Chu Sheng followed Lin Yue out of the training ground, still savoring the battle they had just experienced. After breaking through to the Third Rank Ship Realm, he felt much lighter, as if he were walking on air, with a surge of energy coursing through him that seemed endless.
"Chu Sheng, your breakthrough is quite unusual," Lin Yue remarked as they walked, her brows furrowed as if she were hiding something. "Typically, it takes at least six months to accumulate enough strength to move from Second Rank to Third Rank, yet you completed it in just two days and even awakened a new Ability. It's quite strange—did you perhaps consume some kind of miraculous elixir?"
Chu Sheng chuckled and scratched his head, displaying an innocent demeanor. He couldn't really explain it; after all, how could he claim it was due to the Merit Book? Who would believe that? They might even think he was crazy.
As they continued walking, a commotion erupted ahead, sounding like a pot boiling over. The two turned their heads to see the Martial Arts Academy's arena surrounded by a throng of people, bustling with more energy than a busy marketplace.
"What’s going on?" Chu Sheng asked curiously, pondering whether the Martial Arts Academy was always this lively.
Lin Yue frowned and replied, "It's Wang Meng challenging the new students. This guy takes advantage of being a Fourth Rank Ship Realm practitioner to bully those with lower ranks—he's like a tyrant."
A glint of cold light flashed in Chu Sheng's eyes; it reminded him of his childhood when local bullies would prey on the weak. He despised such oppressive behavior and felt his fists clench in response.
"Let’s go take a look," Chu Sheng said with determination in his voice, as if he was ready to take action.
They squeezed through the crowd and finally made their way to the front. In the center of the arena stood a burly man laughing maniacally, his laughter deafening enough to seem like it could lift the roof off. At his feet lay a battered student, motionless like a dead dog.
"With this little strength, you dare challenge me?" Wang Meng looked down at the student with disdain in his voice. "A Third Rank Ship Realm in front of me is nothing but a joke! It's like lighting a lamp in a toilet—asking for death!"
A chorus of sighs erupted from the crowd, filled with helplessness and resignation. Some wanted to help the fallen student but were too afraid of Wang Meng's strength; they could only shrink back like quails.
"This Wang Meng," Lin Yue explained quietly, her tone laced with disgust, "is a prominent figure at the Martial Arts Academy. He broke through to Fourth Rank Ship Realm at just twenty years old and indeed possesses considerable strength. However, he's incredibly arrogant and dismissive of others; he flaunts his abilities everywhere and bullies those weaker than him."
Chu Sheng sneered softly. "Is that so? Then I suppose I should have a word with him. I want to see just how capable he really is."
“Wait!” Lin Yue tried to stop Chu Sheng, but it was too late. Like a gust of wind, Chu Sheng had already jumped into the arena, standing before Wang Meng like a mountain, blocking his line of sight.
“I’m here to fight you,” Chu Sheng said calmly, his tone steady yet imbued with an undeniable resolve.
The crowd erupted in a frenzy, like boiling water suddenly bursting from a pot. Everyone recognized Chu Sheng. Although he had just broken through to Third Rank, his performance on the training field had spread quickly, and everyone knew that this young man was formidable.
Wang Meng sized up Chu Sheng from head to toe, as if inspecting a lamb ready for slaughter. He sneered, “You? A mere newly promoted Third Rank? You think you’re worthy to spar with me? You should take a good look at yourself; you’re overestimating your abilities!”
Chu Sheng remained silent, quietly releasing his aura. A powerful presence instantly enveloped the entire arena, pressing down on everyone and making it hard for them to breathe.
Wang Meng furrowed his brow. He sensed that Chu Sheng’s aura was unusual; it gave him an inexplicable feeling of pressure that made him uneasy, as if he were being targeted by a venomous snake.
“Interesting,” Wang Meng licked his lips, excitement flickering in his eyes. “Let me see what you can do! I hope you won’t disappoint me; otherwise, I’ll make you regret ever coming into this world!”
