Xu Rong felt the genes within him stir, something writhing beneath his skin.
He was horrified to discover that his arms were becoming transparent, glowing patterns emerging just like those on the humanoid creatures.
"No!"
Xu Rong bit down on his tongue, using the pain to keep himself awake. He forcefully tore away the tentacles that bound his feet and turned to run.
But the grotesque figures had already surrounded him.
At that moment, Xu Rong's genes erupted within him. His hands sprouted sharp Bone Blades, effortlessly slicing through the monsters that lunged at him. Yet for every one he killed, more crawled out from the blood pool.
Xu Luode realized he had to destroy the Mother Body. He charged toward the Tumor, but the ground suddenly heaved up, forming a massive Flesh Wall. The wall was covered in eyes, all fixated on him.
"Why resist?"
The voice in his mind became piercing. "You were always a part of us..."
Xu Luode felt a splitting headache as countless fragments of memories flooded into his consciousness. He saw the truth behind his wife's death—she hadn't been killed by the club; upon discovering that Xu Luode was a perfect experimental subject, she chose to take her own life to protect him.
"No..."
Xu Luode collapsed to the ground, tears blurring his vision.
But just then, he noticed a glowing Crystal at the base of the Tumor. That was the control core!
Xu Luode gritted his teeth against the pain and stood up, his genes erupting once more. His speed surged to its peak as he dashed past the closing Flesh Wall.
However, just as he was about to reach the Crystal, a massive Tentacle shot out from the Tumor, ensnaring him tightly.
"Poor child," a voice in his mind said, "do you think you can escape your fate?"
Xu Luode felt his consciousness beginning to blur, his body gradually losing control. But just then, he heard his wife's voice: "Xu Rong, wake up!"
This voice was not a hallucination; it came from reality. Xu Luode suddenly opened his eyes to find Doctor Lin standing at the entrance, holding a strange device.
"Catch!"
Doctor Lin threw the device over. The moment Xu Luode caught it, the device emitted a piercing Sonic Wave. The Tentacles that had ensnared him recoiled violently, and the Tumor began to convulse violently.
Seizing the opportunity, Xu Luode used his Bone Blade to slice through the Crystal. The Tumor let out a deafening scream as the entire Underground Cave began to collapse.
"Run!" Doctor Lin shouted.
Xu Luode turned and fled, but after just a few steps, he felt the ground give way beneath him. He fell into a deeper cavern, landing heavily on the ground. When he got back up, he found himself in a larger space—
It resembled a massive Hatching Ground, with countless Meat Cocoons hanging on the walls, their human shapes faintly visible within. In the center of the cave stood an even larger Tumor, ten times bigger than the one before...
Xu Rong stood at the center of the Giant Hatchery, struggling to breathe. The air was thick with a foul stench, mingled with the scent of some sweet chemical substance. The Meat Cocoons on the walls pulsated rhythmically, producing a "thump-thump" sound as if countless hearts were beating simultaneously.
Suddenly, the nearest Meat Cocoon split open. Slime dripped down the wall as a grotesque humanoid creature crawled out from within.
It had the upper body of a human, but its lower half resembled that of a spider, with eight long, slender legs.
"Help... help me..."
The creature emitted a faint human voice, but in the next moment, it let out a piercing scream and lunged at Xu Rong.
