On January 1, 1994, the wedding of Mr. Yao Wei and Ms. Li Shengnan was grandly held at the reception hall of the Annan County Guesthouse.
Mao Na was the bridesmaid and arrived early. Hu Ruoyun came along with Mao Jie, Mao Weiguo, and Zhang Xiuzhen. Ouyang Xiaxue had brought her three-month-old baby along with Zhang Qiang in a stroller. Hu Ruoyun didn’t seem too bothered, but Mao Weiguo and his wife couldn’t take their eyes off the child.
A large group of colleagues from Li Shengnan's factory attended, along with friends, subordinates, and partners of her factory director father. Yao Wei's second uncle turned out to be the head of the National Tax Bureau in Jinan City, and he attended alongside Yao Wei's parents and relatives, which meant that officials from the Annan County tax system were also present.
When the wedding officially began, the groom stood on the stage holding flowers, waiting for the bride's arrival. Li Shengnan walked towards him hand in hand with her father. The groom took her hand from her father and presented her with a bouquet before they slowly walked together to the center of the wedding stage. The host then spoke, inviting witness Mao Weiguo to give a speech and offer heartfelt blessings to the newlyweds.
Afterward, the couple expressed their gratitude to their parents and friends, served tea to both sets of parents, and exchanged vows. After they finished speaking, bridesmaid Mao Na presented them with wedding rings, and they exchanged their wedding bands while embracing each other.
Following the ceremony, friends, family members, leaders, and colleagues enjoyed a lavish feast that spanned dozens of tables. This gathering also served as a social event; aside from the newlyweds toasting everyone, the groom's father and uncle represented their relatives in raising a toast to Mao Weiguo, followed by Li Shengnan’s father coming over with a drink.
Hu Ruoyun nudged Mao Jie: “Stop staring; it’s time to eat and drink.”
Once everything concluded, they escorted the newlyweds to their bridal chamber. Because Ouyang Xiaxue’s baby was still very young and couldn’t stay too long amidst all the commotion, she suggested they leave early and invited Mao Na and Hu Ruoyun to visit them afterward.
Mao Na leaned close to Li Shengnan’s ear teasingly: “We’ll head out first; tonight you’ll need to be careful…”
Li Shengnan looked blissful: “Don’t worry; we’ve got plenty of experience… Want me to give you some tips so you don’t end up clueless later?”
Thus, Miss Mao Na was once again bested by Ms. Li Shengnan.
At Ouyang Xiaxue’s home, everyone doted on her chubby little baby as if he were a treasure. In just half a day apart, Ouyang Xiaxue’s mother missed him dearly. As soon as they returned home, she rushed over to take the baby in her arms, cooing sweetly at him.
Mao Na watched enviously.
The two women chatted animatedly about various topics, leaving Hu Ruoyun and Zhang Qiang struggling to have a serious conversation.
Ouyang Xiaxue had completely transformed from a girl into a woman and teasingly asked Mao Na without reservation: “So how does ‘that thing’ feel?”
Mao Na blushed but was caught by Ouyang Xiaxue’s grip as she exaggeratedly exclaimed: “Oh my! Your face is still red; so it hasn’t happened yet! Is your guy not up to par?”
Fuming, Mao Na tossed aside a red envelope: “This is for my godson.”
She then pulled Hu Ruoyun along: “Let’s go; I’m done chatting with this woman!”
On their way back, Mao Na rested her head on Hu Ruoyun’s shoulder as they walked closely together.
Mao Na asked, "What do you think our wedding will be like?"
Hu Ruoyun replied, "I've been inspired! Our wedding has to be even more lively than theirs! We should have two celebrations—one in the county town and one in Lao Gu. One will follow the city customs, and the other will stick to the rural traditions..."
Mao Na looked at him with a face full of longing and anticipation. "Whatever you say, we'll do it that way..."
