Yan Qing and the others emerged from the dim cave, the vines at the entrance swaying gently as if bidding them farewell.
As they stepped into the woods, each footfall was cautious, as though they were walking on thin ice.
Yan Qing slightly bent his body, his gaze sharp like that of an eagle, missing no corner. His clothes were somewhat tattered from the earlier battle, a few strands of hair clung to his cheek, yet his expression remained focused.
"This way, I've found a mark; other team members must have passed through here," Yan Qing said in a low voice.
Jiang Ming, Jiang Wenyu, and Drui Feng immediately gathered around him like soldiers responding to a command.
Jiang Ming nodded slightly, trust evident in his eyes; Jiang Wenyu gently brushed aside a leaf in front of him; Drui Feng looked eagerly in the direction pointed by Yan Qing.
They followed the direction of the mark, surrounded by trees that stood like silent giants, watching them.
Along the way, they encountered several small enemy attacks.
Jiang Ming's hands danced as Ice Shards shot forth like sharp spears, piercing towards the enemies. The Ice Shards glimmered with cold light under the sun's refraction, each strike accompanied by a whistling sound. Jiang Wenyu manipulated the vines, which moved like agile serpents, swiftly wrapping around the enemies' limbs and trapping them. Drui Feng was like a gust of wind, launching surprise attacks from behind at critical moments; his movements were so fast they left spectators dizzy.
The enemies seemed to have sensed their actions, and the sounds of footsteps and shouts grew louder.
Yan Qing and his companions had to quicken their pace, the fallen leaves crunching beneath their feet.
In a desperate attempt to evade their pursuers, they arrived at the edge of a cliff. The jagged stones at the cliff's edge resembled grimacing faces.
"There’s no way forward," Drui Feng said anxiously, his voice trembling slightly.
He widened his eyes, staring into the bottomless abyss below. Yan Qing quickly surveyed their surroundings, frowning as he searched for something below the cliff.
Finally, he spotted a gentle slope beneath the cliff; perhaps they could descend that way. Just as they prepared to take the risk, enemy footsteps echoed from behind them.
Without hesitation, Jiang Ming waved his hands decisively and began to chant incantations. The moisture in the air rapidly condensed around them.
A mist of ice spread rapidly at the edge of the cliff, temporarily obscuring the enemies' line of sight. "Hurry!" he shouted.
Yan Qing was the first to crawl down the gentle slope, his hands gripping the protruding rocks tightly as he carefully searched for footholds beneath him.
Jiang Wenyu and Drui Feng followed closely behind, with Jiang Wenyu's vines providing protection from behind.
Jiang Ming brought up the rear, his gaze alert as he watched for any movement beyond the icy fog. The moment the mist began to dissipate, Jiang Ming jumped down as well.
They successfully reached the base of the cliff, only to find themselves in an unfamiliar area.
Thick fog enveloped them, resembling a heavy white curtain. Yan Qing took out a compass, but its needle swung wildly as if possessed.
"The compass is malfunctioning," Yan Qing said, frowning.
At that moment, a strange sound echoed around them, like the deep rumble of some large machinery in operation.
The four of them tensed up, their bodies rigid as they moved toward the source of the noise. Their footsteps made faint sounds on the ground, which seemed particularly loud in the silent environment.
As they navigated through the thick fog, they discovered a hidden base nestled within the valley. The area was surrounded by various defensive structures; barbed wire flickered in and out of visibility in the mist, and patrolling enemies moved back and forth.
"This must be their stronghold," Yan Qing whispered, narrowing his eyes slightly.
They decided to hide nearby to observe the situation and look for an opportunity to break through.
Yan Qing crouched behind a large rock, peering through the grass to watch the enemies' movements; Jiang Ming concealed himself behind a tree, blending into its trunk; Jiang Wenyu used vines to camouflage himself, leaving only his eyes visible; Drui Feng squatted behind a bush, barely daring to breathe.
During their observation, Yan Qing spotted the base's Communication Room. After some discussion, they devised a plan.
Jiang Ming and Drui Feng would launch an attack from another direction. With both hands thrust forward, Jiang Ming unleashed Ice Shards that shot toward the enemies like cannonballs, while Drui Feng darted toward them like a bolt of lightning.
Jiang Wenyu quickly erected a green barrier around them using vines, which intertwined in layers.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Yan Qing swiftly moved toward the Communication Room.
His figure flickered in and out of sight in the thick fog, like a ghost. As he approached the Communication Room, Yan Qing encountered a guard.
In a flash, he appeared behind the guard like a wraith, striking swiftly to knock him unconscious before entering the Communication Room. Inside, the equipment flickered with various lights, and the complex wiring was dazzling. For a moment, Yan Qing was unsure how to operate it.
Just then, he heard Jiang Ming's voice calling from outside, indicating they were in trouble. Anxious, Yan Qing took a deep breath to calm himself and began to study the communication equipment.
His fingers danced rapidly over the controls as his eyes fixed on the screen.
After some exploration, Yan Qing finally discovered how to start the equipment.
He attempted to send a distress signal, but interference caused static to fill the screen. Yan Qing continued adjusting the device, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
Finally, the signal was successfully sent; their plea for help had gone out.
However, the enemy had also noticed something amiss in the Communication Room and was rushing toward it. Yan Qing quickly left the room to regroup with Jiang Ming and the others.
The four of them came together again, facing the oncoming tide of enemies. They stood back to back, forming a defensive circle.
Yan Qing's gaze was resolute; Jiang Ming raised his hands slightly, ready to strike at any moment; Jiang Wenyu's vines writhed on the ground; Drui Feng clenched his fists. Just as the enemies were about to reach them, the roar of a helicopter echoed from above.
It turned out that Pacific Base had received their distress signal and dispatched support troops.
Seeing the situation turn against them, the enemies began to flee in all directions.
Yan Qing and his companions finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After a fierce battle, they were all exhausted.
However, they knew that the danger was not yet completely averted.
They decided to follow the Support Troops to thoroughly eliminate the remnants of the Deep Sea Elf Organization on the island.
During the cleanup of the battlefield, Yan Qing accidentally triggered a hidden mechanism.
A secret door slowly opened, emanating a strange glow. Curiously, they stepped inside and discovered some confidential documents regarding the Deep Sea Elf Organization. Yan Qing picked up the papers, which rustled in his hands.
These documents held significant value for their subsequent efforts against the Deep Sea Elf Organization.
Yan Qing and his team handed the files over to the leader of the Support Troops. After completing their mission, they could finally leave the island and return to base for some much-needed rest.
On the way back, Yan Qing gazed out at the vast ocean, feeling a surge of emotions. The sea breeze flowed through the window, brushing against his face.
Just then, a sudden buzzing sound erupted from the helicopter; the pilot grabbed a parachute pack from beside him, opened the cabin door, and leaped out.
Drui Feng exclaimed, "What is this guy doing? Is he crazy?"
Jiang Wenyu frowned and asked, "What's going on? What is he doing?"
Yan Qing also looked at the pilot's sudden action in confusion, while Jiang Ming perked up his ears; he heard the ticking sound of a timed bomb counting down.
