Chu Sheng stared at his phone screen, his brows knitted tightly together. The message from Heishan sect arrived unexpectedly, like a cat's eerie cry in the dead of night, sending chills down his spine.
But he had no time to ponder these thoughts; an ominous premonition surged within him like a tidal wave, leaving him breathless. He quickly dialed Lin Yue's number, his fingertips trembling slightly with anxiety.
The phone rang several times, but no one answered.
"Damn it!" Chu Sheng felt a sinking sensation in his heart and cursed under his breath.
He immediately activated his "Truth" Ability, and the world before him became transparent as if a thin veil had been lifted. The outlines of buildings blurred while their internal structures became clear.
His gaze pierced through layers of obstacles, like an X-ray, heading straight for Lin Yue's usual route home.
This was bad! In a dimly lit narrow alley, he witnessed a terrifying scene.
Lin Yue was surrounded by several men in black, struggling like a butterfly caught in a spider's web, unable to break free.
One of them, wearing a grotesque mask, was the same person who had appeared in the warehouse earlier.
With his "Rapid" Ability fully unleashed, Chu Sheng transformed into a streak of black lightning and raced toward the dark alley. The wind howled around him as the scenery blurred past; his speed was astonishing, as if he were teleporting. But before he could reach them, the men in black had already vanished into the night with Lin Yue, leaving behind an empty alley and an unsettling silence.
"Damn it!" Chu Sheng slammed his fist against the wall, causing bricks to shatter and blood to seep from his knuckles. Yet he felt no pain—only endless frustration and self-reproach. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. This was not the time to lose his temper; he needed to think of a way to save her, even if it meant walking through fire and brimstone.
At that moment, the Merit Book in his mind vibrated slightly, and a line of golden text appeared like a beacon of light in the darkness, illuminating his path:
[Discovered Good Deed: Rescue the Innocent Captured by Evil Forces]
[Task Reward: Merit Points ×1000]
Chu Sheng couldn't afford to focus on the reward; saving Lin Yue was paramount. He immediately activated his " dream control " Ability, allowing his consciousness to transform into a wisp of green smoke that followed the faint trace left by the kidnappers. This was a unique skill he had honed during his time as an assassin; no matter how cunning or adept at hiding their presence they were, they could not escape his keen tracking abilities.
The aura extended to an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city, a place that exuded a chilling and grotesque stench of decay. Chu Sheng retracted his ability, lurking in the shadows like a leopard, carefully observing his surroundings. Outside the factory stood several men in black, vigilantly patrolling with gleaming weapons in hand, clearly not friendly.
The "Truth" ability activated once more, allowing Chu Sheng's vision to penetrate the thick walls and reveal the scene inside the factory.
The interior had been transformed into a massive altar, even larger and more sinister than what he had seen in the warehouse. Lin Yue was tightly bound at the center of the altar, resembling a lamb awaiting slaughter. Surrounding her were a dozen men in black, chanting strange incantations in low, eerie voices that sent chills down one's spine.
"Lord Asura, we have located the bloodline," a masked man said respectfully to a tall figure, his tone dripping with flattery.
A towering figure slowly emerged from the shadows; it was Asura, the leader of Heishan sect. He approached Lin Yue and caressed her face with a greedy and malevolent gaze. "Indeed, you possess the purest Heavenly Fate Bloodline. No wonder you can awaken such powerful abilities. It seems I have stumbled upon this treasure without any effort."
"What do you want?" Lin Yue gritted her teeth and glared at Asura, her eyes filled with anger and defiance.
Asura chuckled coldly. "Of course, we intend to use your bloodline's power to unlock the seal of the Evil God. You should feel honored to offer your strength to the great Evil God and become part of history."
Hearing this, Chu Sheng's heart sank. No wonder Heishan sect had been distributing those Ability Orbs; they were collecting power to break the seal of the Evil God. Lin Yue's bloodline was actually the key! The gravity of the situation hit him hard; he had to act quickly to stop them.
Time was of the essence as Chu Sheng swiftly devised a rescue plan.
He exchanged for the "Zhen Yan" ability from his Merit Book, preparing to extract more information—knowing oneself and one's enemy would ensure victory in every battle.
Activating "Rapid," Chu Sheng burst into the factory like a flash of lightning, moving so fast that he was nearly invisible to the naked eye. Before the guards could react, he took them down one by one with ease, as if slicing through vegetables.
"Who goes there?" shouted the masked man as others in black quickly surrounded him, each one looking fierce and menacing.
Chu Sheng smirked coldly and activated "Mighty," his presence surging dramatically as if a deity had descended. His fists fell like rain, each strike packed with immense power capable of knocking down an enemy. Although outnumbered, the men in black crumbled before him like paper.
"Interesting," Asura squinted his eyes, watching Chu Sheng with keen interest. "So you are the one who has been tracking us? Not bad skills you have there; too bad you won't escape today."
Chu Sheng did not respond but suddenly unleashed "Zhen Yan," his voice icy as he demanded, "Tell me what else is needed to break the seal."
Suddenly caught off guard, the Demon was controlled by the Ability and blurted out, "Besides the Heavenly Fate Bloodline, we also need it on the night of the full moon..." Just as he spoke, he bit down on his tongue, the sharp pain forcing him to break free from the Ability's influence, leaving him drenched in cold sweat as he cursed himself for being careless.
"You little brat, you're asking for death!" The Demon roared in fury, a terrifying aura erupting from him like a volcano, suffocating those nearby. At the same time, a shadow flashed by—an assassin from Heishan sect named Black Night, wielding a sharp blade with a cold gaze that resembled a reaper from hell.
Chu Sheng knew he couldn't afford to linger; he had to end this quickly. He charged toward the altar, activating his Ability "Law Follows." The space around him twisted, forming an invisible barrier that blocked the attacks from both the Demon and Black Night.
He scooped up Lin Yue and shattered the formation on the altar.
The entire altar immediately lost control, erupting with powerful energy fluctuations that shook the ground like an earthquake.
"Run!" Chu Sheng shouted as he held Lin Yue tightly, dashing out of the factory amidst the chaos, his figure elusive like a ghost. Behind them came the Demon's furious roar: "After them! Don't let them escape! We must capture them!"
Chu Sheng knew returning to the city would endanger innocent civilians. He sprinted towards the outskirts with Lin Yue while activating "Law Follows" again, distorting space to create illusions that confused their pursuers, making them flail about like headless flies.
"Are you okay?" Chu Sheng asked as they ran, concern evident in his tone.
Lin Yue shook her head. "I'm fine. Thank you for saving me."
"Don't mention it. Right now, our priority is to shake them off," Chu Sheng said gravely. "Your bloodline is very special; they'll definitely come after us again. We need to be fully prepared."
Just then, a shadow suddenly appeared ahead of them, blocking their path. Black Night stood there with a dagger in hand, his gaze cold as a venomous snake. "Hand over the girl and I'll spare your life."