Before he finished speaking, Wang Meng launched his attack. His speed was lightning-fast as he threw a punch at Chu Sheng’s face, the wind from his fist howling with immense force, as if intending to crush Chu Sheng’s skull.
However, just as the fist was about to connect, Chu Sheng vanished like a wisp of smoke, disappearing without a trace.
“What?” Wang Meng exclaimed in shock, staring wide-eyed as if he had seen a ghost.
“Right here.”
A calm voice came from behind him, like the whisper of death, sending chills down Wang Meng’s spine.
Wang Meng suddenly turned around, only to see a mass of flames rushing towards him, like a fire dragon, baring its fangs and claws, charging at him with fierce momentum.
"Boom!"
With a loud explosion, the flames erupted, lighting up the entire arena. In a panic, Wang Meng raised his defenses, but he was still scorched by the sudden blaze, his skin blackened and emitting the scent of roasted meat. He staggered back several steps, an expression of disbelief on his face, as if he had seen a ghost.
"Fire Control Ability? When did you..."
Chu Sheng did not give him the chance to finish. With a flash of movement, he closed the distance, resembling a cheetah with astonishing speed. His fists and feet struck with ferocity; each blow carried a whistling wind, sharp as blades, mercilessly hacking at Wang Meng.
Though Wang Meng was at a higher level, he found himself forced into passive defense against Chu Sheng's bizarre speed and relentless assault, retreating step by step like a beast trapped in a cage, powerless to fight back.
"Damn it!" Wang Meng roared like an injured animal, unleashing the pressure of his Fourth Rank Ship Realm. A powerful aura descended upon Chu Sheng like an imposing mountain.
The immense pressure enveloped the entire venue. Some weaker students even collapsed to their knees, their faces pale and trembling as if awaiting judgment day.
At that moment, a student was swept away by the shockwave and was about to crash into a stone pillar—an outcome that would be disastrous.
Chu Sheng reacted swiftly, darting to the student's side and shielding him behind him like an unyielding wall, blocking all danger.
"Ding!"
The Merit Book emitted a light sound, akin to a clear bell ringing—a melodious and pleasant tone. Chu Sheng felt an explosive surge of power within him, as if a warm current flowed through his body, igniting him with strength.
"It's over."
Chu Sheng's voice was soft, yet it resonated like thunder in everyone's ears.
In the next moment, his figure left a fleeting shadow in the air, moving so quickly that it was nearly indistinguishable to the naked eye. Wang Meng barely had time to react before he felt a sharp pain in his chest, as if struck by a massive hammer. He flew backward like a kite with a severed string, crashing heavily to the ground, landing in a heap like a broken doll.
"Bang!"
Wang Meng hit the ground hard and struggled a few times but couldn't get back up, resembling a lifeless dog, gasping for breath. He looked at Chu Sheng in disbelief, his eyes filled with shock and fear. "How... how could you be so strong?"
Chu Sheng did not respond; he simply gazed at him calmly, his eyes devoid of any emotion, like a bottomless lake.
The arena fell into complete silence, the sound of a pin dropping could be heard. Everyone was stunned into speechlessness by this scene, as if they had been frozen in place. A newly promoted Third Rank had effortlessly defeated a Fourth Rank expert! It was nothing short of a miracle!
"Chu Sheng! Chu Sheng!" Someone suddenly shouted, igniting the crowd like a spark to gunpowder. The entire arena erupted into cheers, the roar deafening enough to threaten to lift the roof off.
At that moment, an old man suddenly appeared in the arena, as if descending from the heavens, elusive and mysterious.
"Interesting," the old man said as he looked at Chu Sheng, a glimmer of intrigue flashing in his eyes as if he had discovered something precious. "Young man, your strength is impressive. I wonder... which family do you belong to?"
Chu Sheng's heart sank. He realized that his identity might soon be exposed.
