"No!"
Xu Rong bit down on his tongue, using the pain to keep himself awake. He turned and ran, but the monster had already lunged at him. In a split second, the genes within Xu Rong suddenly awakened. His speed surged, narrowly allowing him to dodge the creature's claws. However, the monster's tentacles grazed his arm, leaving a deep wound that exposed bone.
Xu Luode sprinted through the maze-like basement, the sound of the monster crashing against the walls echoing behind him. He could feel the wound healing rapidly, but it also brought an unbearable hunger. Turning a corner, Xu Rong found himself in a larger space. It resembled a slaughterhouse, with countless iron hooks hanging from the ceiling, some still bearing incomplete corpses.
Suddenly, all the corpses opened their eyes simultaneously.
"Stay..." they said in unison, "Become part of us..."
Xu Luode felt his consciousness beginning to blur; he knew this was Project Chimera attempting to seize control of his mind. Just then, he noticed a ventilation duct in the corner of the wall. Summoning his last bit of strength, Xu Luode jumped into the duct. Behind him came the monster's furious roar, but its massive size prevented it from following.
After crawling through the dark tunnel for what felt like an eternity, Xu Luode finally saw a glimmer of light at the exit. However, when he crawled out, he found himself in an even more terrifying place—an enormous underground cave filled with luminescent fungi covering the walls.
In the center of the cave was a pool of blood, floating within it were countless human organs. And at the heart of this blood pool stood a massive tumor, pulsating like a heart. Xu Luode realized that this was the true experimental base of the club.
The Tumor was likely the Mother Body of the Perfect Chimera. Xu Rong stood at the edge of the blood pool, feeling the ground beneath him tremble slightly. The liquid in the pool glowed with an eerie fluorescence, exuding a nauseatingly sweet odor.
He noticed that not only human organs floated within, but also some indescribable Biological Tissue—chunks of flesh with eyes, pulsating networks of blood vessels, and sacs filled with teeth. Suddenly, the Tumor in the center of the blood pool began to throb violently, emitting a dull "thump-thump" sound, like a massive heart.
Xu Rong felt his heartbeat synchronize with the Tumor's rhythm, an indescribable sense of dread washing over him. "Welcome Home..." A voice echoed in Xu Rong's mind, sounding like a chorus of countless people mixed with his wife's voice.
Xu Rong felt his consciousness begin to blur as the scene before him twisted and warped. He saw the organs in the blood pool start to writhe, forming grotesque humanoid shapes. They crawled out of the pool and slowly approached him.
"These are all failures," the voice in his mind said, "but you are different... you are perfect..."
Xu Rong wanted to retreat but found his feet ensnared by Tentacles that had emerged from the ground. Looking down, he realized that the ground had transformed into flesh, covered with pulsating blood vessels.
At that moment, the Tumor suddenly split open, revealing a vast Cavity. Inside floated a translucent humanoid creature, its body adorned with glowing patterns. Xu Rong recognized that face—it was his own.
"This is your true form," the voice in his mind said. "Join us..."
