The call connected, and a sultry voice came through, “Hello, who is this?” 0

My heart sank instantly. “Mengyao, where is Gu Han?” 0

“Oh, him,” Shen Mengyao chuckled lightly, “He’s in the shower and can’t take the call right now. If you have something to say, just tell me, and I’ll pass it on.” 0

“Pass it on?” I scoffed coldly. “No need for that. There are some things I want to hear from him directly.” 0

At that moment, I heard Gu Han’s voice from the bathroom: “Mengyao, towel.” 0

Then came the sound of water, mixed with faint laughter. 0

“Well, you can just wait,” Shen Mengyao said with a hint of provocation before hanging up. 0

Beep beep beep… The busy tone rang harshly in my ears, mocking my foolishness. 0

I hugged myself tightly, trying to draw some warmth, but my body felt colder and colder… 0

I struggled like a drowning person, desperately trying to grasp a lifeline. I dialed Cheng Mu’s number. 0

“Cheng Mu…” My voice was hoarse. “I… I feel terrible…” 0

“Weiwei, what’s wrong? What happened?” Cheng Mu’s voice was filled with concern. 0

Cheng Mu was my attending physician and also my high school classmate. I hadn’t told him about my condition; I just felt immense pain and needed him desperately. 0

Without asking further questions, Cheng Mu said he would come right away. 0

The wait for Cheng Mu felt long and torturous. I curled up on the sofa, feeling like a wounded little beast—helpless and despairing. 0

Soon enough, the doorbell rang. 0

I struggled to get up and open the door. Cheng Mu rushed in anxiously. Upon seeing my pale face, he immediately disregarded everything else and pulled me into his arms. “Weiwei, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me!” 0

I leaned against his shoulder and shook my head. 0

“Cheng Mu, I’m so tired; I’m so scared…” 0

“Don’t be afraid, Weiwei. I will always be here with you.” He helped me sit down on the sofa and gently asked, “Would you like something to drink? Or eat?” 0

I shook my head, my stomach churning violently; I felt like I was about to burst. “Cheng Mu… I…” Before I could finish my sentence, a mouthful of fresh blood surged up. 0

Weakly leaning against Cheng Mu, my consciousness blurred, and I felt as if I might faint at any moment. 0

Cheng Mu held me tightly, frantically using a tissue to wipe the blood from the corner of my mouth, his eyes filled with worry and helplessness. 0

He repeatedly called my name softly, trying to keep me awake. 0

Suddenly, a loud crash echoed as the door was violently flung open. 0

I saw Gu Han standing in the doorway, his face pale and his forehead veined with anger. His eyes glinted like poisoned daggers, fixed intently on me and Cheng Mu. 0

Behind him, my mother-in-law looked ghostly pale, covering her mouth as if she had witnessed something extremely horrifying. 0

And Shen Mengyao was tightly nestled beside Gu Han, her eyes slightly red but unable to hide the smug smile at the corner of her lips. 0

Seeing the blood I coughed up only intensified her satisfaction. 0

“Lin Weiwei!” Gu Han’s voice was low and hoarse, as if it came from the depths of hell. “How dare you… How dare you betray me with another man…” He lunged forward, grabbing Cheng Mu by the collar and violently throwing him aside. 0

Cheng Mu stumbled back, crashing into the coffee table with a dull thud. The vase on the table teetered precariously before shattering on the floor, its fragments scattering like my heart at that moment. 0

Ignoring his pain, Cheng Mu anxiously looked at me, his eyes filled with concern and helplessness. 0

“Gu Han, you’ve misunderstood! Weiwei suddenly coughed up blood; I…” Cheng Mu tried to explain but was interrupted by Gu Han’s furious voice. 0

“Misunderstood? I saw it with my own eyes—what’s there to misunderstand?!” Gu Han shouted, his gaze cutting into me like a knife. “Lin Weiwei, you truly disgust me! How could you betray me…” 0

I lay weakly on the sofa, feeling utterly drained; even breathing had become difficult. 0

I wanted to explain, but it felt like my throat was blocked; no sound would come out. 0

At that moment, Shen Mengyao feigned weakness as she walked over to Gu Han’s side, gently tugging at his sleeve. With a quivering voice tinged with faux tears, she said, “Gu Han, don’t blame Sister Weiwei; she… she might just be confused for a moment…” 0

Shen Mengyao's words seemed to plead for me, but in reality, they only added fuel to the fire. She paused for a moment before continuing, "Actually, Sister Weiwei and Doctor Cheng... they have known each other for a long time. In the past... Sister Weiwei often went to see Doctor Cheng..." 0

"Shen Mengyao, shut up!" Cheng Mu interrupted her angrily. "What nonsense are you spouting?! Weiwei and I are just ordinary friends!" 0

"Ordinary friends? Ordinary friends hug each other? Ordinary friends would..." Shen Mengyao covered her mouth, feigning surprise as she said, "Could it be that the child in Sister Weiwei's belly isn't Gu Han's?" 0

Her words detonated like a bomb in the room. 0

Upon hearing that I was pregnant, my mother-in-law's face turned even paler. She looked at me in disbelief, her eyes filled with disappointment and anger. 0

Gu Han was even more furious at this revelation. 0

He suddenly turned his head and glared at me with eyes full of hatred and disgust. "Lin Weiwei, do you have anything else to say?!" 0

I closed my eyes as tears streamed down my cheeks. I once thought Gu Han was the person who loved me the most in this world, but now I realized he didn't love me at all; he only loved himself. 0

"Gu Han, please let me explain..." I gathered all my strength to clarify everything. 0

"Explain? What is there to explain?!" Gu Han shouted. "What face do you have left to explain?!" He turned abruptly and stormed out, leaving me collapsed on the floor. 0
