Eileen let out a cold laugh. "Danger is just the norm in the Special Zone. If you're afraid of that, then you're not worth my time."
As soon as she finished speaking, she raised her hand, and a small communicator slipped from her palm into Chen Rui's hands. "This is a locator. Once you get the item, open it, and I will find you." With that, Eileen turned and vanished into the darkness, leaving Chen Rui to face the situation alone.
Hiding behind an abandoned vehicle, Chen Rui quietly observed the movements of the members of the Mad Shark Gang. He noticed they were holding a metal box, which was clearly the item Eileen needed. However, the gang members were also armed, their fierce expressions showing they were on high alert.
Chen Rui closed his eyes and took a deep breath, quickly formulating a plan in his mind. He knew that confronting this gang head-on was not wise; he needed to outsmart them.
Taking advantage of one member stepping away from the group for a moment, Chen Rui stealthily circled to the back of the truck, using the abandoned vehicle for cover. He crept closer until he was less than a meter away from the truck, ensuring no one had noticed him. He swiftly pulled out a small knife and approached the guard from behind in the darkness.
Suddenly, the guard seemed to sense something amiss and turned around. Without hesitation, Chen Rui lunged forward, covering his mouth with one hand while slashing at his neck with the knife in the other. The guard didn't even have time to scream before he slowly collapsed.
Next, Chen Rui dragged the body into the shadow of the abandoned vehicle and quietly moved toward the truck. The remaining two members were talking with their backs to him, completely unaware of the impending danger.
At that moment, one member near the truck noticed something was off with his companion and whispered, "Where is he? Why hasn't he come back?"
Chen Rui knew he had to act quickly; otherwise, alerting more people would only put him in greater danger. He sprang into action, thrusting his knife into the nearest member's back with precision. The man struggled for a moment before falling lifelessly to the ground.
The other member sensed danger and hurriedly drew his gun. Chen Rui rolled over to the other side of the truck and quickly turned back to slash at this member's arm. The man let out a cry of pain as his gun fell to the ground.
With quick reflexes, Chen Rui picked up the fallen gun and aimed it coldly at the remaining member's head. "Hand over the box."
The man's face turned pale as cold sweat dripped down his brow, but he still managed to sneer defiantly. "You're dead for messing with us Mad Shark Gang."
Chen Rui's gaze hardened as he pulled the trigger. The bullet sliced through the air, silencing any further threats from him. He picked up the metal box from the ground and confirmed it was what he needed before pressing Eileen's locator.
A few minutes later, a shadow approached swiftly from around the corner. Eileen arrived beside Chen Rui and glanced at the bodies on the ground with a satisfied smile. "You moved faster than I expected."
Chen Rui handed her the box nonchalantly. "This is what you wanted."
Eileen took the box with a smirk. "It seems you're not someone who drags others down. Perhaps we can engage in deeper cooperation moving forward."
"I'll cooperate if you need anything," Chen Rui replied firmly, "as long as it helps me survive in the Special Zone."
Eileen stuffed the box into her backpack and smiled slightly. "Good. We'll meet again, Chen Rui. But don't forget that in the Special Zone, any trust is fleeting. I hope you remember that."
As Chen Rui watched her figure fade into the distance, he pondered her words carefully. He understood that here, he couldn't easily trust anyone—even her. In the days to come, he would need not only strength but also ample patience and vigilance.
In the Special Zone, survival was just the first step. His goal was to find out who was behind everything and uncover the secrets lurking within this perilous place.
