminiscent of the dark mist he had encountered earlier.
Activating his Truth Ability, Chu Sheng's vision pierced through the walls, allowing him to see clearly inside. The warehouse had been transformed into a secret base, with a dozen or so figures in black gathered together, seemingly engaged in some sort of ritual.
The most striking feature was a black altar in the center of the warehouse, upon which floated dozens of Ability Orbs, exuding an evil aura. Chu Sheng immediately recognized them as the same objects that the Masked Man had given him earlier!
With his dream control Ability activated, Chu Sheng's consciousness turned into a stream of air and slipped into the warehouse. He could hear the black-clad figures speaking clearly.
“How is the plan progressing?” asked a cold voice.
“Everything is going smoothly; many warriors have used our Ability Orbs,” the Masked Man replied respectfully. “Today we even discovered a potential candidate.”
“Very good. Continue to expand our influence. When the time is right, we will strike at the Warrior Association.”
“What about Lin Yue?”
This mention made Chu Sheng's heart skip a beat. Lin Yue? How did she get involved with Heishan sect?
At that moment, a powerful wave of energy emanated from deep within the warehouse. Alarm bells rang in Chu Sheng's mind as he immediately cut off his dream control Ability. He sensed that someone formidable was approaching, and the oppressive feeling made it hard for him to breathe.
“This is bad!” Without hesitation, Chu Sheng activated his Rapid Ability and dashed away like lightning. Behind him came a cold snort; it seemed that someone had noticed something but did not pursue him.
After running several streets away, Chu Sheng finally stopped, leaning against a wall and gasping for breath, his back soaked through with sweat.
The discoveries of the night were far more serious than he had anticipated. Heishan sect was not only secretly distributing the evil Ability Orbs but also planning to take action against the Warrior Association. What worried him the most was Lin Yue's safety; what kind of trouble had she gotten into?
Chu Sheng clenched his fists, a glint of cold light flashing in his eyes. No matter what scheme Heishan sect had, he needed to uncover it quickly. Especially the origins of those Ability Orbs; they were definitely not simple.
Just then, his phone vibrated. Chu Sheng pulled it out to see a message from an unfamiliar number:
"Do you want to know the truth? Meet at the usual place tomorrow noon."
At the end of the message was a symbol of Heishan sect.
