Returning to her courtyard, Shen Qingyi heard the notification sound of the System echoing in her mind.
"Ding! Task updated: Win your father's trust within three days and expose the Fake Daughter's scheme. Task completion reward: Insight Eye (ability to see through others' disguises)."
She sat before the vanity, staring into the bronze mirror at her reflection, a glint of determination flashing in her eyes.
"Shen Qingwan, this time, I will not let you succeed."
She summoned her personal maid, Xiao Cui, and whispered, "Xiao Cui, find out what Shen Qingwan has been up to lately, especially regarding the people around her."
Xiao Cui nodded and hurried off.
Shen Qingyi began to contemplate how to win her father's trust.
Her father valued family interests and adherence to etiquette above all else, while Shen Qingwan excelled at feigning gentleness.
"Since she enjoys acting, I will play along with her," Shen Qingyi smirked slightly, already formulating a plan in her mind.
Meanwhile, Shen Qingwan sat restlessly in her own courtyard.
Ever since binding with the Most Hated System, she noticed that the people around her had begun to treat her coldly.
Even Madam Shen, who usually doted on her, seemed less concerned than before.
"What on earth is happening?" Shen Qingwan bit her nails, anxiety swirling within her.
Her maid, Chun Tao, brought in a bowl of bird's nest porridge and cautiously said, "Miss, you didn't sleep well last night. Please have some porridge."
Shen Qingwan waved her hand impatiently. "Put it down; I have no appetite."
Chun Tao hesitated for a moment before softly saying, "Miss, I just heard that the eldest young lady prepared ginseng soup for Master. He seemed quite pleased..."
"What?" Shen Qingwan shot up from her seat, a vicious glint flashing in her eyes. "How dare she steal my spotlight!"
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. "No, I can't let her succeed. In this life, I am the daughter of the Minister's Residence!"
Turning to Chun Tao, she said, "Go and call Mama Li. I have something to instruct her."
In the evening, Shen Qingyi was trimming the branches in the courtyard when she suddenly heard hurried footsteps.
"Miss, it's bad!" Xiao Cui rushed over, panting and pale.
"What happened?" Shen Qingyi set down her scissors, frowning slightly.
Xiao Cui lowered her voice and said, "I just overheard Mama Li and Chun Tao talking. They said... they said you sneaked out of the residence last night, went to a temple outside the city, and met with a strange man!"
Shen Qingyi scoffed coldly. "As expected, she has started to take action."
She patted Xiao Cui's shoulder reassuringly. "Don't worry, I have my ways."
Just then, Madam Shen's maid Qiu Yue hurried over with a serious expression. "Miss, the Madam requests your presence."
Shen Qingyi nodded, straightened her dress, and followed Qiu Yue to the main hall.
Inside the main hall, Madam Shen sat in the main seat with a dark expression.
Shen Qingwan stood beside her, a hint of smugness in her eyes.
"Mother, you called for me?" Shen Qingyi entered the hall and respectfully bowed.
Madam Shen looked at her coldly and questioned, "Qingyi, where were you last night?"
Shen Qingyi feigned surprise. "Mother, I was resting in my room all night and did not go out."
Shen Qingwan immediately interjected, "Sister, don't hide it any longer."
"Someone saw you sneak out of the residence last night, going to the temple outside the city, and meeting with a strange man."
Madam Shen furrowed her brows, her tone stern. "Qingyi, is this true?"
Shen Qingyi lifted her head, her gaze resolute. "Mother, I have never done such a thing. I do not know who is spreading these rumors to tarnish my reputation."
Shen Qingwan feigned innocence as she spoke. "Sister, I am only concerned for your well-being. If this gets out, it will harm the reputation of our Minister's Residence."
Shen Qingyi let out a cold laugh. "Since you care so much about the reputation of the Minister's Residence, why not investigate the truth of the matter first instead of rushing to report to Mother?"
Shen Qingwan was momentarily speechless, her face flushing red.
Madam Shen glanced at the two of them, her tone softening slightly. "Qingyi, I will get to the bottom of this. You may return for now."
Shen Qingyi nodded and turned to leave, casting a cold glance at Shen Qingwan as she thought to herself, "Shen Qingwan, your tricks will not succeed this time."
Back in her courtyard, Shen Qingyi heard the voice of the System once more:
"Ding! Crisis successfully resolved. Task progress increased. Please continue your efforts to expose the Fake Daughter's scheme. Task completion reward: Insight Eye (ability to see through others' disguises)."
Shen Qingyi took a deep breath and silently vowed, "Shen Qingwan, this time I will make sure you lose completely."
