Life is like a play, entirely dependent on one's acting skills.
This saying perfectly applies to Ling Xiaoxiao, embodying an undeniable truth.
With her exceptional talent for cross-dressing, she managed to make the illustrious and mighty the Shu Emperor appear utterly foolish.
Shu Zhao Han, in his arrogance, believed that dealing with someone like "him," who had a penchant for men, required the use of women to thoroughly disgust "him." Thus, he deliberately sent a voluptuous middle-aged woman to seduce "him," intending to torment "him" enough before castrating "him."
Shu Zhao Han felt quite pleased and vindicated, even planning to send the severed part swiftly to Yan kingdom. However, he had no intention of letting the person go; keeping "him" around as a eunuch was also acceptable since he valued talent highly.
But who could have known that life is unpredictable? When the old palace maid returned in tears, complaining that Ling Xiaoyao was actually a woman, he spat out his exquisite tribute tea in shock, his eyes wide with disbelief. "How is that possible? He meticulously polished his eyes every day before leaving home; no treacherous minister could escape his discerning gaze. How could he possibly overlook such a flat chest?"
Although he didn't believe anyone would dare lie to him outright, his obsession with the truth compelled him to verify it personally.
Ling Xiaoxiao, despite her reluctance, found that no matter how she claimed to be male, female, or neither, he refused to listen. He simply tossed her a dismissive remark: "I only trust my own eyes."
Ling Xiaoxiao tightened her collar and earnestly advised, "A ruler who doubts his ministers invites execution; a minister who doubts his ruler invites rebellion. As a sovereign, excessive suspicion is detrimental."
"You don't have to undress if you don't want to." Their conversation was going nowhere; he couldn't be bothered with "him" and called out loudly, "Come here, strip 'him'!"
Ling Xiaoxiao was taken aback and looked outside in terror. Sure enough, two burly Knights appeared at the door.
"What will it be? Should they do it or will you?"
Shu Zhao Han crossed his arms, a hint of mocking amusement on his face, waiting for "him" to walk right into the trap.
Ling Xiaoxiao watched as the approaching figure drew nearer, trying to make her brain work overtime, but at that moment, it felt as if her mind had rusted; it was difficult to even get it spinning, let alone flying.
"Your Majesty, should we loosen the belt or just tear it apart? Should we strip completely or leave a few pieces for modesty?" one of the Knights inquired, his voice laced with malicious mockery.
Ling Xiaoxiao was taken aback. Did they really need to be so specific? Unable to hold back, she exclaimed, "Beast!" How could they think they could loosen her belt? "I'll do it myself!"
That was exactly what he had been waiting for; he waved away the two men with a flick of his hand.
Ling Xiaoxiao's face flushed with embarrassment as she muttered, "I don't particularly enjoy killing and silencing people, so you'll have to pay those two Knights off. I still need to see people in the future!"
See people? Who was she planning to meet? He had no intention of letting "him" go. With the evidence in hand, he was eager to confront the the Yan Emperor for an explanation.
"Are you not going to make a move?" He seemed a bit impatient, his eyes revealing a mix of urgency and curiosity.
Ling Xiaoxiao felt torn and distressed, but ultimately succumbed to his imposing presence and began to loosen her belt. If she were to die at that moment, believe that it would be from a racing heartbeat, surging blood, and difficulty breathing.
But that wasn’t enough; Shu Zhao Han’s next words nearly made her faint. He seemed to have an epiphany as he muttered to himself, "No wonder I found it so flat and unremarkable; it's only as big as a bun."
"His whole family are buns! His harem is filled with buns! The entire area within five hundred miles is nothing but vegetarian buns!" Ling Xiaoxiao cursed inwardly.
