She pulled up a video, revealing a massive Cultivation Pod, inside which floated a terrifying creature—humanoid in shape, but covered in scales, with bat-like wings sprouting from its back and eyes resembling slitted snake pupils.
"This is the latest experimental subject," Doctor Lin said. "They call it the Perfect Chimera. It is said to have fused the genes of dozens of organisms, possessing near-perfect adaptability."
Xu Rong felt a chill run down his spine. He knew that this battle had only just begun. The awakened genes within him might be the key to combating Project Chimera.
Standing before the entrance of the Abandoned Hospital, the moonlight stretched his shadow long behind him. This was one of the leads provided by Doctor Lin; it was rumored that secret experiments had been conducted here by the club.
He pushed open the rusted iron gate, the sharp creak echoing painfully in the stillness of the night. Xu Rong's senses were heightened; he could smell the stench of decay in the air and hear faint groans emanating from below.
The beam of his flashlight flickered down the corridor, illuminating bloodstains that had turned dark with age. Xu Rong noticed that these stains formed eerie spirals, as if something had been dragged along the floor.
Suddenly, he heard a rustling sound behind him. In an instant, he turned around, and his flashlight beam caught a shadow darting quickly around a corner. The way it moved was strange—neither human nor resembling any known animal.
Xu Rong chased after it, but the corridor was empty. Just then, he felt a chill at the nape of his neck, as if something was gently blowing on him. He spun around abruptly, directing his flashlight beam toward the ceiling—
A distorted Human Face hung upside down, staring at him with snake-like slitted pupils and a grin that stretched to its ears, revealing rows of sharp teeth.
It let out a chilling cackle before scurrying away like a gecko. Xu Rong's heart raced; he could feel that this creature was no mere illusion.
At that moment, the entire corridor began to twist and warp, as if the walls were melting like wax. He realized this was one of Project Chimera's abilities—creating illusions.
A familiar voice echoed in his ears. It was his wife's voice.
"Don't listen!"
Doctor Lin's warning rang in his mind, "It will use your memories!"
Xu Rong closed his eyes, forcing himself to calm down.
When he opened them again, the corridor had returned to normal, but a trail of slime led toward the basement.
Following the trail, Xu Rong arrived at a heavy iron door.
The door had an electronic lock, but it was already damaged.
As he pushed the door open, a strong smell of blood assaulted him.
The basement was filled with Cultivation Pods, most of which were shattered.
Slime and unknown liquids covered the floor, and various human tissues were scattered about.
Xu Rong noticed that some of the tissues clearly did not belong to humans—scales, feathers, tentacles...
Suddenly, he heard the sound of liquid dripping behind him.

Its humanoid torso was covered in scales, bat-like wings extended from its back, but the most terrifying aspect was its head—featureless except for a circular maw filled with sharp teeth, surrounded by dozens of compound eyes.

The monster let out a piercing shriek, its voice mingling with the screams of countless people.
Xu Rong felt a splitting headache as the scene before him began to distort.
He saw his deceased wife waving at him, saw himself transforming into a monster, saw the entire world collapsing...
