The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight streamed through the window and filled the room, Yan Qing slowly awakened.
He shifted his body and was pleasantly surprised to find that the effects of the Derived Potion had completely worn off. The fish scales on his body had vanished, and he had returned to his familiar human form.
At that moment, Jiang Ming was sprawled at the edge of the bed, soundly asleep. His Silver Gradient fur appeared even softer and fluffier under the sunlight, emanating a faint sheen.
After a while, it seemed that Jiang Ming sensed the changes around him. He slowly raised his paw and transformed back into his original form. Then, he leisurely put on the clothes beside him, each movement exuding a lazy elegance.
Once Yan Qing and Jiang Ming finished washing up and stepped out of the door, they were greeted by a staff member approaching them with a beaming smile.
The staff member excitedly informed them that most of the key figures involved in the Deep Sea Sprite's Pacific Ocean criminal activities had been apprehended. Furthermore, they had successfully passed the A Level examination and were now part of the A-Level Esper Team, granting them the authority to access Ability User records across provinces.
Upon hearing this news, Yan Qing's eyes instantly lit up with curiosity as he asked, "What’s the maximum number of years we can investigate?"
The staff member paused for a moment, seemingly taken aback by Yan Qing's question but quickly replied, "If your permission level is high enough, you can access all Ability User records since the establishment of the Ability Federation. As long as it’s documented, there won’t be any issues."
Yan Qing nodded thoughtfully.
After the staff member turned to leave, Jiang Ming raised an eyebrow at Yan Qing and asked with curiosity, "Why do you want to know that?"
Yan Qing shook his head slightly and replied nonchalantly, "It's nothing; just wanted to ask."
Not long after they exited the corridor, they entered the dining area. This was a temporary cafeteria provided by Pacific Ocean for teams participating in past A-Level Esper assessments.
The food in the cafeteria was quite monotonous—only a few options available—primarily high-calorie and nutrient-dense items aimed at filling them up, while taste took a backseat.
Yan Qing frowned as he looked at the chicken breast, broccoli, carrots, and some salad dressing in his bowl, struggling to find an appetite.
Seeing his expression, Jiang Ming moved his mouth slightly as if empathizing with Yan Qing's predicament.
At that moment, Drui Feng and Jiang Wenyu walked in one after another through the entrance behind them.
Drui Feng casually patted Yan Qing on the shoulder and asked curiously, "Brother Yan, what are you eating? It smells so good."
As he leaned in to take a look at the food in Yan Qing's bowl, he immediately wrinkled his nose and complained, "My goodness, the base is actually serving us this kind of food? Do they think we're ascetics?"
Jiang Ming chuckled and said helplessly, "Just eat it. Having food is already a blessing. We don't even know how many helicopters were damaged during this operation. Without helicopters to transport fresh food, we're stuck with rations. Right now, this food is as fresh as it gets for the next couple of days. Once all the Deep Sea Sprite criminals are captured in a few days, we should be able to leave here."
At some point, Jiang Wenyu had quietly gotten a meal from one of the windows and sat down next to Yan Qing.
The three of them looked up at her simultaneously, but Jiang Wenyu seemed oblivious, calmly savoring her unappetizing meal with an air of elegance, as if she were enjoying a gourmet dish rather than simple food.
After a few coughs from Yan Qing, the three turned their heads back and continued eating. Drui Feng stared at the unappetizing food in his bowl, feeling increasingly disheartened.
He thought back to his usual days filled with sumptuous meals—crispy fried chicken, refreshing cola, and gaming in hand; it was pure bliss.
Now, however, the Pacific Base was under attack from the Deep Sea Sprite, disrupting satellite communications over most of the Pacific Ocean. Even playing a single game had become a challenge for him; it felt like torture.
Drui Feng listlessly poked at the small tomatoes in his bowl with his chopsticks, wearing a mournful expression.
"Brother Yan, when do you think we can go back?"
Yan Qing glanced at him, his eyes steady.
"Don't worry; it should be in the next couple of days. Once Pacific Headquarters finishes capturing the remaining Deep Sea Sprite criminals, we can return."
Jiang Ming also asked curiously, "Why did we have an attack from Deep Sea Sprite during this A Level exam? I thought they only just appeared in Z City?"
Drui Feng chewed on his tomato and asked puzzledly, "When did they show up in Z City? I had no idea."
When Deep Sea Sprite first appeared in Z City, Lin Ran only informed Yan Qing and Jiang Ming about it; Jiang Wenyu and Drui Feng were still unaware of these events.
Yan Qing furrowed his brow slightly and said succinctly, "We executed a temporary mission last night and discovered traces of Deep Sea Sprite criminals in Z City. I didn't expect them to launch an attack during the A-Level Ability User Examination being held in the Pacific Ocean."
Drui Feng chewed thoughtfully, nodding in response. "Hmm."
A hint of confusion flickered in his eyes as he pressed on, "But why are they causing trouble in these two places? What could their purpose be?"
Yan Qing pondered for a moment before slowly replying, "It's still unclear, but their actions surely conceal a deeper conspiracy. We must be cautious and not let our guard down."
Jiang Ming nodded slightly, a glimmer of vigilance in his gaze. "Exactly. These Deep Sea Sprite criminals have always been mysterious, and their intentions are not simple. We need to stay alert before we return to prevent any further actions from them."
Jiang Wenyu, who had been quietly eating, set down her chopsticks gracefully upon hearing their conversation and wiped her mouth. "Regardless of their motives, we must be prepared. This incident serves as a reminder that we cannot relax our vigilance against the Deep Sea Sprite."
Drui Feng grimaced and muttered, "Ugh, I hope we can go back soon. I don't want to stay here for another moment."
Yan Qing patted his shoulder reassuringly. "Just hang in there a little longer. Once the mission is complete, we can return and rest properly."
Drui Feng nodded helplessly and continued to eat the unappetizing food.
At that moment, the loudspeaker above the temporary dining area suddenly blared to life, its sharp sound breaking the tranquility of the restaurant.
A crackling noise filled the air before a serious voice announced, "Attention all candidates, we regret to inform you that you will be staying here for an extended period."
