"Cough, cough, cough!"
I choked so hard that tears welled up in my eyes. Turning to look at Gu Yu, who had a serious expression on his face, I slowly reached for the seatbelt buckle.
"Dr. Gu, I... I think I'll just take a taxi back by myself."
"Is that not allowed?"
"No, it's not that... um, in the eyes of a doctor, patients have no gender, right? I... I see doctors as having no gender either, you understand?" I carefully chose my words.
"I understand. No gender," he replied, indicating he got it.
Then his hand moved toward his pants.
"Ah, ah, ah! What are you doing?" I fumbled to find the seatbelt buckle.
I need to get out of this car!
This isn’t a ride to kindergarten!
He raised his right hand and gave me a light smack on the head. "Stop watching so many short dramas!"
He pulled out two Volunteer Work Certificates from his pants pocket.
"A few pet hospitals are collaborating to hold an adoption market for Stray Cats and Stray Dogs. I thought you might be interested."
"Yes! When is it? Do I need to prepare anything?"
...
Fortunately, he didn’t bring up the earlier topic again.

The Adoption Event was a great success. More than half of the little ones found new families. With many Pet Doctor friends around, I asked them to help record some Popular Science Knowledge to post on our account.
The comments and private messages were mostly positive; I hope to turn this into a series.
However, there was one private message that was quite strange.
"User ad97762****: You're so cute, why don't you show your face?"
"User ad97762****: I miss you. Can you send me a video just for me?"
"User ad97762****: Hurry up! I want to see you!"
"User ad97762****: If you don’t send it, I won’t feed it. image.jpg"
The image he sent was of a little tabby cat. There are all kinds of people online; it's best to just ignore them.
But he continued to message me, and the content gradually became more unsettling.
"User ad97762****: video.mp4 Look, it hasn’t eaten today either."
In the video, the little cat was meowing desperately from hunger.
"User ad97762****: I like you in white. Can you wear white and show me?"
...
"User ad97762****: I know you saw my messages. I sent you a gift."
...
I blocked him.
There are too many crazies online.
Later that night, when I returned from taking out the trash, I noticed a package at my door.
I brought it inside, and Wait a minute suddenly stood up and barked furiously at the box, trying to keep me away.
Seeing Wait a minute's reaction made me uneasy as well.
I locked Wait a minute and the other three cats in a room and put on a mask and gloves before opening the box.
Inside was the little cat from the video.
It was no longer alive.
A wave of anger and sadness surged through me, and tears streamed down my face.
"Dr. Gu! Can you come to my house?"
I wanted him to help me deal with the little cat's body. My voice was choked, and I couldn't stop trembling.
"Shishi? What's wrong? I'm coming right away," he said.
"Don't hang up..." I heard him telling another doctor that he needed to take a leave of absence.
"What's going on? Take your time and tell me. I'll be there soon," he reassured me. Hearing his calming tone, I couldn't help but cry out loud.
Through my sobs, I explained the private messages and the package I had received. Not long after I finished speaking, the doorbell rang.
Gu Yu arrived still wearing his white coat, panting from running.
"It's okay, it's okay, I'm here," he said softly as he gently patted my back, his tone both tender and firm.
After looking at the private messages and the package, he said, "We need to call the police first."
I nodded; we couldn't let such a bad person get away.
"This is the sender's information. Although it's fake, it might provide some clues," Gu Yu pointed to the writing on the package.
